It is the largest city in the Midwest and the third largest in the US behind Liberty City and Los Santos respectively, with a population of nearly 2.7 million people. It was first settled in the 17th Century by marijuana smugglers. Crime was very prevalent in Ventoso during the early 20th Century. At that stage, Ventoso was practically run by the notorious crime lord Al Camone (Al Capone), who corrupted police and government for his own benefit and who was in rivalry with the Irish American Mob, led by the ruthless Irish Polish American George 'Mugs' Doran (George 'Bugs' Moran). Camone's and Doran's legacies, the 'Ventoso Outfit' and the Irish American mob are still prevalent in the city just not to the same scale. Nowadays, both gangs have a rocky relationship although at the time being they are in a truce. They will be discussed in more detail further down the page. Today, the city is a major hub for industry, telecommunications and infrastructure, with O' Hara International Airport (O' Hare International Airport) being the second busiest airport in the world.There are many major landmarks in Ventoso, such as Chicago Tower (Sears Tower). It is also a huge comingling of different ethnic cultures with a big population of Irish Americans, Polish Americans, African Americans, German Americans and Russians with many of these ehtnic groups involved in the organised crime industry. Carcer City Carcer City Carcer City (based on Detroit, Michigan), is the most crime prevalent city in the US. With a population of 700, 000, it was first settled in the late 18th Century by a French explorer between the Lake Ery and Lake Huron. Such is the crime rate in Carcer, that 70 in every 1,000 residents are victims of a criminal offence. Drugs are a common cause of death with 65-70 of deaths being crime related. In addition, 70% of murders are unsolved. Despite many attempts to reduce this rate, such as urban renewal schemes, crime is still very prevalent in Carcer. The main centres for crime are the Irish, Greek, Arab, Polish, Mexican, and African American boroughs. Carcer is also nicknamed the 'Automobile City' because it is the home to many famous brands such as the famous General Autos, makers of cars such as the Esperanto, Lokus, Feltzer and Sentinel. Cars, Pay n'Sprays, Car Washes and Car Modding will be 40% in Carcer. Gambling is also legal in Carcer and there are many famous casinos such as Caligula's Windsor (Caesars' Window), Greektown Casino and the Auto City Casino (Motor City Casino). Brian was an average student at school and he was generally well behaved.Brian's father, Michael or 'Mike' was a second generation Irish American who worked in the fire department in Ventoso. Michael was a quiet man and met his wife Linda, who was a first generation Irish American when he was 25. A year later, he had a serious injury to his arm and was forced to leave the fire department and to never run. The McCaffreys then fell into severe financial difficulty. Linda took up a job at a dry cleaners but it was not enough to keep a child going. Out of desperation, Mike was forced to accept a lucrative offer to become a capo for the Irish Mob to whom he was related. One day in 1996, when Brian was 11, he came home early and saw his father give a man two bullets, one in each knee cap and left him for dead. Brian rushed in and called the ambulance, saving the man. The same year, Mike was shot dead. Linda then got a good job as a secretary at a hospital. After, Brian's grades started to slip and became very troublesome, regularly getting suspended and at the age of 17 he got his girlfriend Marnie Allen pregnant (their baby was put up for adoption). Neither Brian nor his mother ever discussed Michael's activities with Kate. A the age of 18, Brian was sentenced to 9 years in prison in Carcer for the possession of cocaine. Brian learnt a lot about life in prison and after was not as troublesome. It is 2012. Brian has just been released from prison and Linda has recently lost her job and cannot pay off her mortgage to her bank. She is in fear of losing her house and Brian, now 27, cannot get a job to finance her because of his past. Kate does send money home but it does not suffice. Therefore, Brian could not refuse an offer to work as a capo for the Irish mob despite his mothers pleas. Linda McCaffrey Linda McCaffrey Brian's Mother Linda McCaffrey plays the part of Brian's mother. She