I saw a commercial saying that if you bought certain electronic devices from a certain time period, that you are entitled to a refund. Apparently the companies charged too much for it - I missed half of the commercial. Why would they have to give a refund? Wouldn't free enterprise allow them to sell their products at whatever price(here in the US)?

I saw that too but I think it was an ad for a law firm. Saying you could use their firm to sue the manufacturer. I personally wouldn't think too much into it. Just another one of those settlement ads like you see for Mesothelioma and diseases caused by certain drugs. Stuff like that.

 

And I think the case they try to make is some kind of monopoly case where they used monopolistic power to artificially raised the price. Which is illegal.

I don't know much about Orwell's homophobia apart from the odd reference to "pansies" or "nancies" and some comment in his essay on Salvador Dali referring to homosexuality as an "aberration" or "perversion". To be honest I don't think it's worth getting too excited about - it's fair to remember he was expressing a fairly prevalent view at the time. and think it would be fair comment to say that Orwell does display homophobia here and there. He is probably less homophobic than the average English person of his generation, but possibly more so than the average left-wing intellectual of his generaton.

Traffic jams are actually shocking easy to prevent, to the extent that a few small changes in policy could eliminate them forever. Although, I doubt the oil companies would get away with artificially creating traffic jams. More likely, there's just no push from the public to create traffic laws that prevent traffic jams.

 

My question is: when you're up all night and have something to do the next day, why is it easier not to sleep at all than to sleep for a few hours?

Ever since I read his anecdote about him being shot by a fascist sniper in the throat, I started reading more of his writings and eventually developed an interest for his literature. When, upon telling my friend about him, he told me that Orwell was a homophobe. I asked him for source to which he did not take seriously. And I couldn't seek any reliable evidence, either.

 

I guess this probably is true.

Yea, I currently have 998 points ATM and before that 1000 and idk how I got that much over night. Well thanks I guess and yea this is my 4th account here and I made my first account here back in 2010 or early 2011 with some corny name, something like gta allstar ninja. If I do get banned then I'll use my back up account and yea banned means like you got IP banned here.

If an account is IP banned then another account won't help you. If you got dynamic IP it might work, but they can ban the whole range of IPs you've been using.

 

Question: Is the rule against multiple accounts not really enforced? I get the impression that secondary accounts are common here.
