Death_Blade
Im wondering, how modifiable is this game? Is it possible to remove/replace buildings? Say I wanted to remove a building in the game and replace it with a dirt field for example. How would I go about doing this? Any tutorials out there I can follow? What about adding buildings as well, how would I go about placing them in the proper spot? Any help would be appreciated. Limiter
To delete buildings, look up the building using OpnIV and comment out the appropriate IDE and WPL inside GTA.dat in the commons folder within the main GTA IV directory. You can also delete the building using OpenIV if you find it in there and don't wish to touch the GTA.dat file. Please correct me if I am wrong. To add buildings, you will need 3ds max for custom model creation and by using GIMS, you can activate map helper which will allow you to see the map of GTA IV and thus allow you to correctly place your model for export. xgtamontariox
To add buildings, you will need 3ds max for custom model creation To add onto this, if you do not have 3ds Max, you can use other alternative programs such as Z- Modeler and sketchup to create custom models, though I recommend Z- Modeler if you plan on making complex, high poly structures as it has more tools. Hope this helps!

From everything I read, you had to freaking have that, nothing else would work >_>.
Limiter
Yes there are other modelling programs. But 3ds max have the gims plugin which makes it easier to add models into gta iv, which is what the op is asking. Unless you convert a Zmodeller object to max to use gims, but that would still mean you need max. Please feel free to correct me if I am missing something. Death_Blade
I see. I have another question though. Is there any kind of tutorial out there on how to create interiors for existing models? Right now all I want to do is add some interiors to a few buildings and add some signs to the outside. All the buildings already exist in-game, so right now im not adding anything extra. All the tutorials ive seen so far are about adding in your own custom models. I just want to add bits to existing buildings basically. Anyone got more information on this? Also, how do I export a model from 3DS max to a wdr file? I get an error every time I try to use shadow tools. Any more info would be nice. Edited August 20, 2011 by Death_Blade
Limiter
Sorry for a late reply. First off, don't use shadow's tools, they are very buggy because shadow already quit GTA modding and will not update it. Use GIMS to export .odr and then use OpenIV to convert .odr to .wdr via openformats. To make interiors, an easy way to do it is to prepare a model of the interior and export it as you would for brand new map objects, except this time put it inside the building you want, then you can teleport using an altered trainer.ini of simple native trainer to the coordinates of your that interior. From what I know, Rockstar's buildings are see through from the inside looking out, which means you don't need to open polygons to make view the outside world.