was born in rural Ireland in the year 1951. Linda grew up in a family of 11 and did not get much of an education because of her familys lack of wealth. Linda moved to Carcer at the age of 20 to pursue a life in America, a dream she had always had. She had no qualifications and worked in a bar, The Celtic cleaning dishes and serving drinks as a waitress. She also had a jib at a dry cleaners. Linda had always dreamed of making it big but it never really panned out. She met her husband Mike in 1974 when she was 23. He was in her pub at the time with his work colleagues from the fire department and they immediately hit off. Mike at the time was a very quiet man. They married shortly after and Linda lost her job at the pub because she wouldnt give her boss a blowjob. One year later, Mike also had to leave his job at the fire department because of a work injury. The McCaffreys then fell into severe debt and Mike was forced to go into a career of organised crime with the Irish Mob. Crime made him very aggressive and he started to beat Linda. Linda had two children, Brian in 1985 and Kate in 1990. Mike was killed in 1996. Linda often visited Brian in jail and payed all his lawyers fees. After the recession struck in 2007, Linda could no longer pay of her bills to the bank. She had to take out big loans to pay off her bills. Kate, who works as a nurse, sent home enough money as possible but it does not suffice. Brian now has to carry out criminal work to keep her home although she is strongly against it. Linda has severe breast cancer because of her stress and dies halfway through the game. The debt is then passed on to Brian and her house can be used as a safehouse. Marnie Allen Marnie Allen Possible Story Girlfriend Marnie Allen was born in 1987 in Ventoso to a wealthy family. Marnie was always a good friend of Brian's in high school through the bad times and the good. Marnie excelled at school, she had a dream of performing at Star Junction, Liberty City. She always had a lot of boys after her including Brian. She was a cheerleader at school during which time she was dating Brian although she was two years his younger. There was always chemsitry between Marnie and Brian. Marnie was the perfect daughter until the age of 15 when Marnie got pregnant by Brian which led to her father, who was a doctor, leaving her mother. Marnie felt very guilty because of that and in 2005, at the age of 18 she left Ventoso to pursue her dream in Liberty City. In Liberty City, she met a drug dealer and pimp called Joseph Kaplan, who promised to help her pursue her dream if she made an internet porn video for him. Kaplan never held up his end of the deal, however. He quickly had her addicted to heroin taking 2 bags of heroin/ day which were bought from him. Soon, she started working as a prostitute for Kaplan to pay off her debts to him. From then on, she turned to panhandling to support a 5 bags of heroin/ day habit. She was arrested 3 times, twice in 2006 an once in 2007 for petty theft, prostitution and the possession of heroin, refusing to enter rehab the third time and being left back out onto the street. In 2008, she met one Niko Bellic who helped her leave Liberty City and return to Ventoso. Marnie returned home and attended college to study psychology, continuing the close relationship she had with Brian. Marnie, however, soon goes back to taking heroin and drops out of college. She needs Brian's help to take down a drug dealer to whom she owes a lot of money, kill her step father so her parents can get back together and help get her life back together. Gangs In Ventoso and Lake, gangs compete for territory or ''turf''. Turf is what classifies gangs in terms of power. The more turf you have, the more powerful you are. In Ventoso, the major players in the organised crime industry are the Italian Mafia, Russians mafia and the Irish mob. There is also the Polish mob and various African American gangs but they are relatively small-time. While in Carcer, the major players are the Mexican gangs, African American gangs, Arab gangs and Irish mob while the polish and Greek gangs play a small role in fighting for turf. The two main gangs in Carcer and Ventoso, however are the Irish Mob and The Ventoso Outfit. The Outfit The Outfit is a mafia gang which has roots dating back to the early 20th century when it was found by the infamous Al Camone. During the early 19th Century, The Outfit