Try to remember that your enemies are still out there, amongst your own people. Spreading misinformation and telling you Americans that you yourselves are to blame to these atrocities. Don't listen to their Anarchist bullsh*t, just don't. Being proud of your country is a wonderful thing and a world without nations would be a boring, souless place. Which is probably what the '9/11 justification' crowd would absolutely love.

Nothing gives me more faith for humanity than seeing nations like America celebrating their culture and uniting in the face of aggression and hatred. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

I've been dearly avoiding this thread for obvious reasons, but I'll go ahead and chime in.

It’s strange to think that even though I was only a kid, I still remember exactly what I was doing when I heard about 9/11, and watching the news that day. I think I was about 6 or 7 at the time, and it was truly a horrifying experience for everyone; those in the attacks or not. I remember waking up to see my grandmother sitting down in front of the television, eyes fixed on the screen as reports were coming in on the local news station. I tried asking her what was happening, but she didn't say a single word. Instead, she just sat on the edge of her favorite living room chair, motionless. She then took me to school, where I remember my teacher coming into the room, crying, trying to explain what had happened in New York just under an hour earlier.

That's all I can remember from that day, mostly. Those two moments though have been seared into me, and I always think about them come every anniversary of this date. In some ways, I'm glad I don't remember much else about what happened on 9/11, or for that matter, understood what happened. I feel it would have stripped me of the very remaining bits of hope and promise I had left in my childhood.

I think I'm going to celebrate today by just taking a long, nice walk.

I was 5 when this happened, but I still remember getting home from school and watching this on TV. Even then I could tell just how horrific all that was happening was, it's such a tragic day and such a huge anniversary, my best wishes and condolences go out to all the victims families.

There isn't really any more to say. RIP.

I was 9 when this happened and I actually didn't give a f*ck. Not trying to be offensive , I watched the footage of what happened and it was obviously horrific , but it was one of those things that you didn't realise the importance of what happened until years after.

If anyone feels like watching a moving, well made documentary about the day's events with as little editorialising as possible I can't recommend 102 Minutes That Changed America enough. It only deals with what happened that day, not any of the politics before of after and it's all made from amateur and live news footage (just video, not coverage).

Obviously it's depressing as all hell, but it's really good too.

I watched that, I think. Was it the one that had the time of day pop up on screen every now and then?

I was around 13 at the time, and remember coming home from school and going to the shop my mum worked in, for her to tell me to rush home and watch the news, as 2 towers in America had been hit by planes. I remember turning the TV on, and every channel had these images of two towers on fire, then showing all the aftermath, since by that time this event had just unfolded. I remember though, that they had just found the downed plane in the field.

Next few days were horrible, looking through the newspapers and seeing all those images, such as people falling/jumping from the buildings. sad.gif

Even though I do it every year, I can never get enough of these documentaries that are all over TV. There are still stuff that am finding out about the tragedy, whether correct or not, still interesting. One example being the fact that the Police Helicopter wouldn't issue a warning to the firemen inside the building when the first one collapsed.

R.I.P to everyone that lost their life on that day, and R.I.P to everyone who has died in the resulting conflicts.

it's only ironic but when 3000 peoples dying from a from a so-called terrorist attack in a "rich" contry everyone care about it but when more than 100,000k little african kid dies from disease and whatever nobody care about them... how sad the world is today.

Anyway, i don't really care what the admin say, if i'm starting talking about conspiraties, these tower where demolished by a controlled demolition and the planes where just a spoof for hiding that.

For what ? for doing a useless war and taking all the petrol/oil out there for making some money $$$

Also :

PS : f*ck 2001 one of the worst year i haved to live and beside the release of gta III it's just a sh*t balls.

Death by natural causes and death in a tragic incident are completely different issues. There's no ethics in the natural world, there is in the human one.

Enjoy your temp-ban. When you get off it, send me a PM and I'll explain to you every level you are wrong on.

With respect, how does this comment possibly merit a temporary ban?

