Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I think that GTA V could end up being a record breaking game. The benchmark at the moment is around 20 million, but I could see the new game smashing that record and possibly going all the way to 30 million.

Am I being too optimistic, or is there a good chance it will?

It all depends on the setting if its Sanandreas it could reach the 30 million mark (especially if its a boyz 'n' the hood type story), If its Vice City it could also reach the 30 million mark but has a smaller chance of doing so than if its set in Sanandreas. The sales figures are unpredictable if GTA V is set in a whole new setting but I think it would struggle to reach the 30 million mark however it would still take over Sanandreas (22.5 million) as the biggest selling game in the series.

I'm just speaking my mind. That's not spamming. Spamming is saying comments that don't make sense. And this is a constructed address. Case closed.

I'm guessing a little less than IV, because it isn't as anticipated.

It will almost certaintly out sell IV, and im looking forward to V more than I did IV.

Not a chance. IV was anticipated so much because everything was new, the graphics, the gameplay, the universe. In case of V, only universe is new so I don't think it will outsell IV.

I'd say around 25 million. Possibly even more if PC is ported well and is released simultaneously with console versions.

Every day, there is more and more computers and players - more copies.

I have no idea how much could it sell, but I can freely say - it will sell a hella lot of copies, even if it doesn't break the record.

Depends on the game's location, probably.

GTA IV for its time, set sale records like never before, at its time, only a few people compared to todays number of people had consoles, and yet GTA IV showed that a gaming industry is big and even threaten a movies release(Iron Man). Today things are different, we have a larger number (3x) of people who have consoles, not only that but the Revenue that games have been raking in has become game-changing (If I may say so) in the Entertainment Industry. GTA IV Raked in $500 Million first week. MW2 $550 Million, Cod Black Ops $650 Million. GTA V= OMGWTFBBQ!!!! I personally think GTA V will not only beat GTA IV but it will also set new records for the gaming industry. I believe it could rake in over 800 Million first week. But since were talking about sales in copys, Id say it could also beat Cod Black Ops all time record of selling 7 Million first 24 hours. And since in most cases games sell in one week what they sold on their opening day + 50% we could very possible see GTA V sell over 10 Million Copies on their first week! Damn Im excited!

@AB0333 Its nice to see someone saying ''hella''. By any chance are you from Nor Cal? I mean we kinda invented that word. tounge2.gif

How did San Andreas outsell III and VC then? It was more of the same. Lots of new gameplay but lots of old too and very similar look to previous. Anticipation is not what makes a game successful. Duke Nukem Forever had anticipation. If the next GTA looks the same quality as Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire and plays just like GTA IV with some more features it will be wildly successful, as long as the map is great, the story is as good or better, and everything else is acceptably good.

I'd bet a used mountain bike it will sell 30million copies in 3 years. Especially if it gets onto Xbox 360, PS3, WiiU, PC, then Xbox 720, PS4.

Many of us would buy it twice.

A lot depends on what kind of game the next GTA is. I think that if it's in the same sort of more realistic vein as GTA IV it will sell a lot less. If it's in a real locale rather than a fictional one it will sell less than IV. If they re-hash a real version of LA it will sell a lot less.

People underestimate how many gamers out there were underwhelmed by GTA IV. I know that's not a popular opinion, but I'm not alone in preferring the III era GTA games.

If the game takes place in a fictional locale, brings back some humour and better satire, loses the sad endings and dreary setting...then it will outsell GTA IV.

They definitely should be able to squeeze more out of the consoles now. But I don't think that 20 million+ in sales is guaranteed. The game will have to impress more than just critics and die-hards. A LOT of people were let down by GTA IV.

I think thears a slight chance that GTA V will outsell every game thats relesed in that month and every game thats comed out for the last half year .

It will sell really well in my opinion... Maybe not reaching the dizzy heights of San Andreas, but I feel that it will sell alot of copies - most in that year.

10 million (which is blockbuster sales) is a given, IMO. But 20+? Not if the game resembles the seriousness of GTA IV.

Maybe for the 360. Wouldn't need 2 discs for PC or PS3. But I really don't know. GTA IV wasn't just a big map, it was really dense. Much more so than the map in GTA III, and much more than in San Andreas. Lots of buildings and dialogue in GTA IV.

Honestly it depends on how they design the map. Thing is that it's not like map in SA was bigger than in IV. It wasn't.

I know you might think this is OTT but what if R* can rake in $1 Billion in the first week if set in SA and VC but doubt it though. (just a thought)

Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter’s predicting stuff again, this time claiming Grand Theft Auto V could sell 24 million copies in its lifetime. We say, of course, no surprise there.

“We expect the next Grand Theft Auto to sell at least 18 million units, representing a 20% attach rate to the estimated 2011 year-end installed base of PS3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe. At this level, we estimate that Grand Theft Auto will generate at least $2.65/share in incremental EPS, making Take-Two’s forecast of ‘in excess’ of $2.00 per share in earnings during FY:13 easily attainable,” Pachter said in a note.

“Should the game sell 24 million units (in line with its historical attach rate), we expect contribution of more than $4.00 per share in incremental EPS. Importantly, the company has a history of providing conservative guidance, and without a GTA game in FY:13, we would not expect management to be so bold as to guide to earnings over $2.00.”

We have no idea when the game will be unveiled, far less released, so this is on the back burner for now.