was regarded as the most powerful mob in the US. However, today their power is largely confined to the Midwest. The families current membership stands at 50-200 made men and 1,000+ associates. It has satellite families in Los Santos, Lake and las Venturas and is a member of the Commision, which was mentioned in gta iv. In 2005, an inquest known as the ''Family Secrets'' trial taken by the government into 15 unsolved murders led to the arrest of 13 of its members. Key Members Salvatore Lombardi Boss Salvatore Lombardi Snr. is the 83 year old alleged Don of the Ventoso Outfit. Giuseppe was born in Bari, Itlay in 1929 and moved to Ventoso when he was 3 years old. He was one of 11 children born to Mike and Carmel Lombardo. The Lombardo's were considered poor in Ventoso. His father Mike ran a butcher shop but was not too successful while his mother Carmel stayed at home to take care of her 11 children. At some stage, Salvatore changed his surname from Lombardo to Lombardi. Salvatore joined the Outfit in the 1950s. At first, he was a jewel thief and a loan shark. He was charged with kidnapping and loan sharking in 1963 but was acquited because a factory worker who owed him $2,000 would not identify him. This was Lombardi's 11th of 11 arrests. In 1964, Salvatore married his wife Helena with whom he had one son, Anthony. Salvatore started to move up the ranks of the Outfit in the late 1960s. The Outfit trusted Lombardi and in 1971, he took over the Outfit's faction in Las Venturas. Lombardi managed many strip casinos for the Outfit in Las Venturas. In 1974, Lombardi was finally charged with stealing $1.4 million from a pension fund. However, he escaped charges after the main witness was found dead in a bag in his booth two days before he was scheduled to appear in court to testify against Lombardi. That same year, he was implicated by a VCPD informant of the murders of the witness as well as 4 other men over a 15 month period. He was also accused of murdering a disgraced police officer, Archie Cain, who was a police informant but switched allegiance to be with Lombardi and the Outfit. Lombardi, because of his crafty personality, somehow managed to escape all charges. Lombardi finally served time behind bars in 1982. He was charged with the extortion of $800,000 from a construction owner and the attempted bribery of a US Senator to stop or at delay legislation regarding the regulating of the trucking industry. Lombardi was released from prison in 1997. In 2003, Lombardi was convicted along with 13 other members of the Outfit. He was convicted of being involved in one of the murders as well as for illegal gambling and loan sharking. FIB agents swarmed his machine shop looking for hand prints and linking them with him. However, when the FIB started to round up the suspects in the trial, they found that Salvatore had disappeared and become a fugitive.While Lombardi's whereabouts were unknown, he often sent letters to his son Anthony who is a lawyer saying that he was innocent and he would take a lie detector to prove it. The FIB then offered a reward of $20,000 for information on his whereabouts. In 2004, Lombardi was found in the Italian neighbourhood of Oakwood Park at a dental appointment with his brother's dentist. During the trial, Lombardi was sentenced to 7 years in prison at which the courtroom was outraged. John Di LorenzoBoss Johnny “Bananas” Di Lorenzo is the 82 year old Boss of the Ventoso Outfit. Di Lorenzo shares leadership of the Outfit with close friend Salvatore LombardiDi Lorenzo was born in 1930 in the predominently Italian neighbourhood of Elmwood Park in Ventoso. He is a well known name in the drugs world and is heavily addicted to heroin. In typical aspiring criminal fashion Vincent had a childhood and early adolescence filled with mischief and run ins with the law. His criminal record began in 1949 when he was 19. Becoming further inlvolved in organised crime, Di Lorenzo was a suspect in the 1953 unsolved murder of a politician from Lake who had suspected ties to organised crime. He was a member of a loansharking gang in 1964 with two former members of the VCPD. He was later promoted by the then leader from caporegime and enforcer to boss of the Outfit in western Ventoso. Eventually he became leader of the whole outfit. He was convicted of racketeering charges in 1994, however, the conviction was reversed and he was released in 1995.In 2009, he