Long_Haired_Boy
GTA V has still yet to be announced officially by Rockstar and Take-Two, but it's only a matter of time. It's highly likely that the game will be a big part of Take-Two's fiscal 2013, meaning that it will ship sometime after April 2012. Gamers have been eagerly awaiting the next installment, and given Rockstar's pedigree, the quality should be there to help fuel big sales. In an investor note today, Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter said that GTA V should sell at least 18 million, and it could even end up as high as 24 million units, given historical attach rates for the blockbuster franchise. "We expect the next Grand Theft Auto to sell at least 18 million units, representing a 20% attach rate to the estimated 2011 year-end installed base of PS3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe. At this level, we estimate that Grand Theft Auto will generate at least $2.65/share in incremental EPS, making Take-Two’s forecast of 'in excess' of $2.00 per share in earnings during FY:13 easily attainable," he said. "Should the game sell 24 million units (in line with its historical attach rate), we expect contribution of more than $4.00 per share in incremental EPS. Importantly, the company has a history of providing conservative guidance, and without a GTA game in FY:13, we would not expect management to be so bold as to guide to earnings over $2.00." GTA as a franchise recently passed the 100 million units mark as GTA IV approached 20 million sold. Just more news that its coming. http://www.industrygamers.com/news/gta-v-c...s-says-analyst/
KevinR1990
Pachter... <snort> Saying that the next GTA is going to sell millions of units is like saying that when I wake up tomorrow, the sky will be blue and the air won't smell like fire and brimstone. The only things that Michael Pachter's been right about are things as glaringly obvious as that. Seriously, the man's a running joke in the gaming community for the number of times that he's been absolutely wrong with his predictions.

Slamman
Pachter loves GTA, I'm pretty sure he speculates on it because he knows why the game is fundamentally popular and as huge as it is. That being said, he's a bit over-zealous, Some of you are too!

They want GTA V just as bad as we do. That scorecard is based on earnings estimates only; which for T2, is fairly easy, given that they sell a limited amount of varying products and generally provide a good forecast themselves. I think what most people are referring to are things like his release date and announcement predictions, which from what I've seen, has been highly inaccurate thus far. You are right in that he's spot on or close to the predicted amount of units sold for GTA V, but then again, that number is easy to get to, given that T2 has previously issued their earnings estimate for the next fiscal year, as well as looking at the general attachment rate for GTA/AAA titles to consoles when factoring in the current number of consoles in the global market. Oh and @darrellmonks, you made me laugh. Edited August 10, 2011 by Adriaan
Original Light
It's very obvious that it's going to sell alot. Mostly because it's over due and should be out by now.

Secura
It's very obvious that it's going to sell alot. Mostly because it's over due and should be out by now. Just shut up. IV took longer to release than this hell RDR took FIVE years. BE PAITENT. Or is life so bad that every waking thought revolves around why GTA V has not yet been released. Stop being an impaitent little brat and learn to wait. It seems that the majority of everyone that has joined this summer is a nine year old who doesn't want to wait anymore though they have been here less than two months. Lightning strike is correct, the time between San Andreas and IV was quite a while. Rockstar North are not exactly huge, so of course it will take time to develop a game like GTA. Ash_735
Michael Patcher has previously said that the next GTA would be revealed or at least teased at E3 2011, ...yeah. He's a good guy, but his job is basically guess work and of course that means he gets things wrong (and trust me, the dude has got a lot of things wrong), He can look at the figures and what not but at the end of the day, in regards to the next GTA announcement, he's about as informed as us lot. CubA_iLL_BrothA
Put it this way, thousands of people thought the next installment was going to be announced at E3, at the same time, thousands of people were not counting on an E3 announcement. Most of us know the game is already in progress. From some underground source, they know the next location.
CheesyJ
I wouldn't be surprised if it was able to go out and do that. We've already seen from these boards how much interest there is in the next game and that is without any trailers or teasers. It's going to be an incredibly popular game and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go out and break some sales records.
