GTA San Andreas Beta Discussion and Finds

I've heard it's been confirmed the island wasn't alcatraz.

If that's the case...I'm guessing those little artifacty bits are docks and this was originally going to be the home of the boat club or something similar, then when Bayside was added they moved the boating school and marina there.

Hi guys, not really sure if this thread/forum is still open, but if anyone reads this, please reply.

I found an unused .ifp called tec.ifp, of course assuming it was for the Tec9. Because of the latest DYOM update (8.3 alpha), I found out that it was a complete .ifp file it even has the complete reloading and firing animations but no double. If you think about it, it kinda looks like Tomme Vercetti shooting with a pistol. I wanted to know if you guys know what codes it uses but I'm pretty sure it uses the tec handling in the weapon.dat and the default.ide files. I just wanna know if /we could reuse it like it was actually a part of the game, just like the buddybad properties of the buddy.ifp for the SPAS12.

P.S

It kinda looks like the silenced.ifp but instead uses one hand like what I said, Tommy Vercetti's.

Someone recently leaked a small piece of GTA SA's design document that had some info about CJ's girlfriends. This is all of the info I've gathered from it so far:

1. Denise:

> "The Gangbanger"
> Was named "Coochie"
> Originally lived on Ballas turf - requiring CJ to take over her neighborhood before being able to ask her out
> Considered her relationship with CJ "very Romeo & Juliet style" (in the final game she still calls CJ "Romeo" sometimes)

> CJ could go on burglaries with her, not just drive-bys
> Had no house? The doc states CJ would wait in a Ballas-owned park and she would come out of the bushes or something (WTF)
> But if she has no house, then why there's a description of her room's looks that matches with the room she has in the final game? IDK mang, go figure
> Dating girls originally had some serious consequences, not just perks. For this instance, the Ballas would regularly do drive-bys on CJ from time to time

> Two-timing is listed in every girl's hate list, meaning it was probably going to be a very big deal
> There's an implication that the only way for CJ to call his girlfriend out for a date is to get a suitable car and blow the horn, maybe a car was absolutely necessary?

2. Bobbi La Queef:

> "The Cheerleader"
> She's a cut girlfriend! A deleted post in this topic was true!
> "Rich preppy daddy's girl"

> I think he was full American, but judging by the Spanish-ish surname she could potentially be a Latina

> Lived on Rodeo in LS, worked as a cheerleader in a football stadium and hung out on Verona Beach (especially the gym there)

> At the start of every date, Bobbi's father would closely inspect CJ and his vehicle and give him a big lecture on treating his daughter right ("She's so innocent and vulnerable")
> Girlfriends' houses could originally be used as safehouses - CJ could climb in through her bedroom window to save the game
> Gyms and beaches could be used as a place to hang out with a girlfriend

> Bobbi would change into a "stunning" swimsuit if taken to a beach

> If taken to a gym instead, she'd switch to her cheerleader kit
> Owning a beachfront safehouse or driving a convertible car along the beachfront were two major relationship boosters for Bobbi
> Bobbi hated tattoos, fat, junkfood outlets and drugs (<- maybe this means neighborhoods with drug dealing or CJ could deal drugs?)

> The description of Bobbi's room matches 1:1 with Katie Zhan's room in the final game. In fact, all files related to Katie's room are named with the prefix "bobbi_"!

> Dating consequences: Muscley guys in the gym pick on CJ and the gym's monthly membership fee goes higher (<- wait, there was a membership fee on gyms?!)
> It seems R* wanted the 2005 controversial stuff to happen anywhere. For this instance, it could be triggered at the player's house or during the weight-lifting minigames at the gym
> Bobbi would clean CJ's car while wearing a swimsuit if the 2005 controversial stuff occured at CJ's safehouse and there was a nice car in the garage

3. Helena:

> "The Gun Nut"
> Was named "Kylie Goodpoke"
> Was a "strong minded NRA gal"
> Had a big gun range around the back of her farm

