Reproduction

I also want some religious opinions BTW. We are a part of nature, our only reason to be on this planet is: reproduction. To evolve and reproduce and keep the human race going. Every plant, animal, insect and fish is on this earth to reproduce. Humans: We choose to have kids or not, although we are not meant to do so, we are meant to reproduce. My point is: Is it religiously wrong to not reproduce (Assuming that the physical and financial strength is present)? Will we get punished for not fulfilling the only duty we had on this planet?

Thank you,

Shayan Shaffey

My God - if a God exists - only told me to be a good human, not to reproduce myself for all one is worth.

Due to this it would be OK not to have children at all but if you want to: After my theory you have to try to teach them to be also good people then.

So, for my religion - which you´ll find in no book, it´s a mixture of everything - it would be absolutely okay not to "reproduce". Reproduction is not a part of sense of life for me, but a child could easily

become a real sense of life if I think about it longer.

My God is not angry about less reproduction or even none, but he will get due to to less cared children which got ruined their lifes from just the beginning and may later ruin other lifes.

I´m also looking to it also philosophically, which will focus also a question after the sense of life at all when it comes to reproduction. Financial apects may also play a role, if you want to create new life, sure.

Good answer, the only religion I have seen that put reproduction in the "duty" section is Islam. Quran: "You shall have offspring who pray for you after your passing"

We are meant to reproduce? Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we have to do it. It's not mandatory, and I as a rationalist don't think there is a god. Reproduction is important for the survival of the society, however. That's why ancient societies insisted on it through religion. Nowadays you don't need any of that because people will f*ck everywhere and they will f*ck anyone. There are also medically assisted pregnancies. So don't worry. The future of our species is ensured. As long as we don't kill each other in another world war, or if an asteroid doesn't decide to kill itself by plummeting down to Earth.

I don´t know really much facts about Islam or Koran.

If in Islam it is important to have children, it is fully okay, but I think about my before mentioned point agian: Once you decide to have children, please care them, so they can care also new life.

You think Allah would punish you if you don´t listen to islamic religious guideline? (a religion is more like a guide to me you know, I bet God wants us to use our own brain sometimes)

Or does exist specific islamic texts that warn with punishment?

No, I am not a muslim. My religion is "god" I only believe in him and doing good deeds, I don't believe any books or "prophets" it's only god for me.

There are islamic texts about punishments:

After death you enter the abyss and you must wait for the day of Judgement (Apocalypse), this may take many moons and suns (days and nights) but you will not sense it because time is meaningless in the Abyss. On the day of Judgement the mountains will move, the seas will roar, the insects will fly everywhere and all animals will be acting abnormal, as this is the call of Allah. On that day all humans will collect and be equal: The King will be worth no more than the peasant, only the deeds done on earth are now worth something. The good will be sent to heaven, the neutral will be sent to purgatory, the bad will be sent to hell and must choose from 7 doors to reside until their sins have been payed of and the non-believers will be sentenced to an eternity in Hell.

I personally don't believe in the Quran or Bible or Torah or any other "holy" script.

Reproduction is not a duty in Islam and it's your choice if you want to have children or not.

Damn, you are obssesed with Islam, leave them alone for god sakes. smile.gif

I'm not obsessed with Islam, in fact I dislike it for ruining the image of my country

Reproduction is, at the end of the day, a choice. Now, that doesn't mean I am radically pro-choice when it comes to the abortion debate, but ultimately, particularly in this day and age of gender equality and progress, not only is the idea that it is a woman's duty to give birth becoming socially unpopular, but what with the rising problem of overpopulation, it's not pragmatic either.

For me I have points that differs from their aspects.

In the Aspect I think its a DUTY because in my belief (Catholicism or you would say Christianity) God said be fruitful and Multiply and which I believe is essential on living a christian life.

In the Aspect of being a Human I'd say its also a DUTY because reproduction is to ensure the "spark" of humanity will not fade.

In the Aspect of as an Individual in the Society I'd Say its a CHOICE because everyone is free on what they want to do with their lives, There shouldn't be any conflicts with everyone in the society whether they want kids or not. Everyone is free to think and live happily.

It's a Voluntary Duty, if you get what I mean. It doesn't need everybody on Earth to produce, but it needs some amount of people, say 20 Million a year (very rough estimate). It just needs about 20 Million volunteers a year to say: 'You know what? I'm gonna make a baby!' And the other 6 Billion people can rest that year. Basically, the world NEEDS people to make babies each year, but it is voluntary.

Something very interesting on the radio today that I caught whilst doing some errands. There was a man discussing the idea of evolution in context to humans. Essentially, his point was that, as we have to some degree eradicated natural selection in our species and worked to prevent issues that cause the deaths of children, that we are reproducing less and therefore, at least in theory, thinning our own gene pool. As there is no longer a requirement for every family to have 8, 10, 12 children in order to ensure that at least some survive to spread their seed, there is a marked decrease in genetic "choice" available in the world and therefore beneficial mutations are fewer and further between.
