Rokas.
I'm really into old school jazz from the fifties and sixties, and it's all great, but I'm thinking that I should listen to some new jazz from 90's/00's, but I have no idea where to start, or where to look for it. So could anyone suggest me anything? any albums or songs or artists? I think this is a good example
Slamman
Well New Age is more like the artists of Windham Hill, Liz Story, Tim Story, Will Ackerman, Alex DeGrassi. But there's also instrumental stuff from Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chiquico that fits in the new-age catagory. Piano of George Winston is some of the best in that genre. I've seen him perform like...with my folks (I told them to come to that show!)
Moonshield
Everybody needs more Skerik in their life. Check out his septet's most recent record, Husky. Medeski, Martin & Wood is hot. And with John Scofield, it feels so right: There's also John Zorn, he kind of takes Free Jazz to a new level. Some of his work is a bit tough to swallow (Naked City especially), but he's a fantastic composer. All of these guys, like pretty much every jazz musician working today, do collabs and ensembles with other great musicians. If you have something like last.fm or Spotify, it'd be worth checking out what other things these guys do. mr quick

Slamman
Heck, talk about Jazz and Rock, even Fusion music, you have to mention Frank Zappa! Get him in GTA, that would be awesome!
Rokas.
Frank Zappa. I know that he's bloody amazing, but I never get into him really. Just gotta start with something. Though I know this amazing jazz fusion song by King Crimson I wish they did more of jazz fusion, I usually listen to first song of this album, and then skip all others
Slamman
Well, My late radio and guitarist friend Earl Root kinda worshiped Frank Zappa (and Black Sabbath) so he got me to take a more in-depth look at Zappa's artistry, and of course, being a fan of Steve Vai, that also prompted me to explore it. It really DOES stem from jazz, if you see Frank talk about how he came to his musical artistry approach The King Crimson follow a Rock Fusion approach, so again, jazz is certainly a construct of that! Check out this CD mailer they also put out, I got it included with their live in concert DVD in DTS and it's absolute genius stuff! "The Young Persons guide to Discipline Volume II" Came with their live DVD at the time, I highly recommend all that, it's actually stellar enjoyment Edited August 10, 2011 by Slamman

His son Dweezil is still mastering previously unreleased studio and live recordings of his. I'm more hip to his guitar-oriented records than his weirder ones like Joe's Garage or We're Only in it for the Money, but his message has always been deliberate in its satire. That said, I'd definitely check out his records like Hot Rats (my favorite) and Sleep Dirt.
