Gunshots record perfectly with the right mic, the reason why they sound 'louder' in the film, is that as weasel pointed out, a Foley artist will have recorded gunshots or used sound effects library's, and this will be dubbed on later.

I'm not comparing Youtube recordings to film. I'm comparing either one to actual gun fire. Every recording I've ever seen that has not been dubbed over, the guns sound "muffled" compared to actual gun fire. That's true of both the gunshots in the open and on the range in both cases. And "muffled" doesn't refer to volume. Naturally, that can be adjusted. I'm talking about quality of the sound being as if muffled, which typically results in highs being reduced more than lows. A gun shot sound, being very brief, would have very wide spectral range, and even a mid-range mic will cut out the high frequencies, which can explain the "muffling". Now, I'm sure there are microphones that can record this properly, but they don't seem to be common with the kinds of productions that don't involve dubbing.

Well this is probably because of the nature of the gunshot when represented as a sound wave and also the attack times that a gunshot produces, as most audio tracks from low end to high budget films (mono - 7.1) will have an element of compression and limitation involved, simply because sound recordings need them as not everyone has kick-ass speakers.

 

One of those little 'quirks' of compressors is that they don't really like square, sawtooth and triangle waves, which would pretty much be kind of sound wave a gunshot would produce, so compressor/limiters treat them like a bitch especially at the low end which is where the compressor does its meatier work, probably why you'll get that muffled sound from a recorded gunshot, as the speed of a gunshot sound wave could potentially be a tough sound wave for the average compressor to deal with as it has a fast attack time.

 

Unless you have an uncompressed gunshot playing through high end speakers, the sound of a gun shot will always be different from the real thing, all this doesn't even mention individuals own hearing quality as not everyone has the same responses to frequencies, for example my hearing response on the 500-800 range is pretty low and my left ear is better than my right.

 

Or you could keep a gun by your side and every time someone in a film shoots you shoot at the same time for that ultimate surround sound effect.

The 'silencer' is actually refered to as a 'suppressor' for that reason.

I love it when the dialogue in movies point that out as well. Like in the A-Team.

 

I think the best example of the suppressed 'klack' I've seen in film is the execution scene at the end of the Bourne Identity.

Good point on compression. I did not even think about that. Yeah, compression algorithms aren't designed to handle anything with broad, continuous spectra. That includes gunshots and explosions. Even if you have top notch microphone and speakers, unless the sound was stored as a raw PCM, you'll end up with very serious distortion.

 

Of course, BD supports uncompressed audio, and it's probably the direction everything is moving towards, so that might not be an issue very soon.

I was gonna try explain it, but here are some screenshots below, once you type "@Dan" Then automatically it comes up with suggestions in a drop down box, same goes for in comments.

You simply click the person/page you are tagging from the drop box and it will appear as a link highlighted (You'll see in the screenshots) and they will get an event, you can also backspace their last name so only their first name is there.

 

See here how there's the dropdown?

 

And here the name is highlighted in the first one, the second one is after i backspaced it a bit to make it less formal.

Not sure about elsewhere, but here in Canada there really aren't any other than being able to run in elections for that party and being able to vote in party leadership contests.

When I had mine the pain lasted for about 3-4 days and the bleeding stopped after the first day. I found that drinking hot drinks helped to sooth my jaw but whenever they were tightened it used to hurt like hell afterwards so I just went for some pain killers. Quicker and easier relief.

In some states, you have to be affiliated with a party in order to be eligible to vote in said party's primary election. It's pretty f*cking ridiculous - I'm currently registered as a Republican so I could vote in this past spring's presidential primary election.

I want to work with politics someday so I decided to affiliate myself to the Liberal party just to see how it is to be affiliated. Currently they're in the process of choosing a new leader for that bastard McGuinty and I thought if I really wanted some political experience this would be good.

 

I ended up not joining because I don't have a Credit Card... that was needed to pay online.

No. You can only edit the actual post. You can, I think, report the post though and I'm the report ask for the poll to be changed, becasue moderators can do this.

A mod can definitely delete a poll from a thread. I think it can be edited as well. So basically, see if a lead-by for that section or a global mod would be willing to help you out with that.
