trip
I know that not too many people still use Yahoo.com as their start page. I still do, because I like the layout for news and stuff.  You know that area that has the quick news headlines?  On my work computer, that changed from a tab view(like above shot) to a cascaded view(no pic because I'm not at work), and it is driving me nuts. For the life of me I can't figure out how it happened or how to change it back. I've done everything - cleared cache and all that stuff, tried logging into myyahoo to see if there were any general settings there...all that kind of stuff.  Any suggestions? Slamman
Did you pass the issue along to Yahoo!? Or their boards, I'd think they have a community. AOL used to, AOL Homepage and all that, but I still use my AOL mail, I like it and why fix what ain't broke. They have their splash page come up when initialized with familiar news story links. Â I only really used Yahoo IM to commune with Mike a while back and tried to get others on there, but it's really dormant. I'd see if they changed formats on ya, is all

trip
Are you using different browsers at work compared to at home? No. Chrome all around. When I tried it in IE at work it was fine.  I'm just not wanting to delete and reinstall my chrome at work, but that is pretty much my last resort. Wolf68k
Ok so Chrome at work and it's messed up but IE it's fine. There's your problem. I don't know if Chrome is like Firefox in that you get a profile folder separate from the program folder that stores your personal settings or not. Let me assume for a minute that it does. Go to where ever that folder is and rename it. Then start Chrome up again, it should create a new profile folder. Now go to Yahoo and see if that fixed the problem. If it does then there is something in your profile folder that causing it. It could be a setting within Chrome itself or an add-on and one it's settings. Â Â /edit Quick Google search and I found the answer to the profile folder Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\ Windows Vista and Windows 7: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\ Look for a folder called "Default" and rename that folder. If that doesn't work, try one more thing which is to rename the Chrome folder and try again. Edited September 10, 2011 by Wolf68k
trip
Sweet. Thanks for taking the time to do something I should have searched on my own, Wolf . I guess I can use the excuse that I have been super busy at work. I'm at work now so back to watching people getting hit in the nuts. Wolf68k
Well now wait. If you renamed the folder then you didn't lose anything Your bookmarks and settings should still be in that old, renamed folder. So here is what you do.... Close Chrome....always first close the browser for this type of thing Rename the new profile folder Rename the old folder back to normal Run Chrome Export your bookmarks. For the settings I wouldn't try exporting them as much as writing them down, there might be something in settings that causing it and I still think it's an extension Close Chrome Rename the old folder and reset the name of the new folder again Run Chrome and import your bookmarks and manually reapply your settings. Â Now another suggest is when you go back to the old folder and run Chrome again, go into where ever the list of add-ons are and seeing you can disable or worse case uninstall the add-ons. In Firefox you can disable an add on, so it's still installed just not functional any more. This makes is very nice and easy to narrow down conflicts like this. So look at your add-ons and take a few guesses what might be causing the problem. Add-ons like an AdBlocker can do this but anything that can have any affect on how the web pages are displayed. Things that affect the browser itself and how it looks and functions are less likely to be the cause but don't completely rule them out either. Suction Testicle Man
If deleting the Chrome\User Data folder works it sounds as if the option is caused by a cookie (not deleted by just clearing the cache). You could try deleting any yahoo.com cookies using the Chrome Preferences (this will also log you out of Yahoo), then refresh. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.

You could try deleting any yahoo.com cookies using the Chrome Preferences (this will also log you out of Yahoo), then refresh. I tried that a bunch of times. I did everything possible from within chrome.  Honest, my bookmarks aren't that vital to me - I'll just have to re-bookmark a few sites.  I am really curious as to what caused it to change in the first place. It isn't like there is an option on yahoo.com to cascade that area, and it isn't like I go clicking around random things. Just one day that area was cascaded when I opened my browser. Like I said, most likely it's an add-on that cause it.  For some reason for on Firefox if NoScript is enabled and I go to VerizonWireless the login is missing even if I have NoScript set to not block anything. Not that I find that I need NoScript running most of the time. But having NoScript disabled within itself but active in Firefox it causes problems. Go figure.
