What do I need money for in-game?

I was wondering what to do with all the money earned in-game. If I buy different houses/apartments, will it unlock missions or is it just to have more places to save?

Thank youse all!

With all the FREE weapons and body armour floating around you can easily get by without purchaseing any of them.

The money is best used for buying food, at least once per session. There are vending machines and street vendors available from the start of the game before the fast food restaurants are available (open).

And of course buy All the safe houses. Buying safe houses increases the percentage of game completion and will allow CJ to lose wanted stars when bribe stars arn't convient. To lose wanted stars just either buy a shirt or pants, OR go to the safe house and change his shirt or pants. Saving the game also removes wanted stars, but you can't save while doing a mission, so changing a garment works well.

There will be occasions when you will have to spend money on missions.

Almost forgot: There are also Lap-Dancers, Prostitutes and Gambling oppurtunities. (Pool, Low-Rider Competitions, Off-Track Betting, and Casino games.)

There's a few properties which unlock missions, such as Zero's RC Shop, Wang Cars, Verdant Meadows for example, but those don't come until much later in the game, and you only have to buy the latter one used in the example to advance the story. The other two unlock side missions.

But no actual "Save Houses" are needed to advance the story, you can just use them to save the game and change your clothes.

Buying all the non story properties gives a large % towards 100%

...And a convenient place for a quick save or a place to erase your wanted level.
