Have A Question? V2

he went to his barber every couple of weeks and got him to style it so it didn't look bad at its new length.

Would that require me to keep styling it every day thereafter?

I get what you're saying about hair falling into a kind of mould, too. I have a tuft that simply refuses to go down.

Cheers for the answer, man icon14.gif

I'd see a specialist if you can, best way to make sure a job is done right is to seek the help of an expert, if it is something you know little about.

for instance if I had a problem with my laptop i would not crack it open, and do some jiggerry pokery, i would let the computer repair shop have a look

I ahve a question, I have a portable hard drive that connects via a mini to normal usb cable, so in the hard-drive is a mini usb slot. The usb slot has come off the portable hard-drive, does anybody know how to reattach it or should I get a new one (usb slot)?

I realy need to get into this hard-drive and can't do so, thanks smile.gif

Hey

I recently got bored and pulled out some boxes from under my bed and found a lot of CDs from a while ago.

I want to import these onto my PS3, (I did this before on my first PS3 with a Prodigy CD and it worked) but on my new PS3, I put a CD in and left it there for about 10-15 seconds, and it just made weird noises.

Due to a problem with the disc drive I had before, I panicked and ejected the CD.

I'm worried about putting another one in.

So my question is, should I put the disc back in and leave it for a bit longer and it should work? Or should I try another CD?

Sorry for being a complete dumbass.

EDIT: F*ck it, my 1990s CDs are too old and scratched.

since I am hungry i will help anyway - most likely the damage you mention, but I have played discs in my ps3 which seemed f*cked but were fine, ps3 is surprisingly lenient on the quality of disc, fat more than thin but thin is better than most dvd players or computer cd rom drives or however the kids play their cds these days.

If your first ps3 was a fat and your current is a slim, it could be that, I had a similar problem, fear the click, but I think it is normal for a slim to click with a non blu-ray, is for me.

the slims can be thunderc*nts for old audio cds, dvds are fine but like old prodigy albums not so much. I have Cds from the 80s which are near museum quality that cannot work in my ps3.

if you have the contents of the album on your computer, which you would be folly not to, I suggest putting the desired songs you want on your ps3 onto a memory stick, then transfer the files over to the ps3 via the memory stick, it's what I did.

Found a Shine 7 disc and tried that, I managed to import around 10 of the songs into the PS3, but then an error occured. I guess it's because of the scratches and stuff.

LOL I just found a Snow Patrol disc, and the security sticker is still on it.

Who the f*ck bought this disc and didn't open it?

Pretty much guarentees it'll work, I guess.

Haha, It was Eyes Open.

I had a look at what would happen if I tryed importing music from the brand new disc onto the PS3. It went in normally, no funny noises.

I click import, then I sh*t myself at how loud the noise was.

best to but it on the computer lazy, then use some kind of usb memory stick to transfer it, if you have one (you will require one for gcse anyway)

is it possible for a medical professional (of any grade or experience, low or high) can any medical professional realistically confuse a haemothorax with a Pulmanery embolism.

So hereis the scenario:

patient is rushed in with chest pains, basicly all the immediate symptoms of a haemothorax. Is it possible for the doctors to go "well this sounds like a pulmanary embolism or a haemothorax or this or that, but pulmanary embolism is more common let's proceed as it is a pulmanary embolism" and proceed as such. My question is, is this realistic, do the 2 things have similar symptoms (which can be known without rechnology like pain)? would they not go right get an x-ray to confrim? 9I know time is of the escense but really X-rays these days ought to be quick right?)

or was the doctor(s) in this scenario incompetant babboon-brained f*ck-faced thunderc*nt(s)?

thank you

I'm no doctor, but they do share a number of symptoms-

Dyspnea (shortness of breath)

Tachpnea (rapid breathing)

Cyanosis (blue-purple discolouration of the skin)

Tachycardia (rapid heart rate)

Doctors and other 'medical professionals (other than techs, like surgeons) are Artists not scientists. They ‘practice’ in Medical Arts Buildings. And, For the most part they only know what they read or have been told.

They have their own peer reviews too, so a mistake may be OK by the ‘Standards of Practice’. It’s almost impossible to charge them with a crime.

Remember the old medical school motto, "Doctors can Bury their mistakes (in more ways than one)."

WF the Hobgoblin

I was watching Collateral again last night and one thing I love about Michael Mann films is the shootouts, particularly the gunshot sounds. The gunshots seem quite unique from other films/tv in that they are really loud and have a lot of impact.

Does anyone know what Mann does to achieve this?

Also as someone who has never even been near a gun, are the gunshots in his films more realistic than others or are they exaggerated?

I'm guessing, gun sounds don't record very well. Even watching videos on Youtube of actual guns being fired, they sound somewhat muffled. Perhaps, Mann did something to try and offset it. Unfortunately, the guns in Collateral end up not sounding quite right. A handgun sounds, I don't know, drier. The sounds in that movie are fuller, almost like rifle fire, even though they probably went to trouble of recording correct sound for each gun. At least, they seem to be different for different guns. Also, the sound will depend a lot on where you fire the gun. I'm only familiar with open range vs closed range, and the same gun sounds completely differently. All of the gunshots in the movie, however, seem to have been recorded at the same location.

For the most part microphone only record a sound simular to that of a Typewriter 'thack' when the letter hits the platen. Although it is possible that newer recording may have improved recordability.

Usually a 'Foley' man/woman inserts a sound that the Director likes, to replace the recorded sounds. That sound may not represent truly the actual live sound.

Gunshots record perfectly with the right mic, the reason why they sound 'louder' in the film, is that as weasel pointed out, a Foley artist will have recorded gunshots or used sound effects library's, and this will be dubbed on later. In an open air environment like a film set the gunshots would sound 'empty', so they would have recorded them in a closed studio and for flesh hits they'll use pigs, not live ones mind.

They'll also use some after effects like a little flange or phase shift for extra effect as well as the mandatory EQ.

Useless Fact of the day: Han Solo's blaster was actually the sound of a stick hitting a television mast guy rope

And once you identified a stock gunshot, it'll plague you for the rest of your days as it turns up in film after films and ruins your immersion. Like the Wilhelm Scream, or that goddamn cat yowling, certain sound effects are really overused and once you notice it once you can never unhear it.

Additional info on Gunshots. From personal Experience. The 'silenced' gunshot doesn't go 'Phitt'. At best it will be the metalic sound of hammer, and slide movement (Click, Klack, Clack) at worst it will be a BANG!. You can't 'silence' a revolver (except a certain Russian antique).

The 'silencer' is actually refered to as a 'suppressor' for that reason.

I'm not comparing Youtube recordings to film. I'm comparing either one to actual gun fire. Every recording I've ever seen that has not been dubbed over, the guns sound "muffled" compared to actual gun fire. That's true of both the gunshots in the open and on the range in both cases. And "muffled" doesn't refer to volume. Naturally, that can be adjusted. I'm talking about quality of the sound being as if muffled, which typically results in highs being reduced more than lows. A gun shot sound, being very brief, would have very wide spectral range, and even a mid-range mic will cut out the high frequencies, which can explain the "muffling". Now, I'm sure there are microphones that can record this properly, but they don't seem to be common with the kinds of productions that don't involve dubbing.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
