Ok i have a load of files from a PC game (i got hold of a opener for the archives to view/extract. etc the file) but i have a load of different formats I'm not familiar with (i'm sure some are 3d models like the map of the game and so on but after doing a load of searches i just can't find anything about them leaving me stuck with a bunch of .files types i don't know what they do/are therefore i can't exactly find what I'm after or edit them

I go ahead and list them see if anyone can aid me here (doubt it but worth a try)

So Chad Kroeger's name is now Nickelback... Well, alright then.

Anyways, my question is, since the gtaman asked why does everyone hate Nickelback, I'm going to ask, why does everyone hate the band Creed? I've only heard 1 or 2 of their songs, and while they're far from the greatest band of all time they're hardly the worst either like so many people like to make them out to be.

Just google "open *file_extension* file". Lots of files you extract from games aren't meant to be available to the public, so you're going to have a tough time if you want to find software that opens it.

And if nothing pops up immediately on Google, FileInfo is pretty good for this sort of thing.

While searching for one of your files I found this on one of those crapware sites and thought it was pretty funny:

The fastest and easiest way to open your MVF file is to double-click it. This allows the intelligence of Windows to decide the correct software application to open your MVF file.

Anyone have a link to the topic in the GTA V section concerning location? The one that was pinned, I want to see the poll results.

It may have been made by Andrew, But I don't remember, the sub-heading was "Time to bust the magic 8balls again."

Verrrrry low. In the '90s (and probably earlier) I remember the obsession with "If you watch too much TV your eyes will go square." style superstitions. But these days, with the average person spending most of their waking hours in front of some sort of screen, I think everyone's stopped worrying.

If anything, the only evidence hinting at side-effects of prolonged screen usage are for positive things like increased eye response and lowered reaction times (mainly for video-gamers).

The influence of screens on attention spans and other psychological effects are still up for debate, but I say use the computer however much you want because everybody else does it anyway. If it turns out it's bad for you, there will be so many people in the same situation it'll be pretty damn easy to get help.

I've pre-ordered a game from Amazon.co.uk for Xbox 360 and the release date is in September. It says the likely delivery arrival date will be on the release date, but are websites normally true to their word? I know a few friends that have pre-ordered games from the GAME website and their's didn't come till a couple of days later, but I'm wondering how reliable Amazon are and if anyone has or pre-orders games from their regularly.

Look back. It was the 'danger' of radiation from the CRT that caused the rumpus. Who still uses one (except in emergences) now a days?

They're as reliable as the postal service or carrier that delivers them. However if there is delays outside of this then that's where problems can occur, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release for example was a bit of cock-up all round for Amazon, but the huge majority of the time it's bang on.

What can cause delays is if the Royal Mail are crap in your area (as most games from Amazon would be via Royal Mail) as some parts of the country their service is crap. However on behalf of all people who have worked in shipping departments for retail and trade companies before, please if the item is late don't say "Well you promised it would be delivered on that day" and then blame the company for everything when clearly once they've passed it onto the courier or postal service the onus is on them and it's outwith the companies control, because post can go missing or be late. /mini-rant.

Ah, just like an unsolvable problem I have. A game I like is the kind of game I'd like to mess around with the game files, however it seems the entirety of the actual game bar the menus and selection screens and whatnot are in a .dat file. Whoopee, ambiguous file type. What's worse is that it was made in the year 2000 by a company that doesn't exist anymore, and released by a company that doesn't exist anymore, and published by a company that doesn't exist anymore. And since it's an unknown game, the only thing you can find online are ways to download it, and various youtube videos (including mine confused.gif).

AKA No modding for me.

Postal service isn't too bad in my area tbh. They're normally pretty good but I just wanted to know if Amazon were reliable which it looks like they are. Would the game need a signature or need to be signed for as some packages do?

If it's just a game in a basic case then it will normally be First Class, if the package is bigger than the average letterbox then they may send it by a recorded method and therefore might need a signature, however carriers these days apparently have carte blanche to leave parcels in 'secure' locations like 'porches' which is always an odd default location when people don't have porches, and is usually code for front doorstep where any bugger can nick it, they may also leave with a neighbour... which is fine unless you don't get on with them.

I'm in a right rambling mood tonight.

sometimes games do

I have ordered 3 games from amazon, 2 needed signatures, one did not, it was there when I arrived home from uni.

Even though it could fit through the letterbox.

My experience when ordering from Amazon.com I get a notice of the order acceptance with an expected shipping date.

Next I get a message when It is actually shipped, again with an expected deliver date AND a tracking number.

The tracking numbers will lead me to listings of:

When the carrier picked up the package from the shipper.

When the carrier received the package at their hub.

When the carrier put the package on their delivery vehicle.

Plus, when the carrier has the package in travel between hubs, if necessary.

none of my games were 18+

I think it depends on the seller, wanting verification tjat it was delivered to the right person

or the delivery company cos the 2 did not use royal mail they used a courier firm, one I have come across in this area a few times called DPD or something.

If you paid with a credit card many business operations will tend to believe the buyer is 18+.

Is it okay to report a member you think is a PBM if you're only suspicious and not 100% sure he is?

According to his profile he has been on the forum for a couple of months, but its so obvious he knows more than the average 2013 member. Not to mention that like 80-90% of his posts are in Gen Chat and of high-quality.

There's always a chance that someone has given up their old account and just started a new one. Anyway, if he's making decent posts and not being a nuisance, why not just leave it be?

IMO, that is fine - provided of course you have sufficient evidence based on their posts or their posting style that links them to possibly being a member who was previously banned.

You also have to remember though that not every member who joins the forum is going to post like they don't know the place. A lot of people frequent the forums as a guest for lengthy periods of time before joining and for this reason, these people would be more knowledgeable of the forums and likely to venture into the off topic and other areas where the more established members post. Just because a newer member posts like they know the place and in the sections where more established members are likely to frequent; doesn't necessarily mean that they are a PBM.

Hi there, PBM stands for Previously Banned Member, right? Please, go ahead and report the sh*t out of the user. I've talked to him and he is ready to get his ass checked.

He said, he's gonna wait right here for you until you bring a staff in here. Cheers.

@CallTheCoroner & TheGreatGig23: Fair enough. I guess you have a point.

Like DTUMan said, he probably just knows the place more than the average '13 member because he's been lurking for a while and hanging around Gen Chat doesn't necessarily mean that he is a PBM. Plus, he is not making any trouble. I will just leave it be for now.

Thanks for the answers, everyone. smile.gif

The post man will not take your I.d and inspect it, furthermore the post man has no f*cking clue what's in the package. The signature is only so if you claim you never received the package, they can look at the delivery record and see if it was taken to the right address and signed by therecipient.

If you are the recipient, you will not have any issue picking it up, regardless of age.
