alexeilb
Hello, I have recently built a computer and been having quite a bit of fun with GTA 4. I have downloaded many mods which I have installed and I gotta tell ya, it makes the game much more fun. As I was searching around for mods I was surprised that almost no mods actually expands the city, I mean there is a lot of water in the game, but who goes out riding on the boat? I know the map has some set boundaries, can does be somehow undone? The only mods I've seen so far are some lame bridges made up of tankers It would be nice to see an expansion, perhaps freeway system, a country side, perhaps some small forests, or mountains. More area to explore and wander off on, things that were in GTA SA, but not in GTA 4. This brings me to the next question, how involved is it? I have 4 years of modeling experience from my high school years + college. Since then I have took a different course, make plenty of money and have some time on my hands. The program I used back in the day were Lightwave 3D, would that be compatible in anyway?
Limiter
Hello there, Here is how it is currently, from what I know. You are right about map boundaries and there is nothing we can do as of now because there isn't a robust or even a workable limit breaker for IV. So we are restricted to 6000x6000 of the map starting from the origin (courtesy of quechus13 for telling me the exact size). I am currently working on a map mod in a team to add a new city inside GTA IV alongside Liberty City and Alderney City with new enterable buildings and usable roads but I cannot formally release any more information than this yet due to various reasons, hope you understand. I agree, there aren't that many city mods out there because most people choose to make it as a private mod. I use 3ds max currently and unfortunately, I have not seen a tool developed by anyone that can transform lightwave models into GTA IV objects. But there is a workaround, of course, to export the lightwave model to max and use GIMS to export to IV and also OpenIV format. From there, openformats will create the remaining files into IV files. Hope this clarifies some issues, and please feel free to repost if you have more questions to ask. Cheers, Limiter
nkjellman
Well I personaly like your idea. I saw a topic and it was titled My Dream Map or something. It had LC and some new parts to add more suburbs, and the type of country side you see around the North Eastern US. That map would realy fit with your idea and I hope someone decides to make it some day.
