Slingaa
The longest flight I was on was from Manchester to Miami which took about 9 hours. I honestly slept the whole way with no problems.
Shayan Shaffey
There's nothing you can do about jet lag. To be honest, I don't usually get it when I fly over into the USA. Because the nearest time zone to the UK is about 8 hours behind if I'm not mistaken. So I usually get up around 6/7am US time and feel fine since my body thinks its about 2-4pm. Best thing to do, is just make sure you get enough sleep. Yeah, I haven't been getting Jet-lag until recently. Toilets: During the 18 hours I'll have to go to the toilet right? Problem is: I am kinda claustrophobic (fear of small spaces) so it's weird, does anyone else have a problem with plane toilets?

Rebel
Eh you get used to the small toilets. Although if your business class then they are probably going to be bigger (slightly) than economy class. Only thing I hate about the plane toilets is the flushing sound they make. Finn 7 five 11
What should I do if there is a whining baby or a kicking baby or adult behind/next to me? You're crammed inside aluminium can at 35,000 feet over the earth... there's nothing you can do. You could have easily just posted this in the have a question topic without all the pictures too. dis is wat u can doo Hahah, was your bad spelling intended to read like Schwarzenegger? Hey i spelled Schwarzenegger correctly! Shayan, must you use purple font its hard to read. Never really been on any long flights, so i would just suggest a book. NCONiall
18 hours? Ouch, the longest flight I've ever been on is 4 hours. There really is nothing to do in a plane, but you say this plane has internet access so you should be all good. I wouldn't worry too much about getting a seat kicker, if you do you could just move up to an empty seat(there's usually quite a few during midweeks). GTA_stu
I'm claustrophobic too, but I'm ok as long as I know I can get out quickly so toilets on planes/trains/buses don't bother me. I've been in an MRI scanner for 30 minutes and that was hell.

I was in it because my dad had an enlraged valve in his heart, which meant he needed a metal one. So they were checking to see if it was the same for me too. So because they were doing my chest I had this thing pressing down on me making it harder to breathe, which made it worse. They sit you on a bed strecther thing then send you into the tunnel. I'd recommend closing your eyes and keeping them shut if you are claustrophobic, because the tunnel is really small and only inches away from your face. After the first 5 mins it's alright though once you get used to it. The thing is really noisy as well, so they give you headphones so you can listen to the radio or some music. They let you take in a CD.
4 Bagger
18 hours? Ha! The longest flight i've ever had is about 4 and a half hours which I have done about 3 times. (Manchester to Canaries) Not much more to say than all the other guys already have.

Ronnyboy
I've never had the misfortune of a long flight across water, but the worst was 5 hours in an airport, 30 min on the tarmac, and then a 2.5 hour long flight to Florida. That was hell.
Icarus
30 min on the tarmac, and then a 2.5 hour long flight to Florida That reminds me of when I was heading to Europe in May. We landed in Chicago and then had to catch a flight to Newark and then catch the last plane to Lisbon. Anyways, we had a three hour wait in Newark, so plenty of time to get there. We get on the plane at O'Hare and it was 30 minutes behind schedule since we were waiting for the pilots to fly in from Houston. They get on and we start to taxi and then sit on the runway for about 30 minutes before heading back to the gate; apparently there was a mechanical issue, so for the next two hours they fixed that and we were finally on our way. So that was three hours - the time of the layover we had in Newark. Anyways, we land in Newark at 1935 and the flight to Lisbon leaves at 2000 so my friend and I run to the other side of Newark Liberty International and when we get there, there's a huge line-up coming from the gate since the boarding of the aircraft was a little slow. Definitely had me worried we were going to miss our flight.
JoeyLeone25
I flew my life's longest flights a few weeks back - continuation flights from Helsinki to JFK by Keflavik (Iceland) - and the first 3 hours were bearable, but the 9 hour part from Iceland to New York was purely agonizing. And, of course, when we were flying back, from NYC to Iceland, there was this 9-year old Icelandic kid sitting behind me, kicking the chair and speaking Iceland (which sounds pretty similar to the sounds I'd believe an infant squirrel would be making if someone was pushing a torch down it's asshole). The flight company was kick-ass, though. They had a touch-screen TV with a lot of movies and TV shows on it, games, music, stuff like that. Something I'd call the answer to one's prayers on a long flight. LOL, I wish they have some quizzes on the ICE (The name Emirates gives their entertainment system on the flight) I know Delta's modern internal US flights have the in-flight entertainment systems, and the quiz games they harbour are bloody good fun! On the way back from Las Vegas to Atlanta last year, we had the seat-back entertainment on every seat and despite channels of nothingness there was this little in-flight quiz game, which not only allowed you to compete against your fellow passengers, but it also gave you their seat numbers. To cut a long story I played for a while and started chatting to the bloke to my left and one just a little in front of us who I had been competing against, one was a 60-ish year-old grandfather from Florida and the other was a stock broker from New York. Anyway the game starting to get boring relatively quickly as it ended up being just us three playing so the grandfather came up with an ingenious plan, we all throw twenty dollars into the pot, the person to win the first ten quizzes takes everything (later knocked down to five due to time/boredom constraints). Forty or so minutes later, and a hell of a lot of State-related questions (obviously everybody knows the former state flag of Rhode Island...), and I'm twenty bucks (see, I was becoming Americanized at this point) down and out with the stock stoker. Ah well, it was only a game I thought, until the grandfather summons us over, he buys six beers off the stewardess (with what used to be our money!), asks the bloke next to the stock broker (directly to my left, I was middle aisle seat, broker was left aisle seat) if he minds swapping seats and for the next hour or so the flight went smoothly as he told us some 'crazy' stories about his youth including the first time he got drunk at...eleven years old! Best advice for long flights (which mine wasn't); Make friends. You could spend all flight on the internet, or you could find out the life story of the guy next to you. Jay
I have a pair of noise cancelling headphones, and I wear them for the entire flight whether or not I have music on. The amount of noise in a plane cabin is quite obvious when you take them off for a meal. Also, stay awake for as long as possible before the flight, and sleep for as long as you can while on it. Spending so much time in an airport makes you want to blow your own brains out. Literally. !
visionist
If you see a hot girl by herself before you board, be sure to make friends and sit together on the flight. There's nowhere she can run off to aloft, and she shouldn't get a phone signal, so she'll be all yours for the duration. Be aware of flight crew if taking her to a toilet for some Mile Hi-Jinks, as they usually take sternly to it. My longest flight was only 11 hours London-Orlando, and I was seated with asshole classmates I hated, so I indulged in movies on the TV. It was great, but forty minutes before touchdown the TVs went dark, so I missed the final 20 minutes of The Departed and had to wait 7 months to find out how it ended. When I got back, IV's first trailer had just released. Good times.
ryan_J
My longest flight was a solid 20hours 30mins from london to dominica (not dominican republic), there was delays we spent an hour on the tarmac and the turbulance was the worst ever at one point they was going to turn the plane around, Oh and we nearly hit a fuel truck parked on the runway while land, The holiday was the best experiance of my life though. Seen as they estimate it to be a 14 hour flight, that's quite long. It was 21 hours all together because the main flight went only to antigua as dominica has only one airport and its not big enough for Boeing 747s, Boeng 737s or any other mainstream jet powered passenger aircraft. The delays were ridiculous.
