Have A Question? V2

How come most animals (or all animals that can see) stare you in the eyes when they see\notice you?

They just do. Humans are intriguing to an animal, all humans look different so they just stare at you. Some vicious/protective animals would just stare at you to watch your next move, to make sure you're not there to cause any harm.

Also what lil weasel said.

Somewhat relating to that question, I've been meaning to know this for a while:

Do animals recognise direct eye contact?

I heard somewhere that mammals perceive eye contact as a sign of hostility, so I suppose that at least mammals do.

Yeah, cassowaries go ape sh*t if you look them in the eye. I don't mean they get a bit angry, I mean they start kicking and clawing you. nervous.gif

yes but killing them and skinning 2 of them means your wallet can carry $4000

some dogs I have encountered also go crazy if you were to make direct eye contact.

What would be a better degree to pursue. Chemical engineering or Petroleum engineering? I would prefer petroleum engineering because of the more lucrative starting pay and you get to do more in the field "get your hands dirty" work. But I'm afraid that the oil drilling field will be dead in the coming decades an I will be out of a job. Whereas chemical engineering would be more versatile and I could work in alternative energy as well as oil and my job would be more secure. But it's less lucrative and mostly lab work from what I have heard. So I'm not entirely sure yet. Could someone give me some advice?

I'm looking at this car.

I'm curious about if it's worth buying or not. I'm hoping someone could throw in their two cents on this?...

I think it would be more helpful if you posted this in Vehicle Chat:

As for the car itself, its a little bit old so it might be hard to insure and run, but its a fine car non the less. Its Japanese too, so I think it'll last.

A few mates and I decided to take out the boat and go for a ride. We ended up going down Patonga Creek, and went down pretty far before drifting over to the side and tying up the boat. We walked over to this big rock near the water, and one of my mates checked to see if it was shallow or not. It was deep, and it was pretty murky. Everyone ended up jumping into the water off the rock a few times, but we had to swim a bit to get back to the shore.

My one fear was bull sharks. Would they be any in the creek - what chance would be getting attacked or bitten?

I have heard many stories about bull sharks in creeks here is Oz. im not sure whether any of them actually true though. I suppose it depends how far inland the creek is, I doubt a shark would go too far from the open sea.

There are myths about massive sharks in the Murray-Darling basin.

It's part of the Hawksberry River the creek I was at.

There's sharks in the tweed river, apparently people have seen them like 60ks inland.

one I get my laptop up and running, I'm planning on writing a short piece of fiction on a US kill/capture raid. I was intending on using a US Navy SEAL team inserting via boat at the coast and a land force coming in by UH-60 Blackhawk, with two AH-6 Little Bird's for air cover, rotor wings courtesy of the 160th SOAR. my question is, given the two units in question (SEAL's and 160th SOAR), which "Special Operations" dubbed group would make most sense to have as the ground force?

would the soldiers of the 101st Airborne or 75th Ranger Regiment be appropriate? or would two four men Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta (Delta Force) teams led by a Captain be better, given the nature of the mission? or considering it's a SEAL op, would a unit from the Marine Corps (Force Recon, MARSOC, etc) be the correct choice? thought considering it would be chopper insert, I'm more inclined towards the 101st or Delta, depending on whether infantry or Special Forces would be more appropriate.

or, would I do better to relace the SEALs with SBS and the air insertion done by SAS? with that said, what RAF or UK Army Air Corps helicopters could you compare with the AH 6 and MH 6 Little Bird and UH 60 Black Hawk?

Yeah, I have a question. What does ''How about them apples?'' phrase mean and where did it come from?

You use it to gloat, or perhaps you might just be wondering if somebody is enjoying a piece of fruit. For example you beat somebody at arm wrestling, and you break their arm and leave them severely debilitated for life. You would retort "HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES!" possibly adding "BITCH". And according to Yahoo answers, one theory is as follows:

it originated in World War I with the "toffee apple," a kind of trench mortar bomb sometimes used to destroy tanks. We presume soldiers would say, "How you like them apples?" after an "apple" took out an enemy.

Could someone give me a quick overview of why we wen't into Iraq, it doesn't need to be in depth just a quick summary. And I remember reading something about why the "war for oil" was illogical, why was this? Thank you.

was Iraq not invaded in search of Sadam's weapons of mass destruction? or at face value that was reason for the invasion