> "Heavy survivalist overtones"
> "Daisy Duke meets Calamity Jane meets Survivalist"
> Her room's description is "the barn", matching up with the final game
> Having a large weapon inventory and high weapon skill stats would've impressed Helena

> Shooting ranges and "bar brawling" could originally be date venues
> CJ could originally give gifts of clothes, shoes, jewelry, perfume, "other girlie items" (IDK what kinda), weapons, vehicles, sunglasses, watches etc.
> Dating consequences: Helena's family would attack CJ every time he passes through and guns at countryside Ammu-Nations would cost more

> CJ could climb into a hay loft in Helena's barn to save the game

> If Helena invited CJ in for the 2005 controversial stuff, he would have to beat her in a fist fight first before anything else can happen
> For some reason, Helena would also fist fight any other girl CJ brings to the barn
> Somehow Helena knew Barbara personally and would hate CJ if he dated her

> Weapons would gradually generate depending on how well the relationship is going

> Helena originally hung out at either the Ammu-Nation shooting range or her own farm's rifle range

4. Michelle:

> "The Petrol Head"
> Was always named "Michelle Cannes", pretty weird how her name survived the entire development process
> Unphased by two-timing, doesn't expect CJ to be faithful, only dates for fun, "as free as the open road"
> Michelle's room description matches the final game, but the document specifically states her small studio apartment was located directly above her "free repair" garage

> The document states she's based on Angelina Jolie from Gone in 60 Seconds
> Strip poker, mountain biking, skateboarding, boating and race meets were types of dates
> High vehicle skills and high Driving School scores originally impressed Michelle
> Michelle hated any involvement with drugs, meaning CJ really could deal drugs?...

> Dating consequences: "Spreads the word" - Pay'N'Spray and vehicle customization cost double
> Michelle would race CJ to the date location on her own bike if CJ came around on a street racing bike
> CJ could originally only use Michelle's garage to repair his vehicle for free when NOT wanted, plus doing so originally also gave the option to save the game

> Being wanted near Michelle's place would piss her off

> The "she drives" date for Michelle in the final game was originally bike-based and the 2005 controversial stuff would occur during it (on the bike)

5. Barbara:

> "Kinky Cop"
> Was originally a state trooper
> She was originally full American
> Name survived throughout the entire development - Final and BETA names are the same

> Originally somehow knew Helena personally and called her "Anarchic Trash", plus hated CJ if he dated her
> Barbara originally preferred the 2005 controversial stuff to happen in "the great outdoors" (on a car bonnet)
> Low "times arrested" stat, low wanted level on arrest and high Vigilante mission scores originally impressed Barbara
> CJ could originally get piercings as a part of character customization? Barbara originally liked piercings

> Being arrested in the desert with a high wanted level or being caught two-timing with Helena would really piss off Barbara
> Going on Vigilante missions in Barbara's patrol car originally counted as an alternate date pick-up scenario
> More bribe pickups would spawn in the desert depending on how well the relationship is going
> Dating consquences: Getting arrested costs double in the desert and wanted level increases faster there

> Barbara's precinct was a safehouse: Walk inside with a low-to-medium wanted level, get it cleared and get an option to save the game

> The 2005 controversial stuff would also automatically occur in the cells of Barbara's precinct if arrested with a low wanted level in the desert
> Getting arrested for the first time in the desert would've introduced Barbara

6. Katie:

> "Rubber Nurse"

> Was named "Suzi Nookie"
> Originally lived in Las Venturas, not San Fierro
> Was always East Asian despite living in LV

> Her room's description matches with Millie Perkins' room description, and maybe it was also a part of some fetish club

> "This sick bitch likes self abuse in a man. She likes to wrap in cling flim, dress in rubber etc. She believes in self abuse and humiliation one achieves freedom"
> CJ would've had to regularly end up in the hospital to get Katie as a girlfriend
> A lot of her character traits were transferred to Millie Perkins in the final game, so in the BETA she was way too much of a masochist

> Katie originally liked being hit and humiliated regularly (unused "LIKES_BEING_HIT_IN_PUBLIC" flag from the leaked Definitive Edition source code comes to mind)

