I like to vicariously experience a life that I'd otherwise never experience, whether it's jacking a police car and mowing down peds on the sidewalk with it, or scoring a brilliant solo goal in the 87th minute. That sh*t is awesome.

Just a hobby.

 

'Escape from misery' seems a bit much . However, I do sometimes like to escape into a good game late at night and be able to turn off my head from some of life's nagging thoughts.

I asked myself this question a lot over the years, and only until recently I understood why.

 

The answer entered my mind while playing Assassins Creed 2 and its rather simple, its the part towards the end (I'll user spoiler tags because I'm such a nice guy) where you get to beat the sh*t out of the pope, like I mean the absolute sh*t. You are just throwing your fists into that motherf*cker like nobodies business. That's when I realized when in real life am I going to do that?

 

Never.

 

Video games let me achieve the things I am too lazy to leave the house and do.

I just play video games mainly for the fun factor. It's nice to escape reality at times when you're having a bad day, but that isn't always the best way to go about it.

Either if it's somthing that I would not do in life because it's too dangerous or stupid, or because it's out of boredom. Many little reasons I suppose.

Rather reply with boredom, or simply having fun I play video games because it just relaxes me. Everytime I play I slip into my own little world where nothing else matters. I just zone out.

 

Sometimes I wonder what the last 20 years would've been like if it wasn't for video games. I have gone for days on end without playing them though.

 

I guess it's why some people like to fish, or play golf. I like to play video games not only to break boredom, or to have fun, but because it genuienely relaxes me. One thing I have noticed over the last few years is I don't get anywhere near as frustrated. When I was a kid I always used to get pissed off at the smallest thing. Now I just go with the flow. If I get stuck on a game I just play something else or come back later with a more focussed mind.

Mainly to cure boredom for me. Its also a great way to interact with distant friends and family who I don't get to see to often and in my opinion more fun then running up the phone bills or speaking to them via Facebook or MSN.

I'd hate to be playing out of boredom. I want to want to play games, not just cause there's nothing else to do, although I've played out of boredom and it's not as fun.

Because I have time to waste, entertainment is there to waste free time, so that's what it shall be used to do. If there was somrthing else to do I wouldn't play games, but there are some times when there is nothing else and I get bored.

I play videogames for fun. For what else? Yea, when I have a lot of free time it is really boring, but when I'm bored, I go to sleep and sleep for a while. It's a best way to defeat boredom.

I play IV because I like to do things in there that I can't do in real life.

I hate when people say ''to escape'', that's some psycho ''I live out my depraved rape fantasies in video games'' type sh*t. If you need to ''escape'', you might have issues.

 

 

 

I find the long-winded reasons for playing video games to be over-compensating in some sense. It's a video game, not a life experience.