and his brother were arrested for extortion. In total, Di Lorenzo has more than two dozen convictions. Di Lorenzo avoided the Family Secrets trial in 2005. Di Lorenzo runs a car dealership in Carcer selling Auto Motor cars. Vincenzo CapraCaporegime Vincenzo 'Vincent' Capra the Underboss for the Outfit and Boss of their Carcer faction. Vincent was very smart at school but was never allowed to excel because his father often kept him from school. Growing up north Ventoso, Vincent was surrounded by crime because his father was a caporegime for the Outfit.He was first made a made men while he was in his teens because of his name. After Vincent was made a made man, he was taken under the wing of Johnny Di Lorenzo. Anthony learnt a lot about drug dealing under Johnny, a practice he has become very good at. Anthony was smart and did not get addicted to heroin. Vincent was arrested in 1983 for importing drugs into the country from a contact in Colombia. He served 15 in prison for his actions. In prison, Vincent finally got a chance to learn and passed his examinations and qualified as a lawyer. After his release in 1998, Vincent became a lawyer. Most of the time he served for the Outfit in court cases but he also served for non-criminals. He managed to balance a life of crime and life as a lawyer. in 2005, Vincent was suspected for extortion and risked losing his job. Despite the witness not testying against him, Anthony and other members of the Outfit cut the witnesses body up and dumped it in the sea never to be seen again. Vincent did manage to escape conviction but lost his job as a lawyer. During the Family Secrets Trial, Vincent managed to avoid conviction. Vincent now runs an Italian restaurant in Ventoso and is reasonably successful. Irish Mob Like the Outfit, the Irish Mob has roots dating back to the early 20th Century. They were first founded by George ''Mugs'' Doran, an Irish criminal who moved to Ventoso. The Irish mob ruled the South Side of Ventoso until the Thanksgiving Day massacre when many of their men were killed by arch enemies the Outfit. Key Members Gerald GillighanBoss Gerald Gillighan was born into a poor family in Monaghon, Ireland in the year 1960. His father, Jim was an alcoholic who spent most of his time at a bar in Monaghan. He would come all bruised after a drunken fight often and take his anger out on Gerald and Gerald's mother Sandra. This had a profound effect on young Gerald who sought refuge in drugs and cigarettes from an early age. Gerald fought in the Troubles from an early age going around with men who were a lot older than him killing innocent people. Gillighan's criminal record began at 16 when he was caught for the possession of 2 counts of cannabis and illegal cigarettes. Gerald then fled to Alderney, America to escape incarceration. However, in America, he was again caught and sentenced to 10 years at Alderney State Penetenary. After release from prison in 1973, Gillighan moved to Ventoso where he had cousins in the Irish mob. At first Gillighan worked as a caporegime. He was involved in the war with the Outfit and killed the Outfit's previous boss Jim Carlisli. This really helped his reputation and only shortly after moving to Ventoso, he had become Underboss to Billy Halloran. One year later, a civil war within the mob that almost saw them spit saw Gillighan take over Keohane and become Boss. Gerald was again arrested in 1978 an sentenced to 5 years for threatening a police officer. In 1999, Gillighan was again arrested for the famous killing of John Di Lorenzo's niece Veronica Di Lorenzo. Veronica worked for the Tribune in Carcer at the time and had no involvement in the crime world. One day, she was on her way home from work and she was shot dead in a drive by shooting by a capo for the Irish Mob, something the Irish mob have perfected. This proved to be a wrong move for Gillighan as it sparked public outrage as well as a huge war between them and the Outfit who they were then in truce with. Gillighan was sentenced to 10 years in prison and released in 2009. Gillighan has always made a lot of money from the drugs trade. It is estimated that he is worth over $10 million. Gillighan himself is addicted to cocine, most of which he imports from Ireland. He once told a detective during an interrogation in Alderney: ''I f*cking rule the drugs world boy'' giving the detective his gold plated watch. ''This watch'' he