Magic_Al
PEOPLE! The 10th Anniversary, and this topic, is about remembering the 3,000 lives lost on 9/11, not the event itself. So go take your debates on conspiracy theories, comparisons against african deaths and corruption to D&D, as this topic is for remembering the lives lost that day. This notion -- that 9/11 Day was nothing more than an apolitical grieving ceremony, akin to a private funeral -- is a common one. But it's completely wrong, and quite destructive to accept. Says it better than I can
Icarus
in other words, was this was the first time the US was attacked on its own soil? Or were there any attacks on american soil Pre-9/11? Pearl Harbor - December 7, 1941. At the time, Pearl Harbor wasnt yet considered American Territory. Yeah, I realized after-the-fact that was the case. It's weird, I knew Hawaii joined the Union in 1959, but that didn't occur to me when I was posting that. I guess another example that was post-1993 WTC bombing and pre-9/11 was the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. [EDIT] Granted, the OKC bombing wasn't done by a foreigner, so I guess it's not an example of a foreigner committing acts of terrorism against the US. Saggy
You people just don't get it do you? You have all year to talk about how over-blown, over-politicized, or over-whatever you think 9/11 has become. Why do you want to come in and talk about it on the day that there are people simply trying to reflect on what happened, and how the world has been? Sure, pundits and journalists and everyone's mother wants to make a political message about 9/11, but what about the people that just want to sit and remember what happened? f*ck them I guess? I mean, I just don't f*cking understand it... Do you people really think anyone here hasn't heard your opinions on it before? I mean, do you think it's really the first or last time anyone in this thread will hear this type of crap? "Oh, think of the kids in Africa, oh think of how many more people the U.S. kills, oh think about how much corruption and scandal has been perpetrated and excused with 9/11" I mean, what is the point of this barrage? You're not f*cking "insightful" for having these thoughts, you're no more enlightened or well-inform or any less apathetic than anyone else, you're just a f*cking douche for not accepting just one f*cking day to sit back and say, "Yep, it was terrible," and go along with it. Is that so f*cking hard to do? No, you guys have to get up on your soap box and spout some sh*t as if anyone is interested in hearing it or that hasn't already heard it all before. It's a deliberate move to grab people's attention and force the issue on them here and now, and for those of you doing it you're just tactless assholes and that's all there is to it. You know, the type of people that will spare anyone's feelings just in order to inflate their own ego and basically hear themselves talk. That's you Do you know how much I really care about 9/11? Very little. I get tired of hearing about it too. You know what I do? I turn my f*cking TV off, I change the radio station, go to a different website, ignore it. I don't decide to go piss on everyone that does care deeply about it by going around pulling this type of crap. There's a time and a place for being "questioning" or for going against the grain, and there's a time to just shut the f*ck up and be respectful of other people. I mean, I admit, in my own home with my friends I've had the, "Jeez, this sure gets old," feeling, and I've gone over the same points you people are bringing up--the huge discrepancies with loss of life on that day and with the rest of the world or even caused by the U.S. etc. etc. The fact is that you just shouldn't bring that crap up in what is basically a public venue aimed at the people who want to reflect on it in a sobering way. Maybe we need a, "Are you sick of 9/11?" topic for all the assholes that just don't know when to shut the hell up and let something go so they don't come in and sh*t in this one. I despise people that just can't accept not saying what they want to say, like they somehow feel it's so important and such a huge revelation. Pompous, egotistical, self-righteous douche bags. I mean, let's put it this way... Let's say some guy you know named Jim died, and Jim is a real f*cking asshole. Nobody knows you don't really like Jim, and you get invited to his funeral. Are you going to get up and say, "You know, I didn't like Jim, I'm just hear because I was invited. I actually thought he was a f*cking asshole." No, you wouldn't... It might be totally true, but you wouldn't do that out of common courtesy, so why should it be different for this? That guy talks about it being a big apolitical national funeral and then argues, "Oh, but it's not apolitical, blah blah," but that's because no one will just shut the f*ck up and let the people that want to reflect on it in an apolitical do so, and no one will just ignore the pricks that are turning it into a political thing. So what you have is people that simply don't give a f*ck whether someone is actually emotionally touched by 9/11 that just have that insatiable urge to spout off at the mouth. Well, here's a little secret for those people: You're not better than the politicians getting up on their soap boxes and going on with their little political agenda. The only difference is they're doing it for votes, what the f*ck are you doing it for? QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration!
sivispacem
The above, really. Plus, all the discussion of casualty figures, as I've said before, completely misses the point. Chernobyl was a global tragedy, even though it's immediate aftermath killed less than 50 people. 9/11 has basically changed the world more fundamentally than any incident since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It's not so much about how many died as the impact that it has made on the way the world is today. BabeRuth
Wow, some of you are coming off like real assholes. I'm trying not to be a A-hole at least I show love/tribute to 9/11 by sending out my "sorrys to people" & I wear a Show that says "9/11 never forget" or I wear the T-Shirt that says "I Love NY" & I also wear a cap/hat too. His comment wasn't aimed at you. oh well thats good I hope it wasn't how do you know if it wasn't aimed at me. Read the last page and you will understand where that assumption came from. He may have included you in it, but I highly doubt it since you didn't really say anything that could be classed as 'asshole-ish'. exactly, I respect 9/11 I feel sorry to the people that lost their relatives . Sorry, I should have just said, "Wow, GTAvanja, you're coming off like a real asshole" it's all good man I know what you mean now .

