matthew1g
My dad and I are going to buy an LED TV as well as surround speakers, So far the best TV I've found for the price is a 42" LG http://www.ultimate.com.mt/product_info.jsp?product=2542 which is €750 (an LED samsung 40" costs €850). I've been told that LG has crappy software on, but apart from picture adjustments I don't think I'll be using it much as I will only be using it to switch from HDMI sources. I also suggested we get this speaker system along with blu ray player http://www.astral.com.mt/site/catalog/prod...roducts_id=1776 I know it has 3D but We're frankly not interested as we can't afford to buy a matching 3D LED TV. Would this be a good combo? I'm liking the 5.1 as it can play mkv's *cough* Another thing which I have a question about is, will I be able to hook up a ps3 to that sound system? Wolf68k
Yeah don't worry about the 3D. The only input mentioned is AUX which usually means stereo RCA type connection. There is no digital audio input. So you can hook it up the 5.1 system and maybe even be able to make the sound come out of all of the speakers but you won't get the true surround sound from the console. If that's a big deal to you that site has one that's €100 more that has both coaxial and optical input, plus USB and Wifi and widgets so you can watch Netflix (which might not do you any good since you're not in the USA) and Youtube and more, and all through the unit itself. My problem with the TV is that I can't find that model number at all on LG's website. There is 42LE5400 and 42LE5350 but no 42LE5308 --- What I usually like to do is to go to the maker's website. Find the product(s) I'm interested in and if possible download the User Manual to see what it can really do and not just rely on the crap in the ad/display. Some times the ad/display is wrong, even on the maker's website, or it'll leave something out that it can do so when you're comparing it to another in the same line it'll seem like the cheaper can't do something the next one(s) up can when in fact it can. Also you'll get a better understanding of exactly what file formats it'll support. Example: My TV and HTS supports .mkv file but up to Level4.1 (that's the video codec not the number of speakers in the audio), so the when I tried to play one the other day that was encoded using Level5.1 it wouldn't play. Not a big deal since I planned to watch the videos on a computer anyway but there are times when it might have been nice. Just something to think about Edited August 14, 2011 by Wolf68k
Otter
I think you'll be be able to find a much better deal on the home-theatre-in-a-box. Look for clearance models. You may find something as low as half the price. Go with 1000 watt or more, depending on how high you're gonna crank that f*cker up. As for mkv, your TV may be able to play them via USB memory sticks. Ask about that as there's limited information provided by that link. I've got a similar Samsung model, and the built in media player is very useful. I used to run all streaming media off of my noisy PC.... no need for that anymore! Wolf68k
I still stream media on my PC but the nice thing about DLNA the PC can be any where in the house as long as the TV and PC are on the same network.
Finn 7 five 11
I would pick a Samsung over an LG and day of the week, Samsung really are a leading TV company. Also if you happen to get a Samsung tv you can get the Samsung Home-theatre and it works really well together. I am sure LG has something similar, but Samsung panels are very good in my experience.