added in a strong Irish accent'' is worth more than you ould earn in a year.'' Sean McInernyUnderboss Sean ''Seanie'' McInerny was born in Carcer in the year 1967. Seanie's mother worked as a stripper in Honkers gentleman's club in Carcer and also secretly worked as a prostitute. Seanie never knew his father and his mother never had time to spend time with or to rare him. He hardly ever turned up for school and was raised on the streets, making him very streetwise at an early age. During Seanie's teenage years, he got a job as a barman at his mother's strip club. He would often entertain the other strippers, with his good sense of humour and his comedy routines, earning him a reputation of a joker, partier and a ladies man. However, Seanie started to mix with pimps and drug pushers through the strip club and gradually started to get involved in crime becoming a pimp himself. In 1985, at the age of 18, he was approached by Gerald Gillighan who offered him a job as a soldier for the Irish mob. Through his work with Gillighan, Seanie learnt a lot about drug dealing. He was considered an ''up and comer'' in the mob.He was involved in most of the mob's drug operations and was soon promoted to caporegime. Seanie soon started to become one of the most important people in the underworld and was very friendly with Gerald Gillighan. In 1999, McInerny was the man who killed Veronica Di Lorenzo, an innocent reporter for the Carcer Tribune and and niece to John Di Lorenzo in a drive-by-shooting. That proved to be a very bad move for McInerny as the public became outraged and McInerny was convicted of her murder. Seanie then went on the run and became heavily addicted to alcohol, cocaine making him very aggressive, volatile and persuasive. He was found in Vice City and was taken back to Carcer where he spent 8 years behind bars. After, his release, McInerny became very wealthy from cocaine dealing and bought out Honkers Strip Club as well as a mansion in Ventoso. While Gillighan was in prison, he assumed his role as boss of the gang and became Underboss when he was released. Aiden DriscollCaporegime Aiden Driscoll was born in Ventoso City in the year 1988. Aiden was born into hierarchy being the cousin of the protagonist Brian McCaffrey on one side and the only nephew of Seanie McInerny on the other. When Aiden's father died Seanie acted as a father figure for him and took him under hiis wing. From a very early age, Aiden was doing work for the Mob rigging cars with bombs and dealing drugs. He was involved in the death of Veronica Di Lorenzo in 1999 but he was acquited of his ageBeing very witty and ambitious, Seanie liked Aiden and saw a lot of promise in him. Aiden does have a problem with alcohol though. From the age of 14,he would come home very drunk. Despite his drinking problem, Aiden kept his reputation as an ''up and comer''. In 2006, Aiden was made caporegime for the mob for his 18th birthday. It is believed that he will be the boss of the mob in the future. Aiden is a regular in the nightclub scene in Carcer and Ventoso. He is also a good friend of Brian and can be taken out as a Friend. Other Characters -Andriy Kevchenko Born in Ukraine, Andriy moves to Ventoso from Liberty City where he was a connection with the Russian Mafia. As the game moves on it is revealed that Andriy is very light hearted, confident and considers himself to be a lot more powerful than he actually is. Andriy runs a taxi business and can be taken out as a Friend. Andriy becomes a member of the Russian Mafia in Ventoso. Brian can do taxi work for him. -Jayvon Campbridge Jayvon is a drug dealer from Liberty City and current leader of his gang in Ventoso. Despite being a hardcore drug dealer, Jayvon is very honest and shows a very sensitive side to himself. He runs a garage in Carcer. The player can take stolen cars there to be sold and he will bring cars to you for free (you cant sell his cars back to him). -Mohammed Nassar Located in Carcer, Mohammed is a light hearted Saudi Arabian who can be taken out as a friend. Nassar is a regular in the nightclub scene and is introduced to Brian through Aiden Driscoll. -Jason Robinson Jason is a White American Iraq war veteran avid motorcycle enthusiast with access to a large cache of weapons. Jason will be introduced to Brian quite early on an from then will become his own personal arms dealer. He will sell the weapons above at discount rates.
