Grand Theft Auto V Announced

Wikipedia article about GTA V, includes things I've never known before, like:

"In September 2009 during an earnings call, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick answered a listener’s question about the next Grand Theft Auto. He replied, "We're not going to announce it, we're not going to announce when we are going to announce it, and we are not going to announce a strategy about announcing it or about when we are going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy."

"In a July 2011 interview with PSM3, Team Bondi co-founder Brendan McNamara was asked if Rockstar was considering MotionScan for the next GTA game, McNamara replied, "Yeah, I think they're looking at it for every game. As much as L.A. Noire is a huge game, Grand Theft Auto is incredibly huge, so you've got all the problems of how big the cast would be and how many lines would you have to record and all that kind of stuff. Obviously we'd like them to, and they're more than welcome to use MotionScan, but if they decide it's not right for that and want to use it for another game, then that's fine too."

It was on the forums ages ago, I think it was on the leak thread back in its day.

Considering what they did for IV's announcement, Rockstar pretty announced this game on there own. no e3, no 30 minute time slot on FX and and a weeks notice instead of a months notice. Rockstar handled themselves really well.

I'm really not fussed about MotionScan.

Me neither, it'd just be some unnecessary thing in the game, taking up disk space.

Holy sh*t, abandoned this place a few weeks back since I've got so much work going on, till a couple of days, then I am greeted with a anounced Next GTA and it's name, GTA V, as well as a countdown to the trailer.

Man I am so happy, just when I was giving up hope on GTA and starting to think R* are concentrating on other games like Max Payne 3 and the ironically mysterious Agent game.

I am also quite surprised they are starting a completely new cannon. I guess only GTA games with an odd-number have multiple-game cannons.

GTA 1 had GTA London 1969 and GTA London 1961.

GTA 2 was a stand-alone game with no other games in the cannon.

GTA 3 had Vice City and San Andreas, as well as semi-cannon games Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

GTA 4 had no other full games in it's cannon - The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony were arguably DLC expansions.

So this game, if my system stands, will have two full games in it's cannon. This will also likely be the finale for this current generation of game consoles too.

I am also extremely excited at the prospect of them starting a whole new cannon of GTA games. I am really hoping there will be big advances in gameplay with this. I think the graphics and physics of GTA 4 were more than sufficient, especially considering how that game pushed this generation of consoles' hardware to the very limit.

Can't wait to finally see the trailer. colgate.gif

You've forgot GTA Chinatown Wars wink.gif

My question is how mad would you be if you found out it's LA and only LA? Not San Andreas. That would mean it would be the third LA game from Rockstar.

Mad isn't the right word. Disappointed perhaps... especially if it was a present-day setting too.

Honestly, I can't see a single reason why Rockstar would create A THIRD game from 2008 (Midnight Club: LA) which would be again situated in LA, but with one exception - name Los Santos and make it "different". Guys, really? Still hoping for LA?

As long as the map was still big, and the gameplay was good I wouldn't mind much.

LA has been done to death, with MC:LA, LA Noire, SA and LA Rush etc. Not just by R*. But, i'm sure for GTA V they would be able to pull it off in their own unique and modern way. So not too bothered I guess. smile.gif

I'm sticking with Vice City in the year 2012 for the predicted setting. Seems to make the most sense. tounge2.gif

Well it fits the rotation.

GTA III (LC)

GTA Vice City

GTA San Andreas

GTA IV (LC)

GTA V (VC)

GTA VI (SA)

GTA VII (LC)

(I consider the stories games to be standalone expansions rather than entries into the main series, so I won't include them.)

That's if they don't decide to go with a completely new location of course. Though I think the V-five logo is a pretty strong indication they won't be going outside of the US.

Maybe they have people hinting to LA on purpose? Maybe those casting calls that mention LA/Hollywood are all just a setup to lure us away from the idea that it will be Vice City?

I mean, it is R*. No one saw this announcement coming. They made it seem like we wouldn't be getting GTA V until the next gen.

Guys seriously all indications point to LA so I would suggest not setting your heart elsewhere only to be disappointed when the trailer finally releases. You may as well psyche yourself up as if it was LA so if it isnt then you can celebrate otherwise.

