ryan_J
First Era Grand theft auto sold 1 million copies (Including the Grand theft auto london add-ons I think) Secon Era Grand theft auto 2 sold 2 million copies. Third Era Grand theft auto III sold 15 million copies. Grand theft auto VC sold 17.5 million copies. Grand theft auto advance sold 100,000 copies. Grand theft auto SA sold 22.5 million copies. (The biggest selling in the series) Grand theft auto LCS sold 10 million copies. Grand theft auto VCS sold 5 million copies. Fourth Era Grand theft auto IV sold 20 million+ copies. Grand theft auto IV TLAD sold 1 million+ copies. Grand theft auto CTW sold 200,000+ copies. Grand theft auto EFLB (including TBOGT) sold 160,000+ copies. So my question is how many copies will Grand theft auto V sell and will it takeover Grand theft auto SA in sales. I had to type this quick so notify me of any mistakes in sales numbers. + Means the game is still selling at a reasonably fast rate.
Gege
18-24 million, according to analyst Michael Pachter.

Staten
So my question is how many copies will Grand theft auto V sell and will it takeover Grand theft auto SA in sales. IV could still take over SA; SA has had 7 years to reach that number, and IV is already pretty close within 4.

Untame Snail
It will only sell one copy because only one will exist. That way they can earn more money when the bidding enters the trillions.

Machiavelli's Prophecy
Depends. If it's basically a San Andreas 2 it will definetly sell between 25-30 million.

darrellmonks
If its called GTA V it will sell 26-30 million. If its called gta: name of city then id say 20- 25 million. If its something named like lost and damned or gay tony then around 10-15 million. I personally want a new VC but id say a new SA will sell more. And theres a few million idiots out there (CoD players) that will just look at the game title and a few pictures and say "ahhh it should derp have like retarded sky diving and bland characters like sr3 and cod derp"

Magic_Al
105 million is the number of 360 and PS3 consoles ever sold. How many of those people like GTA? GTA:SA for PS2 sold 17.33 million copies and there were 150 million PS2 consoles ever sold, so that works out to a 11.55% attach rate. By that measure, GTA IV has a higher attach rate than San Andreas, unless more than 7.5% of GTA IVs sales are the PC version, which is highly unlikely given the PC version's relatively poor reception. The fact that San Andreas sold much more than GTA III or VC shows it does NOT require a new console generation to increase sales. The game just has to be better than the last one. Finn 7 five 11
18-24 million, according to analyst Michael Pachter. Look analysts just make estimates or guesses, if you have half a brain you can make your own. Patcher is wrong most the time i wouldn't bother with him Most of the time. GTA IV is still selling copies so that number will slowly increase, but i think it will see 20-27million. That is a very rough guess, to narrow it down, 23million. @Magic Al GTA SA sold almost 23mil not 17.5, (19mil ps2 sales +1 mil of trilogy pack sales, 2mil xbox and 1mil pc) you were a ways off. and GTA IV (including episodes sold 20mil PS3/Xbox + 1 mil PC). Magic_Al
23.71 million in about the first week. Reality check: GTA IV sold 3.6 million copies its first day (a world record at the time) and 6 million its first week. It took 4 months to reach 10 million. It took from August 2008 till March 2011 to sell another 10 million, most of them at a lower price than when it launched. The game that broke GTA IV's records, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, sold 4.7 million copies its first day and has 25 million "unique players" after 21 months on the market. If the next GTA can increase first-day sales records as much as CoD:MW did, it will sell 6 million its first day (equal to GTA IV's first week) and possibly have a first week of 10 million (equal to GTA IV's first four months). Because it takes years for a game to double its sales after it stops being new, a new console coming out within a couple years of the next GTA could reduce some of the later bargain-bin sales as people stop collecting games for the current gen. @Magic AlGTA SA sold almost 23mil not 17.5, (19mil ps2 sales +1 mil of trilogy pack sales, 2mil xbox and 1mil pc) you were a ways off. and GTA IV (including episodes sold 20mil PS3/Xbox + 1 mil PC). I said the 17.5 was PS2 only and that was based on the Guinness Book 2009 figure cited in Wikipedia and my baseless assumption that not a lot of PS2s have sold since then (I could be wrong). As I explained I was trying to figure out what percentage of all gamers buy GTA by estimating SA's attach rate on the platform it was first released on. Guinness may or may not have counted PS2 Trilogy packs in the their PS2 SA total, I don't know. Edited August 14, 2011 by Magic_Al

Staten
Because it takes years for a game to double its sales after it stops being new, a new console coming out within a couple years of the next GTA could reduce some of the later bargain-bin sales as people stop collecting games for the current gen. That effect would be reduced if the next generation has backwards compatibility for more than, like, two weeks or whatever it was (I'm talking to you, Sony). @AndrefromEstonia: Only if sales were catastrophically bad.