> She could also turn the tables on the matter if CJ didn't keep up with what she needs
> Dating consequences: "Spreads the word" - Dying costs double, health pickups heal less, Ambulances don't give health boosts (WTF kinda girl is that?!)
> CJ could tie Katie up in her apartment and leave her there for days to massively boost her relationship stat, but it was also necessary to go back and release her after some time (or she dies)

> Katie's apartment was a safehouse where CJ needed to drop by regularly to feed and beat her, if she was tied up

> One date occasion is listed as CJ needing to pole-dance for Katie in a fetish club while wearing some... clothes
> Every time CJ dies would've been another time the 2005 controversial stuff occured. And if Katie is OK with CJ, all penalties that occur on death are cancelled
> Meeting Katie at the hospital to gain health would automatically set CJ's health to 25% even if he had more health than that ("You look too healthy! Let me take you down a peg or two!")

> Katie would've been introduced when CJ first goes to the hospital (by himself or when dead) or the fetish club in Las Venturas

7. Millie:

> Air hostess party girl (in the final game she sometimes says "Airline food makes you fart.")

> Was full American, final Millie looks like she's half-African
> Was named "Mile-High Millie"
> First purchase of a flight ticket at the airport would've introduced Millie

> Dates could've been done on yachts

> No specific location: She would randomly phone ahead of time that she's gonna be in either LS, SF or LV (regardless of where CJ is) and CJ would've had to dart across the map to meet her
> Millie would bring up to 2 of her air hostess friends along on the date, raising up restaurant and nightclub entry fees (<- there was this too?), and then they would all go over to CJ's safehouse
> Dating consequences: Cancelled flights, costly flights and more expensive to buy aircraft

> Millie or one of her colleagues handled the 2005 controversial stuff when CJ buys a flight ticket from one city to another (mid-flight)

8. Honey-G:

> "Superstar"
> Another cut girlfriend!
> African-American international R&B\rap superstar with a promising career in the movies in the near future
> Lived in a penthouse of the best hotel in town (LS, SF or LV, wherever she shows up)

> Same location setup as Millie: Phones ahead of time about which city she's in and CJ must travel ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE MAP to meet her
> CJ knew her throughout the game (radio, ped dialogue etc.), meaning she was a big part of the 3D universe lore
> Honey-G could've be seen leaving cool locations when on a date with someone else: "Camera flashes, bouncers, fast car waiting to take her away"
> She was supposed to appear at the end of the "Cut Throat Business" mission, looking for a new manager

> "High maintenence and demanding, but worth it all, she is The Ultimate Girlfriend"
> If another girlfriend caught CJ two-timing her with Honey-G, she would've sold her story to the newspapers (maybe CJ would've lost all of his girlfriends this way?)
> Missing a planned date with her by getting arrested would've caused an instant breakup
> Honey-G liked everything high-class: Best clothes, haircut, tattoos, accessories, cars, houses etc., more muscles, less fat and only went to the best clubs and restaurants

> Since she was a celebrity, it was also necessary to make sure people on the street doesn't recognize Honey-G when on a date with her
> Dating consequences: CJ's Respect stat would brutally drop (maybe this would've happened frequently?)
> But at the same time, going on the first date with Honey-G would've massively boosted the Respect stat and all other girlfriends would grow desperate for CJ
> Additional bonuses include everything becoming cheaper and getting arrested on low wanted levels costing nothing

Damn, R* were really ambitious with this game, huh? And it feels so shocking when you realise all of GTA SA was already fully planned out way back in November 2002.

Also, as far as can tell from early LV footage (I know, it's sh*tty quality), the LVPD skin hasn't changed since the early beta (as everyone probably already knows, the final LAPD version (LSPD, but the game just calls the LS as "LA" in its internal files) is literally the same skin as the LVPD, just with a different texture; while the SFPD just used the LAPD skin in the beta, and its model is new in the final).