Aim low and avoid disappoint as I always say. suicidal.gif

Yes Rockstar have done LA on a number of their games recently but Midnight shouldnt really count as thats not open world and it has no guns. tounge2.gif LA Noire was set in the 1940's so I wouldn't mind Rockstar creating a modern day LA at all, its a great opportunity to realize a good city on the current next gen hardware.

Seriously if Rockstar have done this I will literally have to run to the nearest hospital and ask them to re-attach my jaw. mercie_blink.gif

References (to Vice City) in The Ballad of Gay Tony:

When Gay Tony is in danger of losing his two clubs Maisonette 9 and Hercules, he mentions that he should start fresh somewhere else such as Vice City.

Vice City has its name engraved in the USA Cities Wall inside the Rotterdam Tower, starting in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Yusuf Amir complains to Luis Fernando Lopez that he had to take a private jet to Vice City to bang prostitutes for 2 weeks in order to recover from test driving sexy cars.

The exclusive radio station Vice City FM plays music from the 1980s.

Fernando Martinez makes a return from the GTA III Era to DJ for Vice City FM. Another reference and not a continuity nod.

Al Di Napoli lives in Vice City.

During a conversation between Luis Lopez and Al Di Napoli, Al suggests Luis and Gay Tony expand into Vice City. Luis responds by stating Vice City is just a retirement home by now.

When failing the mission Ladies' Night by getting too close to Patrick McReary, a conversation between Luis Lopez and Gay Tony will activate where they will mention that they need to run away to Vice City or Los Santos and that Gay Tony should call him about it.

On the TV show The Men's Room with Bas and Jeremy, a caller named Paula makes a call in to the show it is said that she is calling from Vice City.

Pedestrians may say things like "I should've gone to Vice" if you knock them over.

During the end credits, Patrick McReary is seen leaving Liberty City on a plane from Francis International Airport. It is speculated he went to either Ireland, Australia, Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, or Vice City.

When driving Tony home at the end of Practice Swing Luis will state to Gay Tony; "Listen, Tone. Maybe you should take a holiday. Get down to Vice City. The Caribbean maybe."

There are two reasons they did so much references to Vice City in TBoGT:

a) give people a clue that GTA V will take place in Vice

b) or it's some kind of "goodbye" with Vice City since many people would like to see V in Vice City but developers would like to situate next GTA in different location.

I really don't see it being set in the 70s to be honest with all of you. People want to have a game with the internet and the phone and such like IV had. It'll probably be set either in the near future or the near past.

I really don't get that at all. Those features weren't even good in my opinion - just worthless gimmicks that lost their novelty after 10 minutes. I'd hate to think that they're never going to make another GTA game that's set earlier than 2000 just because of that.

A cellphone or "smartphone" and [email protected] cafe were not gimmicks, that's for sure selling them short! Yes, a made up Internet still image satire was more then I need in the game, but it fleshed out the "world" of GTA

Pretty good.

We ardent GTAF'ers .... We already know the first one, I missed the second, but that hints as well to my prior comments about GTA on Nintendo DS or WII U, it could happen simply because they look at the hardware and throw ideas about on future games, it's pretty standard and typical I would think. Even for Rockstar

Try to live a day or two without saying any other city or country than the one you live in. All I'm saying is that all the references to other cities are there just to add realism in the dialogues. One shouldn't try to find anything hidden secrets from those. There were like atleast twenty different countries mentioned in IV and DLC's in addition to all the city references.

I doubt it there is alot of references to Vice City being a place of old people now such as Roman saying he is sick of his cabs picking up old people at the airport from Vice City or Luis saying Vice City is just a retirement home now.

How exactly does that logo scream San Andreas at all? If anything it screams a fake version of Washington D.C. due to the American money texture/design used on the V and FIVE.

All I gather from the logo is:

- It's taken from a US dollar bill - indicating that the game will be set in the US

- It's possibly tattoo artwork, which fits GTA as a whole, not just one location.

Becuse Grove street in SA had the color Green and the V logo kinda looks like a Tattoo and that was a big part of SA's theme aswell.
