Have A Question? V2

Would it ever be possible for a machine, be it a computer or some form of robot, to have free will? And if that was the case, would they cease to be considered a human invention and become a seperate species?

Theoretically yes, and for the second question no.

Yes to free will the basis for the programming is already been made now cry.gif and no to being a separate species, unless they fulfilled the criteria for life (see below), but they would still be considered a a human invention, as without the human species they wouldn't have come into existence so by default they are a product of humankind.

1  All life forms contain deoxyribonucleic (dee ahk' rye boh klay' ik) acid, which is called DNA.

2  All life forms have a method by which they extract energy from their surroundings and convert it into energy that sustains them.

3  All life forms can sense changes in their surroundings and respond to those changes.

4  All life forms reproduce.

Can someone tell me what the deal is with certain eBay sellers where I would purchase something from them and when it's in purchase history. There are the two feedback icons. 'Feedback not left' & 'Feedback not received' - common sense refers to when you leave feedback and when the buyer has seen it and been notified whether it was positive or negative.

However on one seller the 'received feedback' has been activated before the feedback left? Is it just the buyer demanding to get positive reviews and if you don't leave one at all it'll still count as positive and can only be negated if the buyer writes a negative review? That seems like cheating the feedback rating system.

I wouldn't really say it's cheating the system. They're just giving you feedback on you from their perspective as a seller. If you want to give negative feedback on them as the buyer, there's nothing stopping you.

It goods to build up good buyer feedback, once I ordered some festival tickets but didn't pay straight the way however he mailed them to me straight the way so I could get them on time because I had good buyer feedback. Very nice guy for doing that as well

Do iPhone users really use Siri like depicted in the tv adverts where Siri seems to have control over your life's schedule and surroundings, or do they just use it for the first day asking it stupid questions?

I don't even use the voice recognition software in Android 'cause I find it to be too cheesy. I'm definitely not going to be shouting into my phone asking it to dial/find stuff for me when in a public place, at least. I've never seen anyone else use it either.

This is pretty accurate, I will tell Siri to play a song on occasion but that's about it, and certainly not in public!

I certainly don't use voice on my Android, Siri is better, particularly useful for sending drunk texts, but I still wouldn't talk into my phone making commands, it's faster to faster to Swype whatever it is I need to do.

EDIT: I use an Adblocker as of 5 minutes ago for YT because videos like to play up so i refresh, but it gets annoying having to watch the ad again.

To my question, will this stop YT and whoever i am watching from earning revenue? I don't really want that, if they put out good content i will watch the advertisement if it earns them money.

How do they get actors to cry on cue?

Some actors use eyedrops . They also use gycerine mist which when blown into your eyes can make you cry tears.

But for some actors, crying comes in handy as they get pretty used to it.

Not at all.

I use voice-to-text for messaging, sometimes.

How do they get actors to cry on cue?

http://plays.about.com/od/basics/ht/How-To...g-And-Tears.htm

When I was small, I used to think they used onions to make them cry. Not sure if that's true.

I've never heard of onions to make actors cry. It wouldn't surprise me though.

A vast majority of professional actors can cry on demand because they are that used to it and can "train" themselves to.

In the days of olde, yes, especially women. They would hide the slice in a handkerchief and squeeze it when they held it up to their eyes. Now most think of a sad happening, like thier dog dying to 'emote'.

It's just something you learn. No different from contracting a muscle or belching on command. I can do it and I don't have to think about anything in particular.

Hey guys, does anyone know of a good site/program to make animated gifs from video? I've done some searching on the google machine but most sites usually leave a watermark or are extremely poor quality. Any help is greatly appreciated! smile.gif

The way YouTube and their partners (channels) earn revenue is from ad clicks. Companies or whatever buy a certain amount of clicks for their ads. YouTube is paid by companies. Now partner channels, they have the option to monetize, that is to earn revenue from ads created by YouTube\Google which are paid for by companies.

If you don't intend to click on these ads, disabling them will not make a difference. They only earn money if the ad is clicked.

I personally have never ever clicked an ad on a video.

VirtualDUB is a free video editing program that can save videos as GIFs. It's quite confusing and only supports certain video types but it's the best alternative to those website converters. Someone made a tutorial on how to use it for animated avatars here.

You can follow the tutorial SmC posted or you can post the video and the timeline here and we will do it for you.

How do they get actors to cry on cue?

All sorts of ways

1) Onions (Cutting prior to the scene)

2) Just thinking of something sad (Like how their acting isn't going to win them an Oscar)

3) Glycerine (Not the the Nitro version)

4) Water Drops (Boring, looks cheap and doesn't redden the eyes)

5) (My personal favorite) Hand in the pocket with a pair of tweezers, plucking out a few ol' curlys.

evening all,

Would someone be so kind as to inform me who jimmy is and why everyone hates him ? I see his name getting thrown about and its always made me curious.

Jimmy is just a banned member who used to make a lot of accounts back in summer 2011 to troll around. Besides, he was finally shut down and was made a prank on by members here, that's why so many people talk and remember of him, but more I can't tell. ph34r.gif

I'm pretty sure it was Jimmy who hacked Josh's account too. Although if you know what his password was, it would hardly be considered "hacking".

I am not so sure it is just clicks anymore, possibly just for the pop ups that you can "X" out of, but the tv commercial-like advertisements even if you don't click them will probably embed themselves in your head and familiarise yourself with the brand so subconsciously you choose it over another brand, television advertising isn't pay per click, and people pay a lot of money for it.

Possibly there is a bonus for clicking, but i don't think that's all of it.

Yep, I read somewhere on the net that youtube pays $2.50 per 1000 views (But i'm not 100% sure) smile.gif

edit: oh you meant ad views, ah thought that was factored into vid views as some ads just show up without your permission but some can be killed after 6 seconds

cos nobody really clicks youtube ads, they despise the ads and want to get to the video, jsut like television, we all ant to kill the go compare man

I didn't think about those ads. You are most likely right about that, because they are so similar to TV commercials.

In all honesty however, I don't really care. It's not like one person (you) will make them a "fortune" from advertising. It's an insignificant sum.

@NateShaw92 Not all videos feature the same ads. Those video ads are rarer than the normal image ads. Even if that price is right, not even half of those views will contain an ad like that, I don't think so. Most of the ads are the kind where you have to click on them and most people don't click on them.

It is mainly used by people aged between 25 to 40 working in offices.

Really. I work in an office where everyone has the newest iPhone(we get whatever phone we want for free) and I have never seen anyone use siri tounge2.gif.

New question:

Is there some easy to find setting in gmail to stop it from threading conversations? I like that feature, but it gets all out of whack when communicating with someone who doesn't use gmail. My real time example would be my emails with Slamman. If he decides to answer and old email from me, it gets lost in the middle of the nested thread look.

And since I mentioned Slamman. What is the official rule(s) he broke to get the second perma-ban?
