My farts smell rancid tonight, why is that?

What did you eat?

Edit: @NateShaw92 You can download an emulator for your PC. Look up "NES emulator" and "NES roms" (roms are games) on Google. I think there might be an emulator for iOS and Android devices as well.

I did spend £20 in this shop owned by an Indian man. He had a wide range of spicy sauces, toppings and whatnot. Ingredients include Naga chillies, all sorts. I'm surprised I haven't had the sh*ts.

I never use IE in my life. It's f*cking slow like hell. I prefer use Firefox and Google Chrome. More fast and more safe smile.gif

This question sort of intertwines with the last post.

How much of an affect on safety (virus-wise) does the Internet browser used have? Is it much compared to the actual firewall and anti-virus itself?

If so, just out of curiosity, what is the safest?

I don't think the internet browser you use makes any difference on safety. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though lol.

IE feels like an old man with Parkinson's who took the quick-starter course "Your computer and you", whereas Chrome feels like a young kid who just can't stop running because there's so much on the Internet it want's to see!

There are many things in the browser that can lead to you getting malware, the inability to block javascript is a safety concern for people who want to do that, if the browser loads plugins (like Java or Adobe Flash) immediately without asking the user you're more likely to get malware, and some browsers (like Chrome and Firefox) will warn you if you accidentally find yourself on an unsafe site (try clicking the funny pictures topic in Chrome). Also, it's kind of specific but I know that Chrome has a sandbox that won't let anything in the browser do anything to some parts of the operating system. (Sorry if I sound like a Google shill, I actually prefer Firefox for its extensions and easy customizability.)

So true. I've been using Firefox ever since I discovered it and I have never regretted switching to it.

I never liked Firefox. Chrome feels slimmed down and very basic in a good way. Kinda like the difference between Far Cry and Far Cry 3. Not too many things on screen at the same time if you catch my meaning.

When Chrome has loaded into my system (Win7) the ability to click on links is disabled. Sometimes even the Go Back won't work. So to me Chrome is crap.

one I get my laptop up and running, I'm planning on writing a short piece of fiction on a US kill/capture raid. I was intending on using a US Navy SEAL team inserting via boat at the coast and a land force coming in by UH-60 Blackhawk, with two AH-6 Little Bird's for air cover, rotor wings courtesy of the 160th SOAR. my question is, given the two units in question (SEAL's and 160th SOAR), which "Special Operations" dubbed group would make most sense to have as the ground force?

would the soldiers of the 101st Airborne or 75th Ranger Regiment be appropriate? or would two four men Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta (Delta Force) teams led by a Captain be better, given the nature of the mission? or considering it's a SEAL op, would a unit from the Marine Corps (Force Recon, MARSOC, etc) be the correct choice? thought considering it would be chopper insert, I'm more inclined towards the 101st or Delta, depending on whether infantry or Special Forces would be more appropriate.

Okay, I'm considering buying GTA:SA as a downloadable game on PS3 (I've lost my PS2 and my old fat PS3 died) but, from my memories of playing disc-version of SA on fat PS3, it signs you out when you load the game.

Does this happen with downloadable PS2 games? Specifically GTA:SA.

No, it obviously doesn't. Since it's designed to work on PS3...

Can you confirm that you're not signed out of PSN when loading San Andreas? When I google it, everyone's saying you get signed out.

Copyright issues will probably be the main cause, royalties and residuals will probably take a substantial amount of profit away from the sales of the game.

I have dreamed of becoming a cardiologist since 7th grade and I have always believed that if i worked hard enough and really had my mind set on becoming one I could. But today my dad (and his girlfriend who works in a hospital) was telling me that since I'm a white male I will have no chance of ever making it into med school no matter how high my GPA, MCAT scores and all the other jazz is. Now I know that some of those stupid affirmative action laws apply to school admissions but is it really that bad? Will I be denied entry into med school simply for being a white male or are they just trying to scare me away? Logic tells me that a school isn't going to turn away a qualified applicant just because they are a white male but that doesn't mean i still don't have concerns.

Between foreigners having much better background and affirmative action, you'll have hard time. It doesn't mean you can't get in. It just means that instead of being in top x percent, you'll have to be in top x/10 percent of applicants. That means perfect test scores, 4.0, and as much extra stuff as you can handle. You should also, most certainly, have a backup plan. Because it will be a long shot.

Study hard, expand your area. Organic chemistry, molecular biology, and Latin will give you an edge, as well as help you exercise your brain. Don't go for simple shortcuts. Make sure you get solid undergraduate education. Then you have a shot. Failure is always an option, but the only one that will haunt you is not trying.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

I am already setting up my contingency plan. But I'm still probably going to try because you never know. Its truly sad that some good applicants may get looked over in order to put lesser qualified applicants in based purely on race.

How do you calculate a projectile's energy in ft lbs given its mass and velocity? Is there a way to express the same energy in pounds per square inch?

How do you calculate a projectile's energy in ft lbs given its mass and velocity? Is there a way to express the same energy in pounds per square inch?

Energy is always (1/2)mv². However, if your velocity is in ft/s and you want to get ft lbs of energy, then mass needs to be in slugs. To make the long story short, if you have something that weighs x lbs and moves at y ft/s, then the energy is going to be x*y²/(64.4). This absorbs the conversion factor of 1/32.2 from lbs to slugs.

Pounds per square inch is unit of pressure. There is no one-to-one correspondence between pressure and energy, unless there is a specific volume involved. (For example, pressure of volume of gas in lbs/ft² * volume in ft³ of container gives you energy in ft lbs of gas in the container.) For a projectile, there is no associated volume, so asking for pressure that corresponds to projectile's energy is meaningless.

You might be interested in pressure generated during impact, but it will depend very much on how the impact happens, various qualities of material, whether the projectile penetrates, gets stuck, or bounces off... If you have a specific situation, I might be able to help further.

Yeah, this was basically what I was barking at.

I got one of those accelerometer applications on my cell phone and was basically swinging it around seeing what type of figures I could generate. Basically I started wondering if you could use it to estimate how hard a person could punch, or throw a baseball or something like that--a baseball or seeming like it would be a lot simpler.

So yeah, something like a baseball hitting a catcher's mitt, or a fist hitting a punching bag type of impact. I've always heard of these figures expressed in PSI. It would be fun to see what kind of figures I could generate myself blush.gif

I'm not even sure why they bother giving the psi readings. I've seen that done, and it's silly. It will depend on so many factors... And it really doesn't even tell you much about how hard the impact was.

Anyways, about the only thing you could reliably estimate from these readings is how far the cell phone would fly if you were to let it go. With a little bit less precision, you could estimate the speed and range of a different projectile based on what you got from the phone. It wouldn't be valid for too broad a range of masses, of course. Like, if you were to try and compute how far you'd throw the bowling ball based on phone accelerometer data, you'd be quite a bit off, simply because the muscle works a little different at different speeds, the throw would be different, etc. (Unless, of course, you get data while holding the bowling ball and the phone is taped to it, or something.) But you should be able to estimate how fast you'd throw the baseball. Roughly speaking, get energy for the phone, and compute what velocity would correspond to that energy with mass of a baseball.

Because they are telepathic and use the eyes for direct communication?
