Triple Penetration Posted August 13, 2011 Share Posted August 13, 2011 MafiaOne with no doubt! I never went seriously with it's story and just because Vice City was so popular at the time. Yet I don't like anything past 1970's I somehow found this game very good and had alot to do in freeroam, mostly because of nice countryside and unique secret places. Mafia 2 on other hand was exactly reverse of all the features in first game and yet it was storyline driven, the story itself was boring and with laughable cliche's while trying to make this serious as ever.. Fireman Posted August 13, 2011 Share Posted August 13, 2011 Mafia II is a fine sequel, better in many different ways, combat system, cover system, graphics, environment, voice acting better missions in my opinion (more variety) Yet Mafia 2 lacked the depth that Mafia 1 had. The story was meh, the dialogues were bleh (even though the voice acting was amazing) and the ending was URGHHGHGUHEHHGHGHGGUHU. Mafia 2 entertained me in the beginning making me think it's something more than it actually was. And in the end it shocked me in a very bad way. The game is cut and it's unfinished. Too many plot holes, too little content. It's still a good game, and if Mafia 1 never existed I'd say that Mafia 2 is a terrific game. But that only means that Mafia 1 is absolutely amazing. I changed it in for another game not so long ago, but it brings back good memories ironically. It was a very good game, but very disappointing at the same time. Or attention to detail? Or, "could that really happen in real life or is the storyline so wild it seems like a latter year DC comic" realism? Braindawg Posted August 15, 2011 Share Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) Playing both Mafia 1 and 2 daily, so here's my review: Mafia 1: Mafia 1 is amazing when you take your time to remember it. It's "that awesome game I used to play about 8 years ago, kinda like GTA but with a more serious approach to realism" But when you really REALLY look for bad things, it's not perfect. I'm not saying there is a perfect game, but Mafia 1 is a better game if you judge it from a 2004 perspective. The voice acting is a bit dull. When the pedestrians talk sometimes you can hear em reading the text. Same for Salieri and Tommy. Not much effort is put into the animations and vehicles. I mean, I know it's 2003 were talking about, but watch a video of "Molotov Patry" When Tommy shakes Ralphs hand it looks like they didn't even TRY to make it look like a firm handshake. The story is amazing. When I'm playing the game I'm really feeling like I'm watching "Goodfellas" or "A bronx Tale" sometimes, the gameplay is fun, and overall the game was a masterpiece for it's time. Mafia 2: Mafia 2 was to me, one big lie. A setup if you will. I bought the game only to be dissapointed by hundreds if reasons. Missing cars, missions, tracks, abillities ect... Mafia 2 has a good story, but it's flaws are countless. Driving cars is lots of fun, but having to deal with "Going Home" in the end of every mission is boring. It's like it's 2Ks excuse to give you time to free roam. Missing parts of the map, and car tuning, not being able to take a cab, the train or the bus was a dissapointement too. Melee weapons, what are you?!?! I wanna stab a guy in the stomach, hide his body and run away! punching is BORING! Although the missing content, and yes, it's missing, not cut. I take 2Ks move to delete all the sh*t they tried to sell us as "DLC" as MISSING content. That's why I pirated Joe's Adventures and Jimmy's Vendeta, along with all the clothing and car DLCs. Because I feel that I've already payed for those, not knowing they were gonna remove them, and re-script them as other characters and sell them for money. No. f*ck that! So... Althought the content is missing, Mafia 2 is a great game. The animations are fluid, the gameplay is fun, not counting... The missing content... and the story is great. The voice acting is very believable, aspecially Robert Costanzo's (Joe and Derek's voice actor) and Jeannie Elias' (Francesca). They did an amazing job bringing the characters to life. Rating: Mafia 1: Graphics: 9/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Story: 10/10 Let downs: None (from a first time perspective) Over all: 9.5/10 --- Mafia 2: Graphics: 10/10 Gameplay: 6/10 Story: 9/10 Let downs: Missing content, missions, map areas, jobs, abillities and melee weapons. But it had potential to be an incredible game, perhaps better than the first Mafia, had they not chopped up parts of it, sold it as DLC or or never used them again (and did a piss poor job of removing it), as well as had a more satisfying ending. I think the ending was what really made the first Mafia stand out for me, I wasn't expecting it from a game and it almost left me in tears.
