Is this the Retail(CD) version OR a Downloaded version?

If Downloaded, from where?

If Retail, Is this the Original CD OR a Copy of the CD?

Any No-CD cracks?

Any Daemon tools or similar things on your PC?-If so, get rid of them as they can interfere with games.

Are ALL drivers up to date for the Video card, Sound card, DX, etc.?-Meaning you have the latest DX version of DX11?

Also, Please post the REQUIRED information from the PINNED Troubleshooting topic:

What is your OS(Operating System)?

Do you have the latest Service Pack(SP)?-Which is SP3 for XP, SP2 for Vista, and SP1 for Windows 7.

What processor?

What processor speed?

What is the Ram?

How much ram is usuable?

Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit OS?

What is the Video card?

What is the VRAM?

How much VRAM is dedicated?

How much vram is total?

Have you tried 98 compatibilty mode and deleting the .set file in the User Files Folder in Documents?

Please answer ALL the above questions, so we can better help you, as in your haste to post, you must have missed the Pinned requirements topic.? confused.gif

Radioman, in situations like these you don't need to spam people with questions, even if they're the whatever "default" ones. For example you see he's running Vista, you know his computer is good enough for VC and if he can run IV, even better. Real question is: Is your game modded and do you use NO-CD cracks?

For example you see he's running Vista

Actually, that can be either Vista or Windows 7, as they both look similar in that way. If it is Vista or 7(mostly Vista), it could be the UAC(User Account Control) feature is interfering with the game, as on my Vista desktop, I had to turn the UAC off to get the game to work properly. It could also be an AV/Firewall program blocking the game. But, with that error, most of the time it is more than likely due to an illegal game version.?

But, since a Moderator from 2003 has posted the Pinned topic here, it obviously is important enough information to know when posting a Troubleshooting thread? confused.gif That Pinned topic is the main reason I don't suggest the Patch for III and VC, as it says the Patch was pretty much obsolete at release thanks to newer hardware and drivers...Just a few friendly heads up. smile.gificon14.gif

sounds like a corrupted main.scm or some other data file? Are you using a downloaded savegame or something like a trainer etc.

There's nothing wrong with the data files. What's your hardware? Being able to run one game does not equate to being able to run any other games.

Try the following options:

Control Panel -> System. Go to the advanced system settings, and go to Data Execution Prevention (DEP). Click "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select". Click "Add" and find your gta-vc.exe to add it to DEP. Click Apply then OK. OK again on System. Right click the Vice City .exe and "Run as Administrator".

See if that works. smile.gif

There seems to be problem with UAC. Not actually problem but a feature. Whenever you try to install mods in the folder that is protected by UAC the mods files does not goes there.

Example:- if you have Vice city at the default directory(C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice city) then the game works fine without any mods installed at first. Then when you install the mod over that folder the mod actually installs somewhere in Users folder which automatically bypasses UAC! Then when you load the game the game loads parts from both the original and mod folder creating crashing issues.

Solution: Use a directory that does not require UAC. EG: D:\GTA VC

You may have installed the mods and installed again the original VC files over it, but believe me the mods are somewhere else!!!Just try the solution and give me the cookie.gif cookie biggrin.gif

EDIT:Alternate solution: Delete the whole Rockstar Game folder from here-

C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files

This is the place where your program gets installed over if it automatically bypasses UAC.