Actually, I'd prefer it if you kept that crap out of D&D. If you want to be a knee-jerk sensationalist, completely taking everything out of perspective and making idiotic claims and comparisons that totally and utterly miss the point, go and do it on the MSN News forums with all the other knuckle-draggers and low-lifes. @Street Mix- don't quote people out of context. It makes you sound like an idiot. SagaciousKJB's point was that when he or anyone else is fed up of hearing it, it's not hard to take oneself away from external stimulus. Read a book, go for a walk et cetera. That doesn't say or imply that he doesn't give a sh*t, and the mere suggesting that it does somehow imply it is just poor understanding on your part. The rest of the context of the post suggests very clearly that he does have an interest in the subject and a good deal to say about it. But I guess you probably didn't read that, instead preferring to take one line of it out of context, grab completely the wrong end of the stick and proceed to make yourself look like a bit of a pillock. AlexGTAGamer
I detest the so called "humans" on YouTube 9/11 memorial video comment sections who just love to talk about how "evil" America is, just love to talk about conspiracy theories and how America deserved it all and show absolutely no respect at all to those who died on that day. Instead they'd rather talk about how 9/11 was all a lie so that America could go to war in the Middle East and take their oil supplies, and talk about how many people the Americans have killed instead. When I hear people talking like that, as much as I'm going to regret saying this but I just want to live in a communist country where "free speech" isn't allowed and they'd all suffer for saying such things. If I could have things my way (and I'm sure others feel the same way as I do) I'd arrest them all, however Human Rights and Freedom of Speech will stop that from ever happening. But burning flags and spreading hatred, isn't that considered a form of treason which is actually still punishable by death?

This is why I argued with you in the other topic, this isn't really the ideal place to discuss it but the people from their homeland have suffered much more than the American people. The death toll of Iraqis/Afghanis dwarfs the American deaths. Now that's not to say that the deaths of the Americans are unimportant but you need to appreciate that they feel oppressed. And if you knew anything, treason is plotting to destroy a government.

vertical limit
2558 people were tragically killed in the 9/11 attacks 10 years ago. That same day, 28,800 children under 7 died from preventable diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, measles, HIV/AIDS, and malnutrition. To date, $US1.25 trillion has been spent on the "war on terror" in Afghanistan and Iraq. That same $US1.25 trillion could build 150,000 schools and immunize and feed every child in africa for 60 years. 9/11 really was bad, but worst is happening everyday

It's the massive difference that these attacks had on society as a whole, not just in the US but around the world. If you try and rationalise it with figures, you're always going to miss the point entirely. avito coleone
Man september 11 is not about conspiracies, or poverty, or money, or terrorism, its about the day that our (western worlds/developed nations) trust was broken, from those of faith, from those in our own country, from everything, and it changed our society, we are no longer free, well not until we learn to trust again Edited September 30, 2011 by avito coleone
DjGDA86
Terrible day?! Oh well tough luck, America (NATO) bombed thousands and thousands of civilians, factories, hospitals, schools, graveyards and other historical objects for what?! To feel superior and afterwards to play a peacemaker in this world or something else?! Well f*ck NATO and the American ways, greedy bastards... Open your eyes, NATO just does the same sh*t Hitler did in WWII just in silence... 911 happened with reason and be happy that only that thing happened to you! Actually it happened more but only 911 is remembered as a big tragic day etc. Either way f*ck it... Also I would just add to this all the things One Piece wrote on here.
