where the hell have the mods gone from the V forum?

They're still there? I suppose you mean that the mods there haven't done much activity lately. Well yeah, but that's because of the lack of information about GTA V. Once something comes out, the place will blow up again.

no I meant I don't expect to have to close Chrome every time my sister walks by because there's porn pictures all over one of the threads. it's been fixed now though, so thanks mods.

Thanks Nate! I was actually playing around with it today and figured out the equation (remembering a part of it was x-1 helped a lot), although I couldn't find the name of it.

And thanks K^2, I wasn't sure how to break it down into an equation properly, I just kinda threw familiar looking equations onto a calculator until I got it.

Since we're talking about math, I always wondered if there's some sort of "rule" about exponentiation. Because I think that about everyone is explained that x^2 = x*x. But how about x^0,5 = sqroot(x), x^-1 = 1/x and -x^0,5 etc. Is there some rule that counts for all?

there are a few rules regarding indices (don't know if this is what you mean but these are the rules regarding indices that I know)

rule one

x^a * x^b = x^(a+b)

so 2^4 * 2^6 = 2^10 (1024)

rule 2

x^a / x^b = x^(a-b)

so 2^7 / 2^3 = 2^4 (16)

rule 3

(x^a)^b = x^(a*b) or x^ab if we are being algebraic

so (3^3)^2 = 3^6 (729)

more complex examples

mx^a * nx^b = mnx^(a+b)

so 3x^2 * 4x^5 = 12x^7

mx^a / nx^b = (m/n)x^(a-b)

so 6x^4 / 3x^2 = 2x^2

rule 4

x^-a = 1/(x^a)

so as you said x^-1 = 1/x

or x^-5 = 1/(x^5)

e.g. 2^-3

= 1/2^3

= 1/8 (0.125)

something to add to this:

basicly for this we use the reciprocal of x

so say if we have 2/3^-4

then that is equal to 3/2^4 - a reciprocal is jsut when you turn a fraction upside-down, reciprocal of 3 is 1/3 as 3 = 3/1 if you put it in fraction form, so reciprocal of 1/2 = 2

which is (3^4)/(2^4) = 81/16

rule 5

x^(1/n) = nroot x

so as you said x^(1/2) = square root x

x^(1/3) = cube root x

e.g. 27^1/3 = cube root 27 = 3

rule 6 (really an extention on rule 5 but whatever)

x^(m/n) = (nroot x)^m

so x^(3/2) = (square root x)^3

e.g. 9^3/2 = square root 9 cubed

= 3^3

= 27

these are the only rules of indices I know, if you meant more like 2^5 = 32 being found shorthand without doing 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, i do not think there is a way to do that without multiplying out, not that I can remember, so one simple rule for that, use a calculator tounge.gif like if you get 15^7 and you want to know what it is, one rule, calculator.

jsut use the basis of what you said before and these rules and you won't go wrong, if you see a fraction where the numberator is 1 then consult rule 5, if the numerator (top number) is not 1, then consult rule 6. If you have a negative undex number consult rule 4, and so on and so forth. Sometimes there is not one single function that will give you the answer, sometimes you have to remmeber several and use the relevent one, or maybe more than 1 in more complex problems, for instance if the index number is a negative fraction you will need both rules 4 and 5 (or6). Algebra is a son-of-a-bitch for making you do that, and calculus is even worse for that, although calculus is not hard, not really, you just have to remember several rules and only use the relevant one of them in the problem (most of the time, as I said more complex ones will get you to do 2 or more of these rules)

If i could make it actually look proper I would but I don't know how to get the little numbers above the big number like an actual index number, I try copying from word, does not work, so you are just gonna have to manage

and this is by no means extensive, i think everything needed is here, the basis of the rules and such, but I could easilly go on for pages (not going to) giving you all the ins and outs and possible combinations of examples so thorough that a mathematically challenged individual would be able to understand it quite easilly (limke I did with my a-level notes), but I am assuming you know a bit already and I would rather not spend all that time.

where the hell have the mods gone from the V forum?

It's a problem of enforcement, rather than presence. We need to be stricter about people who post crap, but Leadbys can't hand out bans. You have to go through the mods for that. When I come across something that's a definite problem, I edit-out offending content, and I do report the user. But it's almost impossible to be sorting through all of the posts, or even all of the reports, when most reports you can't do anything about, you know?

Ask mods to give Leadbys in V section a power to hand out temp-bans, and we'll sort the place. Otherwise, our hands are tied.

a^b is defined as Exp(b*Ln(a)), where Exp(x) is a solution to differential equation d/dx Exp(x) = Exp(x) with boundary condition Exp(0)=1 and Ln(x) is an inverse function defined as Ln(Exp(x))=x.

