NeedForSpeedXP
When will the world end? When Chuck Norris says so. No but in all seriousness no one knows when the world will end and no one knows how it will end. It could end via a nuclear war, an asteriod impact, global warming, alien invasion, world wide viral outbreak, whatever. Although some ideas are more realistic than others say when our Sun finally comes to an end or when the next "Supervolcano" erupts and sends us back into another ice age. Really hope there won't be another Ice Age. Second, the earth could end by Volcanic Erruption A giant metior
Killer783
Probably going to end when the sun explodes which might estimate in about over a trillion years or so. Or when humanity decides to go mad and corrupt.

NeedForSpeedXP
Or when humanity decides to go mad and corrupt. I think it would be that, and that would proberly be in a million years. When the Sun decides to explode and destroy the planet. I defently think that too.

NeedForSpeedXP
The world will end for me when i'm dead, not before...cause when i'm dead there is nothing. Obviously, it means the world has ended then. This. Good job derailing this to a topic about religion. Anyway, never, we'll invent something. Man might, or man might not. We don't really know. NaidRaida
I do not believe in too wicked theories like "Apocalypse on 21/12/2012!". I do not believe in alien invasion theories cause if we would met real aliens like that they´re coming in an spaceship and visit us I expect them to be intelligent enough to not immediately kill and destroy everything. Nuclear war is possible, but it won´t be the end of all humans I guess and also not the end of the "world". Considering the world as the universe I think it´s not supposed to end at all (expand-contract theory). The end of the world we know is pretty much explored: One end could be a destruction of the planet due to major collision with another object from space. This is only a possibility that may or may not happen. This will definately happen, no matter what happened before: The sun will become a red giant and will expand until all inner cricle planets (Mars, Venus, Mercure, Earth) are completely covered and just melted away completely. If nothing unusual happens, this will be the end of the world (the earth). If humans still exists, they will not be able to see this cause the planet would have been devastated way before it come to a melt down due to the dramatically increasing temperatures. temeratures will jump to several thousand degrees until the sun finally swallow or cross the earths orbit. Otter
We will become a post physical species before the sun dies, and we'll have the technology by then to endure that. So, if by 'world' you mean 'the human world' (we'll be far beyond Earth - or mortality, even) I don't seen an end in sight. I think we've got a far greater chance of cheating death before we happen upon anything that can utterly destroy us. sh*t, we've only been around for a handful hundred thousand years. We haven't even started.

NaidRaida
I would be surprised if the human species would live longer than it´s home planet. I don´t see a chance to leave the earth if there would be a reason to do so. With todays society and way of living by every of us we will not manage to settle to a new planet if this one dies. I´m dreaming of some kind of "Star Trek mentality". I mean like "Forget about the money - just live and act to achieve progress for the mankind". Without such an attitude of living, I don´t expect major differences in the human life in future.
Cheat
For us (the mankind), the world will end a long, long time before our sun dies, and that's a fact - when the sun starts to turn into a red giant, it'll swallow Venus and Mercury and burn the Earth to sh*t, and we'll be dead by that. I personally don't believe that the mankind will destroy itself (f.e nuclear war) but things like war, famine, overpopulation and the greenhouse effect are going to suffocate us, torture us, kill us - but not cause extinction - and drive us into feuds, riots and mass deaths until Mother Nature does her job and finally kills us, bringing us back into the red giant part, and this is the psychological and scientific explanation for apocalypse, imo. El Zilcho
We will become a post physical species before the sun dies, and we'll have the technology by then to endure that. I find those predictions somewhat ridiculous. I know our rate of growth in recent time has been exponential and dramatic, but I could imagine that even millions of years in the future living beings could somehow, "evolve" into non-corpeal, energy beings, which is what I took your non physical beings to represent. I assume that at some point in the far future some sort of degradation of society will occur, possibly due to a far future stagnation/over-population scenario. Should that occur, I could see humanity slowly fallig apart over a very long time frame. Unless some kind of natural disaster (asteroid, gamma ray burst, etc.) occurs I don't think a sudden destruction would be very plausible. Perhaps we'll adapt to whatever future environments develop, or we'll change ourselves to an extent. It's all so bizarre to think about, I can't imagine what the world will be like (how advanced or ruined we'll be) in the far future. For the earth itself, it'll most probably meet it's end when the sun expands as it enters it's red giant stage. Billions of years from now, thankfully. Mr.Mister
The world is too powerful to simply end. It will for sure once our sun dies If we die before then, I imagine our race will die very slowly and painfully. WWIII x10
Jimmy_Leppard
The Planet Earth will end in about 5 billion years by the statements of scientists, cosmologists and theoretical physicists such as Stephen Hawking. They say that it's gonna happen when the Sun dies. The Sun will die when it runs out of hydrogen. (Hydrogen is the fuel that drives nuclear fusion on the sun.) When Sun converts all it's hydrogen into Helium, it will then grow bigger and hotter, and it's estimated that it's gonna grow so big and hot that will totally burn and erase Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon and maybe even Mars. You can check Stephen Hawking's ''Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking'' DVD where he talks about this and answers many more questions about the Universe. NaidRaida
A major collision with an asteroid is also possible although the chances are low. But until the sun dies there´s really much time left. Depending on the flying object size it can just rip a planet into peaces, throw it out of it´s orbit or whatever. And the earth is a tiny planet considering astronomical measures. I suppose there are objects which are even bigger than the earth with no directed orbit. Some kind of impact is for sure until the sun expands. The qestion is not if but when. Like abve said: It could destroy the planet completely. Do you think a government would tell the truth if a major collision cannot be avoided to avoid panic (finally it would be pretty difficult to hide this information)?
