Runey
This hit hard here in Raleigh. Josef Vasicek played for the Hurricanes and was a fan favorite. Especially hit people within the organization deeply.
Marlowe.
Pavol Demitra - one of our best defense men in the Flyers history. I had him on a fantasy team a few years ago. And I recently traded him in a Be A GM mode in NHL 11 Damn.... What a tragedy, it's a sad day.
nightwalker83
I heard about this on the news this morning! Reports said that president Mevedev (spelling) is planning on not longer using the Soviet era planes by next year. Oddsock
I'm studying abroad in the Czech Republic right now and my Czech teacher pointed this out to us in the newspaper today. I'm not a big hockey fan but I still feel so very sorry that these poor guys kicked the bucket in such a way.
AndrefromEstonia
this once again shows how sh*tty russian planes are. Similar catastrophe happened when the president of Poland died while flying and crashing with a russian plane. There noone to blame but russians themselves for making such unstable planes with bad quality, also the planes are very old allready. Nice to see an expert here. * * Estonia, yeah. What else can be heard about russians from estonian? The crashed plane was forbidden to use the European Union airspace, deemed too unsafe by the European Air Safety Commission, so, yeah, it was a crappy plane. R.I.P. There were only 7 accidents for the whole history of that airplane. Vs, say. 56 of lockheed tristar or 303 of boeing 737. It IS old though, and its certificate expire date was set to october 2011. Its not the plane, it the company who should be blamed. People like to shovel sh*t over Russia, showing it off as some sh*thole filled with uneducated barbarians. I got used to that. Haters gonna hate, thats it. You people should serioulsy widen your knowledge about aircraft. Russian or europian. Sorry to say, but i hate Russia...and russians. The only decent russians live in Russia...where as in Estonia they are stupid idiotic drug addicts who f*ck everything up, like the riot they made in Tallinn. Back on the subject, what makes you think i don't know about russian planes? Russian planes have crashed in Estonia also. I mean, the quality of russian things isn't that good...cars are badly made, planes also. And a reason for that plane type having only 7 crashes in history maybe because that specific model wasn't even made that large amount then a 737 for example, wich is one of the most well known and most used aircrafts in the world. Russian planes aren't used anywhere except Russia. I also viewed this animation of the crash, seems like the main reason was most likely some engine failure wich cause the plane to crash into the airports huge antenna wich sliced the plane in half. E: Also you said 7 accidents...there has been 9 accidents including this. And as i read the amount of this type of planes ever made is only 178. Haters gonna hate, thats it. You people should serioulsy widen your knowledge about aircraft. Russian or europian. You can't compare numbers of accidents without comparing flying hours or numbers built. Proportionally, they're significantly more likely to be involved in an accident than most modern Western aircraft. As much as I hate to agree with Andre, he's right in this instance. As a whole, the Russian manufacturers have a significantly higher accident rate than their Western counterparts. Why? Well, many of the current designs are rooted in the days of the Soviet Union, where the Warsaw Pact and Russia's close relationship with many African and Middle Eastern nations gave them a guaranteed market. There was, and still is, little competition in the Russian Civil air industry, which means that, technologically, they still lag far behind the equivalent aircraft developed in the Western world. There's a reason that Tupolev and Yakovlev can only do trade with third-world airlines and in Russia and the ex-SSR states. allhailkingryan
I don't watch or understand hockey, but this is a sad story. Sort of similar to the Manchester United crash many years before I was born
darthYENIK
This is what the spirit of hockey is all about... KHL's bold plans to keep Lokomotiv running after tragedy Basically what this article says is that Yaroslavl has millions they have to pay to close out the contracts of the players and coaches that were lost, and not only are there players on other teams that want to go to Yaroslavl to rebuild the team, but the other teams want to pay for it. It's been a long sh*tty summer for hockey. At first I thought it was sh*tty because Teemu Selanne, my favorite player and a legend of the game, might retire, because of a bum knee. But in the shadow of the events to follow, that's like a 1st world problem compared to a 3rd world problem. Three NHL players died either from drugs or suicide. A couple players had to effectively end their careers due to concussion related injuries, the face of the NHL, Sidney Crosby might be next to do so. And then this horrible incident. I think I speak for all hockey fans regardless of the country they live in or the league they follow, in saying, I just want to put this summer behind me, and get back to hockey.