It is possible to show that Exp(1) = e, and therefore, by above definition, Exp(x) = e^x, where e is an irrational number, called Euler's Number, and is approximately 2.718281828...

The function Exp(x) can be represented as a limit of (1+x/n)ⁿ as n goes to infinity, or as an infinite series Exp(x) = 1 + x + x²/2 + x³/6 + ... + xⁿ/n! + ...

the denominators are faccotrials 2! = 1 x 2 = 2

and 3! (3 factorial) = 1 x 2 x 3 = 6

4! (4 factorial) = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 = 24

thought I should mention that just in case people wonder where the 2 or 6 come from

yeah, but less mathematically able people will be like " why is there an exclaimation point there" wink.gif trust me i know this, you have no idea how many times a mate of mine has said "why did you put an exclaimation mark for the 4, is it cos it is important?" Plus I like being thorough

ah that's good, I won't have to hunt you down then, I was mainly talking about others, i gathered you might know as you have an interest in maths wink.gif

seriously if one more person were to ask me why use exclaimation marks after numbers they better be on a different continent

and f*ck you gta community (I do not mean it, it is a joking f*ck you) you got me interested in maths again (lost interest for a while)

The server is set to irc.gtanet.com/gta, right? Not just the title?

If that's not it, sorry, I'm not too great with IRC either.

@Double L. (You're below me, but that cannot stop the flow of information!)

Another suggestion, it'll come out as really awkward, but you might want to tell her how you feel. Explain why you're tense to her. She seems pretty understanding from how she dealt with how tense you were. It might break the problem because it's out there, and it'll give you a bit more confidence when talking to her. Good luck. smile.gif

Thanks a lot. Yes you're right. But Girish if i tell her "i am gay" All school think "i am gay". My classmates will be hate me. In my county, people don't love gay people. So i can't try this way.(By the way i am not gay.) Yesterday, she came my desk and talk to me. But i strain too much. I don't love her but she said "OK you're tense talk to later" K^2 and zoo3891 your thinks like each other. Maybe this way is true i don't know. I talk to with her on Facebook very easly. But in real life i can't. I want to speak on friendships or common subjects but i can't this is my problem. Shy, timid and anxious. You're right K^2. Sometimes when i talking to a girl. My brain says "OMG I talking to a girl". I have to destroy this thing in my brain. Thank you guys again. turn.gif

My brain says "OMG I talking to a girl". I have to destroy this thing in my brain.

It's god to know I'm not the only one like that.

It's almost as if they're a different creature, even though they're just the opposite sex. You can't destroy that message, you just have to overcome it. I only have trouble when I'm talking to them for the first time. If I've known them for a while, then it's no problem. Even then, I'm still worried if they look good.

Los Santos Pedestrian

After a few attempts at trial and error at being able to play GTA IV with more than 10 FPS, I'm going to try a few mods that should improve the performance. Should I re-install it using my retail version I bought online, which has to install 99999999999 updates before I can play, or just buy it again on Steam?

I am just like you I guess but I've had a bit of practice now and then, but I am still quite nervous. I actually finally managed to talk with this girl I fancied today. I was "going for a walk" and I met her and luckily she was sitting alone waiting for a girl friend (which strangely enough didn't show up). The conversation was kinda awkward at times but we talked for like half an hour or more. She's really beautiful and smarter than I thought, I was really surprised. In fact I was so surprised that from now on I will stop underestimating people.

I guess I was lucky because she likes to talk a lot and we know each other as we are neighbors (she lives right next to me) but you should try your best and talk to the girl you like. If you are like me, the awkwardness and nervousness will go away as you talk more and more. Whatever you talk just talk and you will feel more comfortable.

It's almost as if they're a different creature

The male and female brains are physically wired differently. Effectively, all the same capabilities, but the actual though process is a little different. The practical difference is more like talking to somebody from a different culture. Some translation/interpretation will always be required. But it's nothing you can't figure out if you are observant.

When an auction finishes, will they automatically charge me or do I still have to do any tinkering around? It all seems a bit complicated at the moment.

Alright, so this question may be stupid (or not, your call), but please bear with me here. I own and use a PlayStation 3 slim model and I was wondering since it doesn't play PS2 games (discs for that matter), will it play PS2 games I purchase and/or download off the PS Store? I was curious as I'm thinking about buying Shadow of the Colossus for the nostalgia.