I agree, his points on the conspiracy theories that have circulated since the attacks are quite inappropriate, in particular given the sensitivity involved in this tragedy 10 years on.

But he does raise an extremely valid point, and I'm inclined to agree. May those innocent people who died in these terror attacks rest in peace, but I think this has become a bit ridiculous. It's almost as if the media has monopolized the tragedy EVERY single year, and I'm a bit sick of it to be honest.

The only reason we constantly hear about 9/11 is due to the fact that the west was the victim this time. If this happened anywhere else (a part from the west), it would probably be lucky to manage a few minutes on our TV sets. It's almost sickening that these people essentially haven't been laid to rest, and frankly, the media blow this out of proportion. Every year, Americans are reminded that they are the heroes, reassuring the poor excuse for invading sovereign nations such as Afghanistan. Obviously 9/11 was an absolutely horrific event, and I extend my condolences to those affected, even 10 years on.

But I think we need to get real, and acknowledge that there are others who are suffering far worse than we are, and who have endured 100X the effects of 9/11.

To say there are no ethics in the natural world is wrong. The human and natural world co-exist and overlap. 100,000 deaths in Africa due to 'natural' causes such as famine, mal-nutrition and so on are definitely 'natural,' yet the human world does possess the power to prevent a large proportion of these deaths. Of course ethics plays a role here. If we all collectively chipped in a small amount, many of these deaths would be avoided, and Africa, South America and parts of Asia would not be regarded as third-world or developing. The fact of the matter is, we are selfish, and are unwilling to help unless there is something in it for us. Yet, when we are the ones faced with hardship and suffering, we expect a hand to reach out and offer assistance.

In the 21st century, deaths from a lack of resources, food, shelter, clean water, should simply not exist. Although our justice system may be built on equity, the scales of the world are extremely unbalanced.

This ultimately links back to 9/11, and the constant reminder we are served every year as the date approaches. The 11th of September is no longer just another day, it has become America's day of sympathy.

Anyone does want to argue the fact who's fault it is, or bring up any conspiracy theory's will take a weeks break from the forums.

I can remember getting home from school, and finding my parents already watching the TV. I was glue to the TV trying to take in just what was happening, watching the news channel repeat the footage of the planes crashing into both of the towers. Really distressing stuff, it annoys me that conspiracy theorists are trying to blame the government for such a terrible tragedy

That's why. It's just disrespectful to bring that kind off bullsh*t into a remembrance topic.

@Butters, yeah that's the one. 102MTCA follows the day in (as near as) real time and stitches together all the footage in chronological order.

I stated that in a previous post in this topic but I got the title wrong. It's really amazing seeing the aftermath of the streets.

God, I still remember... on that day, I just had lunch (by that time, it was 13:45 around here, in Portugal), and the TV was on... I was just waiting for the "after-lunch" cartoons to come where suddenly the news show pops up on the screen, saying that a plane just crashed onto the WTC. At that time, I was just another dumb 11-year-old boy, so I didn't had a precise idea of what's definitely going on.

It all looked very confusing to me, all that smoke coming out of the building and so... until the moment I saw people JUMPING OUT OF THE BUILDINGS... suicidal.gif then, it surely was my "waking-up call"!

Damn, I can only imagine what was on those people's minds during those moments of panic and terror... choosing between being burned alive or jumping literally to their death or dying under the building's debris... confused.gif

Sometimes, I stop for a minute and start thinking: What if I was inside of that building, during that day? How would I feel? What would I do?

It was very disturbing seeing such a scene like that... everyone running around, planes crashing onto the towers, the fire, the smoke... the buildings collapsing... it happened 10 years ago, but I feel it the same way as it was yesterday.

Well, I' not seeing the ceremonies but... at the end of this day, I will pray for all of those innocent victims that died during this attack... and for those families that have been broken apart, and the ones who lost their friends and relatives... I'm with you, guys. icon14.gif

Blame Nat Geo, not a continent. BBC hasn't got it wrong, for example.

