Hi, i was trying to install GTA IV in my computer and i had the following error, when the game told me to take out disc 1 and insert disc 2 i did it, but when i inserted disc 2 the installation got stocked, it just freezed right when i clicked on (OK) it just crashed, so when i saw this i closed the installation process and then i saw a GTA IV icon in my desktop, so i clicked it and the game opens normally, then the update tab comes up and i click yes but it wont let my update it, (the LIVE update)... i have already installed this game several times before and this is the first time it happens.

Please Help.

Thanks

the GFWL update is already installed and the patch it wont let me... gives me a dumb error and some path in my C: hard drive for more info, so i follow the path and see some info, then it says install manually or something like that in a LIVE icon and it gives me the same error, i inserted disc 2 and founded that the data3 is damaged...

It's possible your disks have become damaged/dirty, you should inspect the surface for stains/scratches.

its kind of weird because GTA IV Disc 1 is totally scratched, since you have to use the disc to play the game... but disc 1 works perfectly, and disc 2 is completely clean and has 0 scratches and it says data3 damaged...

Maybe something from the scratched disc is installed but executed later it isn´t working correctly?

Disc 1 is totally scratched

If a game starts to suck and one of the disks is f*cked up, better buy a new one.

Try copying both disk contents to some HDD folder and then install the game from there. The problem is GTAIV game disks are often of very poor quality and the substrate layer tends to oxidise.

I never ever had any issues with gaming discs. I care them, I never touch the top or the bottom. That really pays. I don´t understand how some people treat their discs.

Keep in mind that the top of a disc is more sensitive for scratches than the bottom. I´ve heard the memory layer is more close to the top of a disc, so scratches on the top

may trouble more than even bigger scratches on the bottom side. But about that I´m not sure at all.

Sl10? I have never heard of such error code, are you sure you wrote it down correctly?

I think he might have looked at the "more information" part of the error message instead of the message that first appeared.
