We need you as Story-writer first, and tester second, so please help write the story. @Djdevin10: What do you mean by top-down, the view? I did not particularly like the topdown view in GTA1 and 2. Flash is not suited to host a fully 3D environment. A solution could be to use 2.5D (think Rollercoaster Tycoon / Age of Empires). We could still use low-polygon vector models for cars and buildings, and then in some way transform them to sprite-like images. Other people have made Flash versions of GTA, but they all lack any serious storyline or design. If we can make nice visuals and interesting missions, it's a guaranteed success! Mati
Well, I started thinking about a proper storyline, but first I need to know about the location. Where will it start? I ain't sure which path I should choose. A hardcore killer or gangster? Or mafia guy? Lemme think about it for a bit.

Djdevin10
Alright, I'm Thinking Bout a couple of Street Thugs from Amsterdam,go to Paris and pull of the biggist heist in Paris history. So after they escape the heat, they leave the money to one of the thugs for him to count, but the thug gets killed while the others are at the hotel, and the hitman takes all the cash and leaves. SO the rest of the guys are going on a huge adventure trying to get their cash back. What you guys Think?
yoeri
Well, I started thinking about a proper storyline, but first I need to know about the location. Where will it start?I ain't sure which path I should choose. A hardcore killer or gangster? Or mafia guy? Lemme think about it for a bit. Alright, let's develop both the Story and the Characters simultaneously. First, the locations. London is physically separated from the other two cities by water. A possibility is to unlock London first. That means that once you finish London, you get access to two other cities at the same time. So, maybe we should do it the other way around, and start on the mainland, in either Paris or Amsterdam. Most people would view Paris as an upgrade to Amsterdam, as everything is literally bigger. More inhabitants, bigger country. But on the other side, Amsterdam is a place for hardcore criminals. There's modern brothels, money laundering, a vivid drugs market, etc. Amsterdam also has an amazing story in the person of Willem Holleeder. To me, he is GTA in real life. Extortion, kidnapping, and if he doesn't like you, you die. Even if he's not around to do it. Also, the Netherlands have that little problem with important people ending up dead. So, if Amsterdam is to be the final stage, it could as well be the first stage (think of Los Santos in GTA:SA). You start in a relatively safe city with public transport, and eventually return as some kind of King of Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll. This would make the line: Amsterdam -> Paris -> London -> Amsterdam Note that the storyline must have a reason why the protagonist travels to other countries. As for the characters, let's start easy. Just a random white male would do. The thing I love about protagonists like CJ and Niko, is that they feel forced to be hardcore criminals. They never get greedy or megalomanic. They just want to save the people they love from other gangsters. You can name random characters from series/movies you like, and base characters on those. Rockstar did that, with all those Mafia movie references. EDIT @Djdevin10: Lol, you figured out the same order of cities! How about a protagonist that gets caught in the events by accident? Why not have a computer hacker that gets dragged into said bank robbery, and has to pick up the gun to save his life? Being a beta tester basically means that you get to play the game before it's released. In return, you push the game to it's limits, and write down anything you notice, so we can fix things before the release.

Mati
Amsterdam is probably the best place to start, maybe the gang could develop there a bit. The protagonist would keep himself busy with a few small time jobs like drug dealing and maybe being a pimp on the red light, but when one of his friends finds out about a huge amount of jewels being transported to a French jeweler, the gang makes their way to Paris to plan the heist. Meanwhile, they're busy with some other criminal activities. When the day of the heist comes, the gang is meant to steal a convoy guarded securicar. When the job is done, the jewels are separated in a few different bags, each member gets one of them to keep things fair. They decide to get out of France as fast as they can (they have made enemies with some gangs+the police heat?) so they're crossing the canal and are meant to lay low for a while.. Were it so easy, as they arrive they find out that all of the bags are gone, along with one of the members. So it's clear that he has the jewels. But he couldn't have gotten back to France, since the Ferry was closed (???). The main goal in London is to find the one who betrayed you and get the jewels back. After getting your revenge, it's far from over. The thief did a small deal with the English Mob, he wanted to sell the jewels and has apparently collected the money. The Mob wants the jewels, you, of course, refuse to give it back. Back in Amsterdam, the mob has followed you and wants to kill you. The main antagonist would be the English Mob leader. What do you think? It's far from perfect yet though.

What do you think? It's far from perfect yet though. It's a great start. But does England have a Mob? As we are outside of the USA, we have access to different classes of enemies. For example, a rogue Bobby (an English palace guard that stands still in a portal all day), or even organize an attack on the British queen. In Amsterdam, there's this amazing thing called the grachts, a lot of parallel canals running through the city. We have to have a boat chase in there if possible! @NeedForSpeedXP: 1. Will it be the same view as GTA 1 and 2? I hope not, didn't like the topdown view. Serious lack of detail. 2. When will the game be finished? There is no deadline yet, just started this thread! Let's get a team working, and then we'll think about hitting milestones. EDIT: Thanks for the advertising! Edited August 12, 2011 by yoeri

yoeri
Sure i could help out on London story but am i making the characters to or is there a seprate team doing that? ya( i think) Storyline is very intertwined with the development of the characters, especially the protagonist, antagonist, and about three other major characters. Please note that our storyline will not be as complex as GTA IV. We just don't have time and room to be too complex. So please, everybody on the Storyline crew: develop the characters together. Once we have a stable Storyline, we can separate Character Development from Storyline Development. Character Bios(Not Final)Chris Jansen- The Protagonist. A street thug from Amsterdam, he is a professional hacker, but also is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He tries to be calm, but a**holes always piss him off. He is 26/Dutch Charlie Smith- Charlie is a Drug Dealer From New York. He is ruthless, thrifty, but (somewhat) Loyal. He Helps outh The Robbers with details, and a place to stay. 43/ Hispanic. What You Think? Those are some nice Personae. But do we want four drug dealers? For example, in GTA:SA, CJ has something in common with just about every other character, but not the same trait with four of them. So, there's two rappers, three people from the Grove, two family members, etc. A strength of GTA is the diversity of characters. There's a gangsta wannabe, a mob boss, an entrepeneur. But yeah, we need to start small. The first characters you meet are probably old friends or family members. You cannot meet the business emperor straight away!
