To Cheat or not to cheat?

I'm new to gaming, (only 6 months), and currently about 18% of the way into GTA4. I have read quite a bit about cheats. I would like some views please.

I realise that using some cheats will prevent all the achievements, (xbox 360), but I'm not really bothered about that. I'm more interested in getting into the game.

Some missions I find very difficult, (probablly due to age tounge.gif ), and I think I would be more enthusiastic if I could find a way of making some missions a little easier.

I would love to hear the views of some experienced gamers please.

Trust me, it's NOT worth it.

Actually, GTA is not that hard. Always use a SMG or better and always have full armor and health and if you die..

My advice: get a trainer when you finish the plotline and all of the fun parts.

It's not so hard to beat the story without cheats, and It's easy to beat it in less than 30 game hours(Trophy <3)

No cheats, I just completed the main story (64% a few pigeons, jumps, friends, assassinations in there) and 55 hours playing time. Now the fun starts, completing the pigeons, jumps, friends, etc.

There are no cheats that I found worth even considering to complete the story or even now.

San Andreas had several really cool cheats like the super jump, the super punch, the all cars have nos codes which I really liked, I'd use those maybe once all achievements were complete unless I was able to undo the cheat like San Andreas also.

I 1st played the game without cheats, got to about 87% and then lost my save game file on a psn update. After that I cheated through about 40% of the game. Then I got a broadband connection and havent played singleplayer since. That was about 3 years ago. If the game was new I'd see where there was a tough decision to cheat or not ,but not now. Cheat away.

i don't see anything wrong with cheats why don't u be leave its worth it guys

Because it can block some achievements and there are not any really good cheats in gta iv. Just the standard weapons, health whatever which is all easy to obtain without cheats. There just aren't the cool cheats like San Andreas had, like super punch, super jump, all cars have NOS. Those are cool cheats worth using but just got power up, money up, whatever is not even a cheat really.

I mean it's a cheat, but it's not a good "code".

There is more to using codes in gta 4 than staying alive to complete missions.

Console versions had poor graphics and various weather conditions just made the image worse. The weather code offered some help but was often temporary and needed messing around with frequently. The weather code does not disable trophies in the three gta4 games.

Other codes i used often were remove wanted level and spawning motorcycles. Removing wanted levels allowed me to expedite mission starts by reducing police chases and to provide motorcycles that were scarce on the streets to steal.

Overall i did not use or need to use codes to complete missions. I did keep a helicopter parked in one of my parking spaces to have for mission play when otherwise helicopters would not be available.

I usually have 2 save files. One where I have cheated and the other where I have not.

Generally though I dont cheat but thats because the buzz of killing peds with a range of weapons wore off ages ago.

I also do the different save files. I want at least one play without using cheats. On my ps3 versions of gta 4 ,tlad,& tbogt using the weather code seems not to be counted as cheating.

Playing gta 4 without using a few of the codes is just annoying. Too much driving just to get armor and health, low ammo limits like only 8 rpg's, bad weather effects.not enough motorcycles or comets to steal, and unwanted wanted stars obtained while just driving to start a mission.

Mission tips: keep below 3 stars, remember where the tunnels are, use a helicopter by parking one out of a mission in a car save location, and play in daylight when possible. Car and motorcycle handling in gta 4 is what it is. Many find it is like driving on steets that are always wet or ice covered.

Shadowfennekin

I cheated a lot in this(Never cheated once in V). It was a pain trying to shoot down the biker with a pistol so I cheated to obtain better drive by guns,

And used the health armor code alot

if you wanna do it legit, don't use the cheats. I'm not sure if a trainer will "blind" your stats.

It's not that hard tho, you can still find on youtube some videos about important shortcuts and that stuff.

I first started using the cheats this last week, when I started over. So, I have a question, Does the "Advanced Weapons" cheat f*ck up the way you can throw a grenade?

Never use cheats. It is not worth

How are cheats not worth it? They add tons of hours of fun.

Is that even a question? No.

Don't use cheats, especially when you are new to the game, experience it for what it is, then later when you get into it, then use cheats if you want.

Alright, firstly, not all achievements get disabled. It depends on which cheat is used. Secondly, if you don't care about achievements, cheat all you want. But for those of you who want achievements, just use the vehicle cheats. The only vehicle cheat that disables achievements in the normal GTA IV is the FBI Buffalo.

I dont mind a cheat here and there, I tend to go for full playthrough first, or as others have pointed I normally run multiple saves, a clean playthrough and cheats playthrough.
