I am oldschool, haha.

The colour (parts of the link are coloured green and maroon) messes it up somehow. The new forum software applies colours to links for some reason when the code boxes are involved, the admins are probably working on some fix for it.

Go into the signature editor and see if there are any -tags and delete them if there are. Otherwise, try retyping the tags yourself.

You mean the external link colors, right?

This is the only thing in my siggy box:

Much obliged, everyone!

Or try copying this, and remove the four asterisks when you paste it in the siggy box:

[*url=h*ttps://twitter.com/Scribe_Levi][*img=h*ttp://snag.gy/B5omT.jpg][/url]

Nice one, having two different editors and that strange code tag means that trying to fix whenever something goes wrong is a bit complicated. :p

This isn't exactly a problem, as far as I know - it's intentional and a default 'feature' of the forum software. There is a way to get rid of the colors of the links, though. When using the text editor, you will see that there are two different types of editors. The first one shows you the plain BBcode, the second one shows you the content of the post the way it's displayed when it is posted, i.e. the finalized version of the post.

The code GTAKid provided above in the code boxes can be copied as usual, but it has to be pasted with the first type of the editor. That way, it is possible to avoid that you copy the colors as well, which means the code will work the way it's intended. It doesn't work when using the second editor, because you request the code to be displayed as BBcode. It took me a few weeks to get the hang of it, but it's actually easy.

I'll still file that under my category called "complicated". :p I'll never think it's simple if it requires that much explaining and depends so vastly on whether or not you've clicked on a button but if that's how it is supposed to work then oh well. :p

Why are metacritic scores for 60 considered good for movies? I've seen many good films get 60's and 70's and movies seem to get rated lower than games from what I know.

In a perfect world, 5/10 is purely average. Therefore, 60 would be above average and 70 would be good. Also, its personal opinion for the most part.

Keep in mind too that a lot of people will just vote 10 for films they like or 1 for films they hate, just to move the score more dramatically in their favour. That would be my guess anyway.

My question: How do I disable birthday notifications on Facebook? I don't want tons of "happy birthday" posts to shift through.

Leave it on man. It sounds silly, but it's nice when you get a bunch of birthday wallposts, you feel loved, I had like 90 posts on my last birthday and it felt really nice knowing that many people cared enough to post. It made my day that little bit nicer.

Why do music and film critics exist? Why do they get to make a living off judging other people's work? And why should their opinions hold more value than the average joe?

Usually because they're an expert or know quite a lot about music or films, much more than the average joe. They'll look into the meanings of the lyrics or visuals, compare the rhythm with other songs or filmography with other films, rather than just the flashy lights and so forth. They're much more familiar with the work. The average joe's favourite film is probably Avatar or Transformers going by box office numbers alone.

Plus, then there'd be no way of finding opinions about films/music without shifting through user comments of "this film suxs!!!1!" or "Best film eva" and so forth.

But if they are ''experts'' as you put it, why do they not all have the same opinion then? And what about those who gave Avatar or Transformers a good review?

I just don't buy it. I'm a firm believer that everyone should hold their own opinion about a film, game or song, undistorted by anyone else's viewpoint, which is why I don't see the point in ''professional'' critics.

Well, if everyone is allowed to hold their own opinion, what's exactly wrong with professional critics if they're just sharing their own opinion?

And also, of course they don't have the same opinion on all films, because not everyone is the same. They're all an artform, in its own nature, art creates different opinions based on how different people view it. Its not a science where you can boil down every piece of literature or film into a mathematical equation of how good it is. What I'm saying is that they're much more knowledgeable about films, books, games and will be able to give you a more balanced viewpoint on a piece of media.

Let me ask you this: Would you take the advice from someone who knew literally nothing about films or would you listen to the opinion of someone who studies films for living and has seen far more films and can give you the pros and cons from both a technical and artistic standpoint?

As experts, they look past things like explosions, how hot the lead actress is and if the story was one that might actually interest them and make sense - as your average joe would - and tell you how good the movie was; your average joe will say how good the experience is.

Now, onto your idea of opinions, as this seems to be the thing causing problems here. See, although opinions are like assholes - everyone has one, and has the right to have one - some opinions, whether you like it or not, are more valid than others. Some opinions matter a lot, some you should not even bother listening to. Opinions are not a holy grail that you hold up and can angrily mutter 'but it's my opinion' when someone tells you just how wrong your opinion may be. People's opinions become more valid based on how much knowledge and experience they have with a subject; this is why we have experts. They have a huge amount of knowledge and experience with a subject that an average person simply could not have without focusing on the subject. On the other side of the spectrum, someone with no knowledge or experience should be ignored. f*ck their opinion. The idea that opinions are some special protected right means some people - for whatever reason - will create opinions on anything and everything, without regards to whether they have enough information to form a basic opinion that isn't complete sh*te - including having no information at all. These people are stupid, and the opposite of experts.