Watching the ceremony on TV now. Can't believe it was 10 years ago. Still has a massive effect on the world. This ceremony really does hit home just how large the human cost of the attack was, not to mention those lost in the resulting war.

I remember being very young, watching the news reports. I didn't get the situation at first. At first, there was a plane hitting into a large building, then all I've seen was smoke. Then, my mother told me to get out of the living room. It was simply very horrifying for everyone around the globe.

A decade later, you start asking yourself ''how the f*ck could this even happen?''.

Why aren't people allowed to post their own opinions? My biggest condolences to all the families.

Right, if we're not allowed to have discussion over this event, you might as well change the topic's title to "9/11 - Condolence Book".

The older I get the more sensitive I think about this whole story.

I was not looking to all that that serious with seventeen as it happened. Getting older sucks in every way. sad.gif

Beeing more childish was great. We punshed each others balls but... we do not hated each others as adults can do so well. So, finally hate is the cause of all this sh*t. I want to be a child (partially) whole life.

Personally I think sure thing, discuss conspiracy theories and whatever, just not on this day. Surely you must see it as disrespectful? Today is a day to remember those who died.

Humour isn't really good at a time like this, but when people sincerely say stuff that's actually seriously out of order it's really annoying. Someone I know posted this;

Americans don't post "RIP All those who died in the 7/7 bombings" or anything similar. For that reason, I refuse to post RIP victims of 9/11

Pretty despicable, I commented and his replies showed that his basic opinion was that just because people posted a lot of 9/11 status and no one does on Remembrance Day or 7/7 that he doesn't care. What an idiot, how can you be spiteful and petty on a day like this?

I've been watching the ceremonies since 13:00 pm here in England (8:00 am US), I took part in the 1 minute silence(s) along with the rest of my family.

I really like the story of one of the US flags that was salvaged from the rubble of the Twin Towers site that has been given over to the public so they can restore it; children, Vietnam Vets, teachers, marines, all coming together to fix up this flag to all of its glory so it can fly again on site.

September 11th 2001 has become a date which nobody will forget, unless you were a very young child at the time, everybody remembers where they were, why, and when they were told about the atrocities taking place. It is still shocking and incredibly saddening to remember how quickly the near three-thousand lives were lost in the matter of mere moments.

I wish you guys the best but seriosuly, stop letting this sh*t get to your head.

Real easy for you to say. You don't live in America. You didn't deal with the aftermath of what happened. I was able to watch it, that's one thing, but the thousands that were involved and witnessed it, get it outta there head? f*ck off with that sh*t, that's disrespectful. Nobody needs a 'lesson' on how the ways of a "disgusting" culture work on the day "everything went down the drain".?

Being a 5th grader and watching this, it was hard to understand what was happening. But after thinking, watching those two planes crash into the towers, on live TV, is one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

As someone born and raised, I share the same sentiments Mr. Mister does on this. Assuming, it's for the right reason. We need to move on past it. Dwelling on it has gotten us no where but deeper and deeper into despair as a nation. With Bush we went ape sh*t on everything and dug our hole even deeper, and with Obama it's still going down with his lack of action on basically anything. He promised "Change" in the form of some Libertarianism and I just am failing to see it. The reason why is that the citizens of the US for far too long depended, expected, and entrusted our gov't to protect us. All it's been doing is figuratively rape us for the past 10 years.

A friend on Facebook posted a "REPOST THIS OMG" status last night calling for everyone to not post on FB for a time of silence when the attacks happened. I say let that continue out indefinitely and move on. One of the biggest things grief counseling does is teach you to accept what happen and continue living life, do not dwell in the tragedy. So please refrain from comments about how insensitive this may seem. I've already expressed my sympathies to those who had a loss that day.

RIP to all those who died 10 years ago but also RIP to the hundreds of thousands of civillians and children being murdered on a daily basis in the Middle East. Baffles me how the west are considered the good guys, anyone who is proud to go to war makes me ashamed to be a human being.

On another note, is anyone on the forums a New Yorker who was in Manhattan that morning? Or in New York in general.
