GTA 4 had no other full games in it's cannon - The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony were arguably DLC expansions.

You forgot about GTA Chinatown Wars, it's in the same cannon as GTA IV.

He said that the game was going to be set in italy. I think he is right. The V in the logo is taken almost directly off of an 1899 5 dollar silver certificate. In 1899 there were counterfeit bills galore being smuggled into the USA from Sicily Italy.

Holy sh*t, abandoned this place a few weeks back since I've got so much work going on, till a couple of days, then I am greeted with a anounced Next GTA and it's name, GTA V, as well as a countdown to the trailer.

 

Man I am so happy, just when I was giving up hope on GTA and starting to think R* are concentrating on other games like Max Payne 3 and the ironically mysterious Agent game.

 

I am also quite surprised they are starting a completely new cannon. I guess only GTA games with an odd-number have multiple-game cannons.

 

GTA 1 had GTA London 1969 and GTA London 1961.

GTA 2 was a stand-alone game with no other games in the cannon.

GTA 3 had Vice City and San Andreas, as well as semi-cannon games Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

GTA 4 had no other full games in it's cannon - The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony were arguably DLC expansions.

 

So this game, if my system stands, will have two full games in it's cannon. This will also likely be the finale for this current generation of game consoles too.

 

I am also extremely excited at the prospect of them starting a whole new cannon of GTA games. I am really hoping there will be big advances in gameplay with this. I think the graphics and physics of GTA 4 were more than sufficient, especially considering how that game pushed this generation of consoles' hardware to the very limit.

 

Can't wait to finally see the trailer.

BrightonEarly showed us the way: he had the insight to see that if you drew an outline of Italy on a screenshot of the RDR map, then there's an outline of Italy on a screenshot of the RDR map. I remember he dropped that theory later in exchange for one about the location being Scotland because Rockstar (a games developer with a notable office in Scotland) released a set of wallpapers with the Scottish flags on them.

If the game is set outside the year 2011, in the time machine some how, I'll be the most shocked, EVEN with the Genesis thread being what it was, and speculation about the "V" dollar bill age... I think GTA should, or would, or could, be set in the modern time, which seems most right to me, where the US economy is in shambles, as you know, insane political bickering, it's sooooooo ripe for parody and make us laugh in time of recession/depression

I thought Sony said people have yet to reach the full potential of the PS3

This is true, but only Naughty Dog takes advantage of this with the Uncharted franchise. R* couldn't max out the PS3 hardware with the next GTA because it would make the 360 look bad and R* wouldn't exactly be in Microsoft's good books. The 360 is where they get most of their money from after all.

But according to a mail from Rockstar Games Germany (an admin on a german gta-fanpage received this) it will be released on 18:00.. i am confused

edit: Probably the time was before the time change on 30th October.. one hour earlier. Would make sense then.

This is true, but only Naughty Dog takes advantage of this with the Uncharted franchise. R* couldn't max out the PS3 hardware with the next GTA because it would make the 360 look bad and R* wouldn't exactly be in Microsoft's good books. The 360 is where they get most of their money from after all.

The Cell processor CPU design is unlike traditional multi-core, using SPE segments IIRC, something like that, their mandate for software exploit is different from other machines out there, be it Xbox, Nintendo Wii or PC, so Naughty Dog, as a developer tied closely with Sony, was working the most on using Cell and making it shine in ways not thought possible, and they actually PROVED it possible as well.

 

A company like Rockstar are not closely tied to Sony in that way, so you can't expect the same help that ND got working with Playstation 3, at the PS3 video E3 some years back, Sam Houser was on camera for a segment talking about the impact PS3 and Cell would have, most of you saw that video off YouTube, it was only part of a list of on-screen interviews for PS3's launch at E3 as I recall.

 

Sam was pretty confident that "With Cell, With Playstation 3, we're confident we can start unlocking the dreams we've had in our head, for ever how long", paraphrasing bits of it, evidenced below\/ .

That prospect has been AGENT, actually, so if Agent shows up on Xbox, they are looking even further down the road for something fully using CELL sad to say

I really don't get that at all. Those features weren't even good in my opinion - just worthless gimmicks that lost their novelty after 10 minutes. I'd hate to think that they're never going to make another GTA game that's set earlier than 2000 just because of that.