Now, back to film experts. You could ask a few friends whether a film was good; they'll likely say something that can be taken into consideration, as they have seen the film. However, they won't go into specifics and why's and the like - if you're the kind of person who has the same tastes and wants for a film as your friends, great! Just ask them and that's all you really need. But if no-one has seen it, or you're more specific on things like story, characters and so on, the average person just won't be good enough for this. An expert will tell you at a glance if the film is worth seeing, and more precisely why it's good, which parts worked well and so on. So if you like humour and a comedy film doesn't hold up on the humous but has good emotional parts which make your friends like it, they may gloss over the lack of humour (or not notice it at all) whilst an expert will say that the humour was badly done. Note, however, that experts don't just include paid film reviewers; movie aficionados are just as reliable, as they're classed as experts.

For your last points, back to opinions, as nice as it is saying everyone should have their own sheltered opinion on everything, like I said this doesn't really make sense unless you want everyone to research topics more readily than reading an angry tweet or two from their favourite youtuber on some hard indie game. Having it undistorted is also a bad idea, as opinions should not be concrete - they should be changeable based on the information at hand. This is pretty much what discussion is; talking about your opinions and the why's, and trying to reach a good stance on them - keep an open mind. Like I said, although there aren't right/wrong opinions, there are ones which are more valid than other. Arguments are where they're steadfast and you're trying to say how the 'opponent' is wrong, and these usually suck. You're trying to win in something else, like how your political party is better, instead of coming out with the best opinion.

As a final example, is you tell me why everything I just said is literally tripe on toast with reasoning that I can get behind, I'll change my view (I won't eat it though. Tripe is nasty.). If you were to say that I suck animal penis and have the brain of the next-door-neighbour's frying pan, then that doesn't really accomplish anything.

Does anyone else's doorbell just ring randomly? Mine does it all the time. I figured it was neighborhood kids playing "ding-dong ditch" at first, but it did it one day when it was snowy outside and there weren't any footprints. Both the front and back door bells do it. The front one is hardwired, I think, and the rear door bell is a battery operated one. I've come to a few theories:

-The battery operated one could be picking up the doorbell from a neighboring house

-Short in the wiring

-House is built on top of an indian burial ground

Check your wiring. If it's caused by shorts, it's a fire hazard. If you don't know how, pay an electrician. It's going to be cheaper than a fire.

You should be using img tags around it.

[img=http://i.imgur.com/UEHVcQq.jpg]

as opposed to

if that's what you meant.

And if you're linking directly from where the image is uploaded to another site (image leeching), like going to google images, clicking an image, and using that URL, sometimes the images won't load properly, and you really should be uploading them to a separate dedicated image host first to save bandwidth on the other people's end anyway.

I don't think many reads critic reviews after a movie, they read it before a movie, to give themselves an idea if it will be good, there's critics because people want someone to put into words, eloquently, what they thought was good about it, critics generally look at a film with less bias than someone else so they're useful for that.

Critics exist because people find them useful, you may not, but others do.

I'll just say it. I hate critics.

nay, I loathe critics.

everyone should be their own critic. there's no such thing as a baseline.

if you enjoy something, then guess what? it's great! that's all there is to it. it doesn't matter how many other people enjoy it or not. it doesn't matter what any professional critic has to say about it. when it comes to the kinds of things that people get paid to review (media, entertainment, food, etc) it's always the same crap; some individual is pushing their standard of judgement onto everyone else. it's actually kind of illogical.

there's no such thing as a baseline.

if you see a standup comedian, and the comedian makes a joke that personally offends you, you're likely to give this comedian's show a bad review... which is bullsh*t because there's no such thing as good or bad when it comes to this kind of stuff.

at the end of the day, all the deep insight and careful analysis in the world by some "expert" cannot makeup for whether or not you enjoy it.

because that's the only thing that matters.

There is a difference between bad critic and a good critic. A bad critic tells you if they like something or not. A good critic does the same, but in a way that gives you some idea if you would like it.

Racism is believing that race has an effect on who you are, and that people of (insert race) share personalities, abilites/disabilities, etc.

Enjoying and laughing at race jokes doesn't mean you're racist. Whether it makes you a bad person is something you should decide.
