IDK, I never had problems with crashing (but maybe that's just because I'm so used to my PSP's little joystick-nub-thing), not to say that driving isn't somewhat difficult with the perspective.

The birdseye view was perfect for the Nintendo DS. I never had any problem with it at all!

when you are used to gta 1&2(got both at release date biggrin.gif) it doesn't bother you

far worse are the stupid minigames(cracking cars, filling molotovs...)

No no no no.

The charm of Chinatown Wars is in the topdown view, finally brought back from GTA 1&2. It's what makes the game fun.

If I had to play this in 3D with the same kind of coloring and shading it would look horrible. Not to mention the cutscenes being completely out of place.

Nooooo, the whole point of it is to give it a unique feel, and thats why I love it inlove.gif

The camera never seemed zoomed out enough for me. Some cars were ungodly fast and I would ram into everything. But the bigger problem is I almost always got a wanted star because there was a cop just off screen that I couldn't see. If it was a typical 3D street view it would be easy to do a quick 360 and see if any cops are around, but when you're looking straight down they get to hide easier.

I don't understand why not being able to see far into the distance is a problem. All the cars can quickly react to your controls so that you can avoid crashes. The damage system within the game is extremely lenient. Sideswiping police cars doesn't get you wanted. There's an option to have your cars automatically align to the roads. All that and still not satisfied?

My complaint: racing isn't exactly easy when you have to have lightning-fast reactions to get around random traffic. Especially in that one race with the Formula R's. At least in the PSP version the camera could have been pointed forwards more!

Riding a motorcycle in CTW is near impossible. You will crash it often.

For the PSP version, maybe. For the DS version, nope. The overhead rotatable view makes it kind of unique. It's sort of like a combination of both the bird's eye view and third-person view. I agree with the motorcycles though. They're a pain to drive.

I was gutted when it was a birdseye view. I spent over £30 on it really excited as I didn't have many games on the ds I would of loved it to be like normal 3rd person gta but it wasn't however the one good thing about the game was bringing in the drug dealing I hope they add it to V

They made birdseye cam because the DS probably won't handle 3rd person

And it also give CTW a unique feel and a feel of the earlier top-down games.

I like how simplistic the game was with the top-down view, it felt like a handheld game.

If it was 3rd-person view like the other GTAs the graphics would make it look like a game from the early 90s, and then people'd probably complain about that instead.

@ToniForelli - I find that it's easiest to tap the gas/acceleration button continuously rather than hold it down, actually it works best for most cars in CTW.

I'd love if it was in 3rd person perspective, but I guess that would be too heavy for my iPhone 3G.

Rashon.

If Chinatown Wars were remade to be in third-person mode and actually have live-action cutscenes, my opinion of the game would skyrocket. Unfortunately, it's likely not going to happen.

Birds eye camera is why this game wasn't successful. If it was 3rd person, the game would of sold a LOT more. The Nintendo DS could handle it. They couldn't have a 3rd person mode on the PSP and iOS port because it would shy away from the original game. People who like games with sh*tty graphics would bitch. If the game was just PSP and iOS, it may of been 3rd person.

I think this was a rush job GTA well they were making TLAD and TBoGT (and probably GTA V too). Sad thing is, the game could of been good if they simply made it a 3rd person view, and maybe actually had animated cut scenes. It had all the good stuff from the III era GTA's that GTA IV was missing (except aircraft which action replay fixes that).

Also back in the late 90's when GTA started, (if I was the age I'm at now, then) I'd rather play Driver than GTA 1 and GTA 2.

I did think the view looked a bit crappy upon first sight in magazine previews, but it actually works well in-game. Makes it feel vastly different from more recent games in the series.

I'm not a fan of the 'top-down' view, but it actually does fit CTW perfectly. After all, CTW's view is much better than GTA 1/2's view. I couldn't really vision CTW in 3D view. It's completely fine how it is.

I think its great, it don't make the game unplayable like some top down games smile.gif
