Have A Question? V2

Well, Method asked a question earlier today. Anyone ?

Is it against the rules to put a watermark on a request you do in the GFX section and ask the user if they would like to use it they need to pay a fee for it to be removed?

I've seen this a lot lately and I feel as if it isn't right - the graphics section if there to help people in need, not to make money off of a mediocre graphic. tounge.gif

To answer his question, Slamman was a member here for a decade who was well known for his nonsensical spam and large amount of postings. He is banned now, sadly. cryani.gif

There is no rule against watermarks. If someone helps you and wants to leave a watermark you should accept it, otherwise make your own stuff.

It is very right to do that. It's their creation therefore they have the right to ask money for it. There's no forum rule against that either.

I think a whole Topic dedicated to Slamman should be published, and Pinned. What with all the interest he seems to raise.

And, as far as drugs is concered, you people, should start considering euthanasia for us old people before we spend your tax money on worthless medical care? The old saying was "Don't Trust Anyone over 30." It still apllies today. icon14.gif

Well I think the mods and admins just want him forgotten, kinda like whats-his-face (aka Demarest)

and I did not mean medicinal, I meant purely recreational lol.gif

and in answer to question it is right to do that, very right, you don't like it make your own sig smile.gif

personally if i was technical and could do that kinda shazizzle (only time I will ever use that word I promise) then I would not do a watermark though. smile.gif

If you don't mind looking like a total dick that is. The GFX Requests forum is there to help out requesters as it is artists, giving them easy inspiration to play with. If you really want to make money off your art a GFX Request forum is not the place to do it. If it's good enough to be worth money maybe you should be doing it as a formal job.

Leaving a little watermark for member signatures is fine i think, a very small one so people recognize their work.

Asking for money to remove it is kinda lame though, it should just be discrete to show who made it and if someone doesn't want it, to bad.

(In regards to Slamman)

Well I think the mods and admins just want him forgotten, kinda like whats-his-face (aka Demarest)

Big difference there, Slamman just confused/annoyed/bemused/spammed/antagonized/annoyed/irked/off-topic-ed everyone, where as Demmy maybe rubbed a few people the wrong way (usually they rubbed themselves the wrong way and blamed Dem) or there were rumors spread around about this that and the next thing, but Dem was a Grade A class modder, in my opinion, who was always willing to help you out with modding issues, and did a lot for the GTA community as a result of this. Probably why in my opinion he shouldn't be forgotten for all these right reasons, if even if folk keep bringing up other stuff confused.gif

Do all devices in a household have the same IP address?

It depends on the device and if it needs to access the internet, there are huge amount of devices these days that want to connect to the internet (like Fridges mercie_blink.gif ) hence the need to introduce IPv6 in increase the amount of possible IP addresses as we were running out of IPv4 addresses.

Do all devices in a household have the same IP address?

All devices have different actual IP addresses, yes. They should all have different assigned network IPs as well. So a PC might have the IP address 123.123.45.45, but the router would allocate it as 192.68.1.2, for example.

Do all devices in a household have the same IP address?

If they are connected through the same router, to the outside world they will all have the same address. That is, the address of the router. But on the local network, each one has a different address for the router to distinguish them. So it depends on where you're trying to reach the device from.

Speaking of networks and modems\routers, can you connect more than one PC to a modem with only one LAN entry? I have heard that you can use a thing called switch to "split" the cable but it doesn't really make sense to me because it seems that both devices hooked to that connection would have the same IP.

It depends on the bandwidth that the IP allows.

Totally.

Here is an example: It is my home network.

1. Modem has one ethernet port that is connected to (2.) the router. (2) the router is connected to (3) a switch. All the upstairs computers are plugged into that switch along with a long cat5 cable that goes downstairs to picture 2 and lands at (4) the switch down there...then (5) a wireless access point is plugged into that switch to support wireless. My xbox used to be plugged into the downstairs switch but I changed my xbox over to wireless because I was too lazy to make a new cable for my jukebox(that needs to be on the home network).

On a home network with just one LAN port available you could daisy chain switches all the way up to 254 possible connections...so to speak.

Edit:

I should have mentioned the (2) the router is the important key to the whole thing. It assigns all the IPS to anything that is plugged into the network - then it NATs each individual device to the one IP assigned to you by your ISP for internet use.

Technically, it's a good way to make money. But considering the majority of graphic here are produced in good spirits and for free, it's a dick move. Not against the rules, but more against the 'culture'.

I have two questions.

1) Is there such a device or method to boost Wi-Fi signal?

2) Recently I have become addicted to Gem Club. I find their music to be perfectly suited to my taste. So if anyone knows of them, could you possibly recommend similar artists so I can indulge myself in this amazing sound?

Thanks in advance. All help is greatly appreciated.

2 for 1 Question Time:

Question 1 @trip: How much for your Star Wars Lunchbox? inlove.gif

Serious Question 2: Does anybody have any good recommendations for good video editing software, more precisely one that will keep the video in the exactly the same format/resolution/codec/etc but I can replace the audio track with something better?

Any level of software will do ph34r.gif

I used windows movie maker for my fallout NV vids, it is not exactly super duper but it gets the job done, and it is simple to use. If, like me, you are not a techie then that would be one way to go, however if you are good with computers you may want some better software, I don't know any off the top of my head but mr google does

here is a comparison website listing the top 10

http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

CyberLink Power Director has good reviews and is half the price of most of those top 10, but as guy below me says the sony one is very good, a friend of mine uses it in his channel.

Movie maker does the job (windows 7 doesn't have it but you can download it for free, live movie maker is called), and if you want a more advanced software then go for Sony Vegas 10.

I think Sony Vegas Pro keeps them in the same format and is super easy to just dub over audio if you dont want to mess with anything else...I uh required a full version from a friend and loved how easy it was to use.

Aye, perhaps Windows Movie Maker is your best bet. A bit simple, and limited, but it gets around.

Here's a couple more:

Wax

AVS

Cinefx

VideoPad

Lightworks

All good, Lightworks looks particularly good, I'd start there. wink.gif

Of course there's always Sony Vegas, but it's quite expensive, and a bit more complicated.

I've tried the Windows Live Movie maker and thought it was cack (especially compared to it predecessors) , besides it didn't want to keep the same video format, and wanted to compress it... kinda useless for a 720p mkv file.

I'll have a look into Vegas as it seems to be a popular choice.

VirtualDub will let you do direct stream copy for the video, while doing full processing for audio, letting you replace the audio without any loss to video quality due to re-compression artifacts or whatnot.

The downside is that Virtual Dub only supports .avi encapsulation. So you'll first have to convert the video to AVI. There are a number of tools that will let you change encapsulation without altering the stream, however. I think, Rad Video Tools might do this.

That's exactly what I'm after doing (although not with an Urdu film), I'll tinker with that later to see if I can get it to work smile.gif

Is there a medicine to slow down thoughts? I've been thinking too much lately. I mean, I just can't control my mind. If not a medicine then some other way to just make my mind blank for sometime?