I have absolutely no proof of this conversation that occured, but for reference I was a NeoGAF user from 2013 - 2016 and at one point I managed to get in contact with a dev who worked on GTA SA (who was also a GAF member) who after I'd sparked up a conversation with in PMs, told me that Rockstar were toying around with the idea of an 'expansion pack' almost for GTA SA, which to the best of my memory, included a mission in San Fierro relating to hijacking a submarine.

You're free to believe me or not, I wish I still had access to these PMs so I could share them, because I know I'm missing a lot of details. That's just all I remember, unfortunately.

I just want to get it out there. No idea if it lines up with anything that's come out in the past few years since I've been away from the beta topics for quite sometime now.

No clue on who the dude's name was. I've tried hard to recover these messages or even just an account name, but I voluntarily had my account banned in 2016 during all the US election nonsense.

I remember this, you're not hallucinating it. It was waaaaaaaaay back, something about a military DLC, right? The site is a right-wing hellhole now but I do remember those GTA SA posts way back.

Regarding that ominous cut "Roadside Assistance" mission:

I'm fairly convinced it would have used the "Flash" car as it's the only missing streetracer car at Wang Cars in the end. Probably would have spawned where they put the Savannah as a replacement.

TTDISA had a take on this mission that didn't really fit the name in my oppinion + it also didn't use a flash, so here is a personal Idea how the mission could have played out for those interested:

Spoiler

((Phone ringing)) "CJ!"

CJ: "What's happening Cesar?"

Cesar: "I grabbed one of the cars from our list holmes!"

CJ: "Cool, what's the problem?"

Cesar: "I shook the cops, but I blew the transmission on the way to the garage, eh. I'm stuck on the side of the road, near *insert location, maybe somewhere in Badlands*. I could use a tow."

CJ: "Don't worry about it, i'ma come pick you up."

Cesar: "You better hurry holmes, the cops are probably still looking for the car"

*Steal a towtruck objective*

*Go pick up Cesar before the cops arrive.* (Time Limit starts - If you miss it the mission fails with a small ingame cutscene of the cops arriving)

After you pick up Cesar and the Flash car:

"Ok holmes, we better stay off the highway with this thing. Take us back to the garage, eh!"

*Tow the car back to the doherty garage objective*

*If you enter the highway, there is a high chance you will be spotted by the cops* *visibility bar like in NOE*

There could still be scripted cop encounters on the way back that would make them chase after you.

Another fail state could be the flash detaching from the towtruck for more then xx seconds

After the mission the flash car would spawn at Wang Cars and possibly a Towtruck at the Doherty garage as a reward.

Wow, that's a fascinating story! While it's unfortunate that you no longer have access to the PMs, it's great that you're sharing what you remember. The idea of a submarine hijacking mission in San Fierro sounds like it could have been an exciting addition to GTA SA. Hopefully, someone who's knowledgeable about the game's development might chime in and confirm or deny this. Thanks for sharing this tidbit, and I'm curious to see if anyone else has any information about this potential expansion pack.

It's just a word of mouth without any proper citation or official source this'll remain a fever dream if I am honest. We're gonna run into Darkel cut missions speculations which died years ago. And a few posts on neogaf don't have any source either so they should be dismissed.

Awesome! I didn't know we now had this much info about RA.

Really makes me wonder why it was cut. It seems to be quite a simple mission that wouldn't have been too technical and it would have properly introduced the towing mechanic.

If that included file list is a snapshot of what's available, that's kinda f*cking mad. Fair amount of .bmp's in there, and code for all the trilogy games. And if this is still related to John Doe, boy he's been doing some real shady deals and has angered many a person lmao.

It's honestly quite fun to see that R* are still using some of that code to this day, after they migrated a lot of their custom GTA logic to RAGE during development of GTA IV. It also reveals MLO's are a concept that they came up with during the trilogy and not IV, likely because of what people colloquially call "the interior world".

I also wonder if the file paths inside that list are representative of where the originals were, in which case, is TORW revealing that this came from R* Toronto at some point years ago...?
