WF the Hobgoblin
How exactly does one take something for granted? I like the television for example, I appreciate it. But does the fact that I don't get up each morning and praise JLB, Allah, humanity or what have you for giving us the tv mean I take it for granted? CheesyJ
I think we take all forms of modern technology, such as TV's, mobile phones and the internet, for granted. Whenever my area is hit by a powercut and I cannot use these things, I suddenly realise how lucky I am to be able to use these things all the time, especially when they were only invented recently. Slamman
I don't actually, and I mention the old tech in reverence!! I still kept one Betamax and sold the others because, hey, there was a DEMAND for them! haha Believe it Most people are looking to dub tapes to preserve them, true, BUT..... My SuperBeta reference deck is the GCS-50, and those suckers are going for big bucks now!! As for tech though, it's a given, and part of the reason I like being my age, I got to appreciate my younger days without electronic distractions, and I know, and I am telling you straight out, they are addicting and controlling, so ween yourself away from them once in a while!! Get to do some hiking, boating, camping, skiing... You know, Get outside without electronic gadgets, go in the woods without a portable DVD player! hahaha
Cursed
agree with indoor plumbing, access to clean and reliable water is a major one i think, where i live we're dependent on a spring, which drives out in dry summers like this one, so we have to pump water from another spring (least we don't have any water bills) but seriously when you are forced to work to get something as simple as water, you don't take it for granted like others do. I spent the last two weeks living at my Grandparents house in France and they have the same problem, no running water all through summer. Have to fill up a tonne of 5 litre water bottles for use in the toilet, you take for granted being able to rinse your hands and brush your teeth easily too. 1st gtaROCKER
If there is one thing Westeners take for granted, and have far too much of, it's Food. Seriously. Compared to other parts of the world, British and American people over-eat by massive amounts
Morsaw
One thing im sure all of us (On this forum atleast) take for granted is the fact THAT WE KNOW HOW TO SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH! Do you guys realize the power you guys have just by knowing enligsh? We can travel all over the world just by knowing it, I lived in Brazil for a while, and there was this english school that would pay fluent speakers over 6000 US Dollars a month just to work in a full english immersion course in which people who want to learn english spend a day with a fluent speaker! All just because you know english! 90% (Or More) Of major movies, videos, songs all play in english, the whole worlds wants to learn english and we just treat it like any other thing. Children in non english speaking countries have to take English as subject in school, and in some cases people even spend their whole lifes just to learn how to do what we can do with ease! I remember this english teacher I met in turkey had a Phd in english and you could still tell that his english wasnt perfect, he still had an accent. Please people dont take this for granted! I know we all complain that we wish we could speak languages that seem much cooler than english, but in reality, there is no better language to know. Than you im done ranting. Finn 7 five 11
Shirts. Just think about it, a shirt is actually pretty complex, the sleeves and whatnot. Without adequate clothing we wouldn't have been able to colonise the harsher parts of the world - a key to our success as a world wide species. Its a shortlived success im sure. Slamman
My car, as mentioned earlier...wheels I suppose, however my car's transmission is REALLY slipping now and it leaves me between a rock and hardplace, so I took it for granted I could get where I needed with it. Damn depressing regret
1st gtaROCKER
Has anyone thought of the sacred vagina and penis? Seriously, we wouldn't be alive without these wonderful things.
fireguy109
Here's one within something taken for granted (video games) - HUD and minimap. Can you imagine hopping into a brand new GTA V city and having absolutely no map, and having to drive to some random street on a time deadline? And it sure is hard killing all your enemies when you can't see them on the map. And god forbid having to find and chase down a vehicle in a labyrinth of streets.
