That's not racism. There are plenty of much stronger influences, and you should never assume that a particular person has particular traits because of their race, but to think that it has no impact on person's development, either physically or mentally, is just plain ignorant. Trying to force everyone into the same standard is about as harmful as actual racism.

Sorry, that's not what I meant to say. I just meant that it's racist to assume being of a particular race means that you naturally do/are so and so, because of your particular race. I also don't mean to say that that's a be-all-end-all definition of racism.

Are valets really around anymore? Like at high end hotels and golf courses etc. And if they are how would someone go about getting a job as one?

what part of the US do you live in?? they're far from extinct.

 

in any big city there will be valet services @ major hotels, nice restaurants, and certain entertainment venues.

you get these jobs the same way you get any other kind of entry level job; go there, ask for an application form, and submit your resume. you might also check job sites like Monster.com for general, no-skills wanted ads. a good valet service will not hire you unless you can drive a manual gearbox.

I currently live in minnesota. But I will be Moving to Arizona this spring so im looking at what jobs I can do. And with all the high end golf courses and hotels in the phoenix area im thinking I could get a job as a valet because it seems very very easy and atleast you get to get behind the wheel of some nice cars every now and then albeit for a short time lol. So its good to hear they are still around.

In the hotels I am familiar with the services for the guest now combine the Valet and Bellmen position as follows:

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
Welcomes and accommodates guests. Responds to all guests with a cheerful, helpful attitude, good grooming, and quality service while providing assistance with bags, parking of cars and transportation in company vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Direct traffic of vehicles at hotel entrances.
• Secure taxis/transportation for guests/visitors.
• Assist guests with luggage.
• Park guest vehicles and secure vehicle.
• Return rental vehicles for guests.
• Complete errands/deliveries for guests.
• Transport guests to various areas within a 5 mile radius of the hotel.
• Perform all job duties toward the goal of maximizing guest service.
• Provide gracious and professional service in an efficient manner.
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner with the awareness that all actions and communications are within guest view.
• Maintain a professional appearance and uniform standards.
• Develop and promote a teamwork attitude with all co-workers.
• Completes assigned duties with each shift.
• Maintains open and positive communication with supervisors and co-workers.
• Follow and maintain all systems and procedures established by the Company.
• Respond graciously to guest service issues and report the situation to management.
• Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the manager. Furthermore, tasks and responsibilities may be added or revised based on the volume of business and the need for the work to be completed at the present time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• 3 years experience driving vehicles.
• Good understanding of the English language.
• Able to drive all types of vehicles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and written.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor.
• Ability to drive all vehicle types.
• Exert physical effort in lifting/transporting at least 50 pounds.
• Push/pull carts and other equipment up to 250 pounds.
• Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
• Must be able to stand and exert well paced mobility for up to 4-hours in length.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous valet, and/or customer service experience preferred.

Insurance liability requires age of 21+ and Bonding might be a requirement in the better hotels.

Sounds good. The only thing that pissed me off is the 21+ requirement. So it looks like I will have to kill some time then work in another job. And the only work experience I have is as a sales rep for an appliance repair company but that requires a lot of driving so hopefully that will help

Be sure to eat whole grains and eggs, these also contain iron. (A good breakfast before donating might be, a grainy cereal followed by a friend/poached egg)

The wages were great in Connecticut.

The problem is the (can be) Management. Most don't know what to do on the floor. Since WalMart got the Federal Government (Labour Dept.) to rescind the Overtime pay for Salaried 'management' they are ground to sand and try as best they can to pass it on to the hourly workers.

Many Managers are decent but all you need is one 'pissed-off' boss to make it unpleasant.

Used to be you did your job and went home. Now to track employee productivity the worker has to record each function to prove that (s)he is completing the work in a timely manner. And, there are still the rare boss who wants work off the clock popping up.

They've cut back, like the 'Greeters' are gone, the maintenance staff is half of what it used to be.

After Midnight, The 24 hour store locks the Main Doors, so everyone must use the 'Grocery doors'. Only one cashier at the Self-Checkout.

It is expected that they will hire only part timers soon (like the Target) to avoid Obama's care.

 

Still it was (is?) a great place to work in Connecticut.

OH, and it's a safe place to work too, they don't allow guns or any form of weapon on the premises, even cops aren't if hired by the store.

depending on the event and clientele, valet services will hire 18+ as long as your driving record is clean (should go without saying...).
