Basically my mum mentions it from time to time due to the quote ''piggy'' except I always get it wrong and just basically say ''piggy piggy piggy'' its a long story as to why. You're breathing in smoke almost in it's entirety (usually filtered only a bit) when smoking a cigarette (or a cigar) whereas with a hookah you're smoking the vapor being essentially roasted off of the caramelized tobacco in the bowl, filtered through the water in the base and sucked through the hose into your lungs. It's still not the healthiest thing (generally speaking enjoyable, consumable things aren't), but it contains innumerably far fewer carcinogens than your average cigarette (just being smoked in larger quantities), especially when the person with the hookah doesn't know what they're doing and let the tobacco burn by either overfilling the bowl and letting the the tobacco touch the foil or letting the coals get too hot by either using the wrong size coal or not half stacking.

You are also bombarding yourself with tons of carbon monoxide and a good deal of atomized carbon, which is what really going to cause you harm. It has advantages and disadvantages compared to cigarettes. Overall, which one would do you more harm with habitual use is an open question. But if you think that you avoid risks of smoking by smoking hookah instead of cigarettes, you are naive and grossly misinformed.

Well, my friends got me into smoking hookah, I liked it, and now we go to a hookah lounge every week. (Thursday and Friday). It's the clique's signature thing, but trust me, we don't do it because of peer pressure or looking "cool", we purely enjoy it, and those of us who don't, just don't smoke (but they normally come with us). Although it might be stupid, but I don't consider myself stupid for not avoiding it, and I'll really miss it in the US.

 

But, no, my parents wouldn't even go close to a hookah, and I'm doing my best to not let them find out.
