All boats? That depends on your definition of "the poor" and how you contribute. If by poor you mean the guy living in a run down flat supporting his family by flipping burgers on minimum wage then yes, he still is a consumer and involved in the economy and thus creating better paying jobs for people like him, or helping them get an education can benefit me in the long haul. If by poor you mean the homeless guy going from shelter to shelter then no, my donation to the shelter doesn't benefit me, no that's not true it makes me look good, but that's about it.
