ska
(CNN) -- Jani Lane, lead singer of the 1980s "hair-metal" band Warrant, was found dead Thursday evening in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles, police said. He was 47. The cause of death is unknown. The singer helped propel the band to metal infamy with rock anthems like "Cherry Pie" and "Heaven." Warrant's first album, "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich," was released in 1989 and quickly was followed by the multiplatinum album "Cherry Pie" in 1990. Lane sang for Warrant until 2002, when he left "due to business differences," according to his website. In an autobiography posted on that site, he described the creation of "Cherry Pie" as a fortunate afterthought. "We recorded summer of '90, and when we were done, the president of Columbia Records said, 'Jani, you know I'm a big Aerosmith fan ... can you give me one more track? Something kitschy and sexy like "Love in an Elevator?' " Lane wrote. "I wrote 'Cherry Pie' that night and sent it off to N.Y. the next day. I've been the 'Cherry Pie Guy' ever since." http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/1...l?iref=trendent Unfortunate. I always loved Warrant, even though they were mostly known for Cherry Pie. Hope the medical examiners can get to the cause of what happened. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it's drug related. Slamman
Yes, I was in a daze/shock hearing this. I went back to all my favorite selections, it's dated 1988 on those early DRFSR songs, that I saw. Anyway, Jani probably had issues with drinking that caused his death, I suspect. They'd need a Toxicology report. There's a few people's deaths that just seem odd or strange to me, because the cause doesn't make sense to me Bass player of the Allman Brothers / Blue Floyd, Allen Woody is one. Jani Lane is in "Heaven", Where the "Down Boyz go", PEACE! R.I.P. Keep Rockin' Heaven Down (Heart said it well)

Slamman
After I went back to those old songs, I'd be out on my bike and just be singing them to myself, since they were so catchy and well written tunes, After Cherry Pie I felt what Lane was talking about, the song had a backlash he wasn't expecting, despite being a massive hit, the problem was it pigeonholed the band to a very cartoonish Hairband persona I guess one could say, He'd mention that more songs like Uncle Tom's Cabin is what he'd have gone for versus Cherry Pie, the album track. In the 1990s they tried for a harder crossover, but he's very much a clean-style singer, so it can't work being too heavy either. Rare clip outta my collection of video
