alexeilb
I just built my self a computer, I over clocked my Athlon 2 x4 to 3.2ghz, I have 8gb ram, 2gb Nvidia GTX560. I updated GTA 4 to 1.0.7.0 and have the following mods. 1. ICEnhancer 1.25 2. More Liberty 3. City Cars Mod Pack v1.1 4. Traffic Fix, Taxi Bug 5. First Person Mod So far the game runs very smooth everything maxed out 1440x900 resolution, over 40fps even with heavy traffic. I will play for about 20 min and it will randomly stop working and kicks me off. I get a message stating GTA 4 has stopped working, checking for solution. It will crash at most random moments, it does not have to be during heavy traffic either. I looked all over the place but everyone seams to have different reasons. I try to trouble shoot it, removed all the mods to see if they were the culprit, but no even with mods removed it will crash. The only thing I have not tested yet is to turn down everything to the lowest setting and see what happens. Other things I have tried was to run the game as Administrator. If you have any other solutions that you may want to share please do. I really want to play this game without having to restart every 15-20 min, sometimes even less. Thank you. Post in one of these forums http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showforum=250 Its not a modding issue, I did uninstall all mods. The issue is that the game will crash randomly. alexeilb
Where did the game come from? Its a steam version, if that's what your asking. I just tested it with lower settings, still crashed. I was sitting on a roof top with my rifle so not too many vehicles.
YankeesPwnMets
Right click the game in Steam, hit Properties, press the Local Files tab, and press "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" This should completely restore IV to it's unmodified state

What is it with you? You appear to be completely against mods or something, completely ignoring the question I have asked. Its not the mods that are causing the game to crash, its not my hardware, its something to do with GTA 4. I asked on here thinking someone might know this issue, and ways to solve it. Because mods are what usually cause issues like these (particularly ENB / icenhancer). Make sure d3d9.dll isn't present in your game directory and try again. If it is, then you obviously havent uninstalled all your mods properly. Ensure you aren't forcing anything via your graphics card control panel or programs such as D3DOverrider/xfire. Its not the mods that are causing the game to crash, its not my hardware, its something to do with GTA 4. I asked on here thinking someone might know this issue, and ways to solve it. What is it with you? I'm trying to eliminate every possible cause of the issue. Have you ever heard of the "process of elimination?" My game had issues with freezing with mods installed, so I got rid of them and the issue was solved. I'm thinking the mods might be a possible cause for your issue. The way I try to help and solve issues is by thinking back to who else had the same issue and what their solutions were. I'm not calling modders incompetent or pathetic, but a lot of the time, mods are usually the thing that causes the issues with the game. You can always back up your modded files to restore them if you really want them. This is just a case where you are being too god damn stubborn to try anything. Give that attitude to me, I don't give two sh*ts. I'm not even going to bother trying to help you anymore. And here is something very well put by mkey82, who is a highly respected member here Due to the nature of modding, which involves using various files from many unrelated sources in (probably) unique conditions, people who are trying to fix issues in this section simply can't know what may have gone wrong:- is the mod aimed at some other game version - is the mod version dated - is the mod functional - does the mod have some dependencies - has the mod been properly installed - has some error occurred during some (other) mod removal - does the mod maybe have some outstanding issues with some other mod - has some archive been corrupted during the download/upload process As you can obviously see, there are far too many variables here to have any chance at troubleshooting successfully. At the core of every troubleshooting process is removal of sources of as many probable causes as possible before the real issues shows its face. What can you do?
