Flesh-n-Bone
Okay, I'm no rookie with GTA III or any other games from this era and have been playing them for years. Yet I can't believe only yesterday I came to a point where it seemed like Claude actually said something after a decade of the game's original release date. It may not have been him but it sure sounded like he was the guy that spoke. So I stole some poor guy's car to save in Portland. As Claude pulled out the driver, I heard the words "Go ride the bus" uttered in a calm tone and it sure as hell didn't sound like the guy that got jacked (he's fat and has a blue and white stripped t-shirt) as he screamed in a very different tone, running away after I got in the car. There was no action going on nearby and no gang is hostile to me yet, so I don't think anybody nearby said it. It caught me by surprise and I never thought I'd suspect Claude to utter a single word. I can't confirm this for sure, but I'll try it again later when I play. If the version matters, then this is my version with this exact cover. MyDog
That's interesting. Maybe that was a pedestrian speaking?
cidamelo
Oh this is interesting!! Can you keep playing and record a video and see if it happens again? I've never heard Claude speaking, only moaning when he hurts
stef_92
I'm 100% sure that this was not Claude. He absolutely doesn't speak in the game. You probbably heard some of the peds saying something simmilar to this. Believe me, I have checked all sounds in the SFX archive and there's nothing that could be Claude's speech. Are you on PC or PS2? It could have easily been a leftover from the original intended game that remained in the PS2 version but removed from PC version and I happened to hear it. The voice was deep and calm, pretty much somewhere between the voices of Tommy Vercetti and Toni Cipriani in LCS. Not easy and clear enough, yet easy to hear. As we speak, it's that time of the day again so I'm off to turn on my PS2 and play some more GTA 3. I'll try carjacking the same ped a few times and listen carefully if the same word is heard. The peds always have a more high pitched voice and there's no reason for any of them to tell someone else to ride a bus.
nightwalker83
I don't think it was Claude because I think I read somewhere he is missing his tongue, it was removed by some of Claude's criminal buddies.

HAHAHAHA! WTF are you talking about. This is UNtrue I haven't heard such bullsh**. Where could anyone get such information @Flesh-n-Bone : I am using the PC version. Anyway there couldn't be any leftovers from previous recording because there weren't recorded any vocals for Claude. What I mean is - he was not supposed to speak even when Rockstar started the creation of GTA 3.

Filip
"The voice was deep and calm, pretty much somewhere between the voices of Tommy Vercetti and Toni Cipriani in LCS." I have GTA 3 for ps2 and xbox and I can say that is ped. But if you will prove it or something - just record some video orr.. I don't know. But I'm pretty shure it was a ped. But I'm unsure, because that's a copy which was released under DMA logo, so there will be more leftovers that I can imagine
Flesh-n-Bone
This seems really hard to catch again, yesterday I carjacked a good number of people with total silence. Hell, I could have been imagining that voice in my head for all I know, it was at 4 AM and I was really tired. So I can't say I can hear it again, but I will try some more cause this is very interesting. Just wish a veteran gamer from way back when the game came out with the same copy can try the same. lol232
I don't think it was Claude because I think I read somewhere he is missing his tongue, it was removed by some of Claude's criminal buddies. Lol, Claude didn't talk in GTA San Andreas neither, so It might be true if that was a glitch. Because Ps2 has some leftovers, and game accidentally loaded it... You are not lying, there are bugs in-game that if Something was removed it might mistakenly load it, usually if game runned for long time, or sometimes just when it's started straight away, Like Lightless Taxi, Lightless Cabbie.. I had GTA Vice City running for 4 days, and it Didn't turn it off, and once I was playing, I found tons of Lightless Taxi's, Cabbie's, Kaufman Cab's... I found one Lightless Zebra. Also, When I was driving a Cheetah too fast, instead of loading original, it loaded Beta Cop car (well, it was kinda light grey, darker colour then on beta pics), just 2 sec after I jacked it, it turned back to normal, Might be possible that that was the ped, but, I have no Idea, try doing it again, try recording it, it might happen. Again, try running GTA 3 turned on on PS2, for few days, then try jacking a car or something. Edited August 16, 2011 by lol232
CutToSleep
And if he hasn't got a tongue there wont be moaning when he falls neither. I think a man can moan without a tongue, as long as his vocal cords are intact.

He has tongue, he also talks in GTA 2...
CutToSleep
Well, it's not completely clear whether Claudes from GTA2 and GTA3 are the same person.

lol232
They are not. Claude from GTA III is just based on Claude Speed from GTA 2. They are. Like Claude Speed. (The User) said, in What GTA Character are you by Rockstar quiz. He is he same person, because if you become Claude, it will say Claude Speed, + it will be showed Artowrk of CS, also Catalina calls him Claude in GTA SA. He is the same person. I'll even ask Rockstar for proof.
Wercury
If he was the same person, Rockstar would've made it a lot more clear. They would've put tons of hints and big references throughout GTA III. Oh my God we're going into that subject again. ON-TOPIC: Yeah, probably the driver just wants Claude to take a bus. If I'm not mistaken, I've heard an NPC say that once, but I'm not sure.
fireguy109
He is simply "the protagonist." He has no name. In beta, you could assign a name to him. If you chose to enter a blank space or something it would have to default to some name. They chose "Claude" for that name because it was the same NAME as their last guy. The protagonist in the final version is not the Claude from GTA 2.
Flesh-n-Bone
Just finished the game for the first time in a couple of years yesterday and after I posted the topic, I never heard anything again that could be Claude's voice. But I am pretty sure that it's not the guy I jacked who said the ride the bus line, his voice is a lot more high pitched, the voice saying it was deep, like a stylish mob boss. And I did it below the train tracks by the water not far from the safehouse in Portland.
