I keep getting this blue screen on my computer it is really annoying I think it is somthing wrong with my ram I used memtest and there was no errors I've been getting this for a year now and I got some time to work on it.

Specs:

Motherboard:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4222488&CatId=3507

graphics card: GTX260

ram: 4gb of ocz ram

cpu:intel q9550 not overclocked

my computer is using a thhermaltake frio which provides for adaquate cooling

My specs are getting a little dated which is especially true of my motherboard I dont want to do any significant upgrades to my computer until Microsoft flight or GTA 5 comes out.

Are there any file names in the blue screen? It's difficult to solve this type of BSOD without a file name

This is a driver issue, but the exact cause will be pretty difficult to determine without any file names.

Does the BSOD occur in safe mode?

OverTheBelow

Put your RAM in different slots and see if the problem persists. Memtest does not always catch problems with RAM.

Go to C:\Windows\Minidump

There should hopefully be a file in there. If there is zip it up and upload it some place or PM me and I'll give you an email address you can send it to. I have the Windows debug kit that can tell me what's really going on. The Event Viewer build into 7 should be able to do the same but sometimes not.

When you ran memtest how many passes did you let it do?

You should let it run for 3-5passes. If you let it run overnight, while at work/school, basically about 8+ hours that should be enough to get 5-6 passes easy.

As for the drivers, I doubt it's actually the drivers. It's possible that something in the OS fubared and the drivers might need to be reinstalled but if you've been running with it for a long time on the original chipset drivers and now suddenly bad things happen then I doubt it's because the drivers are old. That's not to say to rule them out either.

More so the same for the BIOS. BIOS updates usually say exactly what all they are targeting in that update and usually it's minor things or a simple glitch that while annoying shouldn't be anything that would cause major issues. If there was an update that was need to fix a major issue then you would have seen that issue come up since day 1 and not X-number of months later. I will say this, in the case of your BIOS update if you started off with 1 CPU and then later upgraded to what you're using now and started having problems soon after that, then yes I would go a head and update the BIOS.

And these BIOS updates were released in 2008 and that's the newest one so it kind of seems less likely the BIOS are the problem, but again I'm not saying to rule it out either.

@OTB

Memtest failing or passes doesn't mean that the problem is with the RAM itself. If memtest find errors it could be the RAM or it could be some other part of the hardware or even just a simple setting in the BIOS. Just because memtest passes doesn't mean that the RAM really is good or bad, more so if only 1 pass is run.

Got your dump file. My bad I should have mentioned to zip it before trying to upload it. Sorry about that.

In this case the cause points to a file called WUSB54GSCV2_x86.sys and from what I've found this a drivers of a Linksys USB Wifi device.

Uninstall the drivers and check Linkysys' website for newer drivers.

To do this, go to your start menu, type device manager in the search box and open that.

Then, look in Network Adapters (it should be there) and right click the Linksys device, and press Uninstall. Restart the PC even if Windows doesn't prompt you to do so.

Do some internet browsing (don't work on any papers for work or anything like that; you don't know if the problem will come back and you lose several hours' work) or something and see if the BSOD comes back.

If yes, upload the dump file again and we see if it's multiple issues or whether somehow the same issue came back.

If the BSOD doesn't come back, then reinstall the Linksys drivers from their website. See if the updated drivers fix the issue.

Yeah that was what i suspected was the problem I thought it was because I use too overclock my ram and increase the voltage of my ram and all that

I cannot get the internet without that driver being there.

B. Save it to the Desktop

C. Uninstall the current driver

D. Restart

E. Install the downloaded driver

F. Restart

Was that so hard? tounge.gif

No. AM3+ or LGA 1155 is futureproof. 775 is already obsolete man

ya well I dont want to spend to much money I do not play more than a couple of games plus im gonna be in college in a couple of years I dont want my computer to distract me too much

What you have is called Blue Screen of Death, I believe. It happened to me quite a number of times, uninstall the latest unnecessary thing you installed 80% that it is the cause.

Then get a $500 system with a Core i3 2100, Intel HD Graphics, 4GB ram and a H61 LGA 1155 board. This way, the only games you can play are very old games

I don't have time to list everything now but maybe someone else can help you

Did you even bother to read the whole topic?

Yes he knows what it's called and we've already narrowed it down to what the mini dump says caused the BSoD.

You're reply is also most as bad as Slamman's pointless posts.

@dukee152

You didn't say before that you were OCing the RAM. You only said you weren't OCing the CPU and most people don't OC just the RAM. They usually do just the CPU or both RAM and CPU.

Try setting everything back to default, meaning no OCing at all, and see if you get the same problem.

As for not being able to get online without the wifi; is that to mean you have no way at all to be able to connect to the net using wired/ethernet?

The mobo socket type you have. As Yankee said, no it's not future proof, but if you want to replace the mobo you can get a new one easy enough. I wouldn't spend too much though if you plan at all on doing a complete upgrade within the year. In fact you do plan to do a complete upgrade within the year don't bother getting a new mobo at all. If you have to wait 2 years then I wouldn't spend more than $100 for a new 775 mobo.

For Yankee's suggestion on parts, $500 can get you a bit more than that.

yeah alright I will set everything to default I re-installed the WiFi adapter I do not have Ethernet running through my house so I have no means of getting a wired connection.

But the access point you're connecting to does have the wired ports right?

How far away are you from the router? I'm assuming this is a desktop machine since you're using an USB wifi dongle.

Are you saying you leech off your neighbor's internet?

I don't get it... if you don't have ethernet then how can you have wireless internet without a router? AFAIK wireless routers need an Ethernet cable to connect. The only other way is to leech off of someone else's wireless connection
