TUN3R
I recently re-formated my PC and moved from Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and while GTA IV and TLaD seem to run well, TBoGT has random frame rate fluctuations from time to time, drops from 25 - 30 FPS to 5 - 10 FPS. Why? I'm using the same graphics settings I always have: Res: 800 x 600 x 60 Hz Textures: High Reflections: Medium Shadows: Low (I didn't enable night shadows but fo' some reason they still show up) Detail Distance: 100 Traffic: 20 (Could max it out without impacting performance but it's already annoying enough as it is) Definition: ON V-Sync: OFF Everything else, including Draw Distance is set to flatout minimum, I also don't have any mods or graphics Driver settings. My PC: Intel Core i5-661 3.33 GHz (Dual Core) 4GB DDR3 Dual Channel RAM Forsa GeForce 9400 GT 1GB (Hopefully I'll swap it for a GeForce 250 soon) Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit I have the Steam versions of both GTA IV and EFLC. unc13bud
tbogt is the most stressful out of the three and that video card has only 16 shader processors Shadows: Low (I didn't enable night shadows but fo' some reason they still show up) exactly. unc13bud
oops! lenovo touchpad is sux i meant to quote and while GTA IV and TLaD seem to run well, TBoGT has random frame rate fluctuations from time to time, drops from 25 - 30 FPS to 5 - 10 FPS. at least purchase a gt 240 or 440 (not gt 520 or 530) for $35, they have 96 shaders cores. you are using a dual core machine, so i don't think you should waste money on a gtx 460, etc
TUN3R
I'm getting a GeForce 250 but that's not the point the point is that TBoGT runs like crap when it ran fine before, and the others (GTA IV / TLAD) run fine.
PecanFrost
I think what he's pointing at is that the Draw Distance is at maximum and the video card is going to be pushed hard at much lower settings. If you're playing at 800x600 you do not need display distance up so high.
TUN3R
Yeah it set it to minimum and it works better, though I still don't understand why it didn't impact my performance before, I've been using the same settings since I got EFLC from Steam almost a year ago... Thanks tho, still doesn't run too well but thanks.
luceberg
I keep saying this, but try using the commandline -reservedApp 0. It gives the game a full 2Gb of address space. Improves performance for me anyway.

Improves performance for me anyway. Hell no! Commandline was one of the reasons I re-formated. It caused the game to run out of memory in about 2 hours or so (best case scenario). Couldn't fix it any other way, not even reinstalling the game. I'm not dealing with commandline again.
luceberg
Yes, well that would happen on a 32 bit Windows 7, unless you do the 3Gb switch. On a 64 bit system, it wont happen, because windows sees all the installed ram. Anyone running a gaming system should have some basic utilities like this to back up your system. Much easier than reinstalling.

TUN3R
BUMP Ok I got a new GPU, the 200 series were a no-go so I got a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 550 Ti. Expensive as hell but I hope it was worth it. Anyway wile most games run at over 70 FPS with max graphics, GTA IV has some problems. 1st off GTA IV can't run perfectly with max graphics, but I saw that coming, I basically have 2 choices of which graphics to set lower than maximum. Ether: Shadows: High Draw Distance: 60 Detail Distance: 60 Game runs at 70 FPS in 70% of the areas and 50 FPS in high stress areas. Or. Draw Distance: Limit is 60, I set it to 40 Detail Distance: 40 Water detail: Low Game runs at 70 FPS in low stress areas and 30 FPS in high stress areas.. I'm using the 1st setting for both EFLC and IV. Problem is, despite the fact that the game runs at great frame rate it has random lag spikes for a few seconds. I know this problem isn't related to the new GPU cause I've been having it since I re-formatted the PC. It's just that it didn't bother me much before since my game was running at low frame rate anyway... I really don't wanna re-format again :[ EDIT: A few seconds after I closed IV my Windows 7 display switched to Windows 7 basic, and after a few minutes back to normal... weird. By the way I set the Power options on the PC for performance, could that be the problem? Edited August 20, 2011 by TUN3R

Aljohnk
I think after 5 minutes of gameplay will LAG is a main common problem, but i'm not sure.(I have always this problem, though.) I think i guess maybe someday lol, Someone's gonna fix/tweak the game or engine( )

I have friends with similar setups (except they have Quads) and they aren't having any problems, not even with V-Sync off.
