Can I use an Australian Debit Card to pay for things on Steam where it's all USD? (I'm aware of AUD to USD differences)

I don't know much about Steam Games but are they better than the Retail Version or worse? I see many of them having it as Steam and I have also heard that some features can't be installed in Steam Version Games like mods, etc. What would you take if you come up in this choice?

Of course you can, if the card can be used anywhere else online.

 

@Dr.John13 The thing about games bought from Steam is that you can play them without having to insert any disc in. I'm not sure if you can play them if your internet is down though. I don't know if you can mod games, I haven't tried that and the only game I own on Steam is GTA III.

You should be able to. You will pay an EXCHANGE fee, beyond the exchange rate.

But, From what I see in the Trouble-Shooting forums and other q&a forums.

DON't Buy a download game. There are all too many problems getting the run.

It's usually the same version. Patching and installation process is a bit more streamlined, usually, but otherwise, you'll see no differences.

 

A few games are more difficult to mod on Steam. In some cases, you have to disable automatic updating or something like that, but there is always a workaround. Most games mod exactly the same on Steam as without it.

 

Besides that, the only real difference is most games come with achievements, cloud support, and a few other features to make on-line experience better.

 

If you don't have persistent high speed internet connection, using Steam can be a bit of a pain. If you do, it's pretty much the best way to play PC games. Makes PC gaming more convenient than console gaming these days.

it is the closing hours of the summer sale, so games are cheap as hell

that's why they are asking I bet, and why they using steam right now - but I agree download games are sh*t at times and no money back =/ but google always has a solution

and how come you see things in USD on steam? i see it in pounds sterling here in UK, u sure it is not actually aus dollars - things are like half off or 75% off for the sale so if you see a game at 10 aus dollars - that's why

Lately I've been reading Bill Bryson's books somewhat rampantly. I think it's fair to say that I love the man's work very much. I'll be starting my 6th book sometime soon and will eventually read everything he's done. Unfortunately this means that a day will come in which I will have no more of his books to devour.

 

So does anyone know of any authors who are quite similar to Mr. Bryson? I'd like the same sort of mixture of funny, well written work with plenty of nice little facts thrown in here and there. The more I can learn from it the better but I'd like it delivered in the same casual tone of Bill Bryson.

 

If you're not familiar with his work, I highly recommend you give it a go. A great book to start you off would be either A Short History of Nearly Everything

or The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. Both books are absolutely brilliant, witty and very informative.

Well, I have a spell checker. I'm not sure how it works, but I think only specific browsers have it or something. I'm using FireFox.
