Xbox Addict dies From Blood Clot

Recommended Posts

They're blaming games for this. I hope they realize that one also stays sitting in the same position for several hours while doing homework or office work or anything of the sort.

Unless that's somehow different, in which case I'll repeal that statement.

Anyways, it really if a pity that he died.

Suggest you read the BBC news article rather then the sensationalist yahoo one. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south...kshire-14350216

They are not blaming games for it, merely warning other users that it is entirely possible to get DVT from playing games for along period of time without movement. Much like it is the same to get it in an office based job where you don't move.

I just wonder how he doesn't get bored.

I can play CoD or CS:S or other shooters for hours on end, but I usually switch out the game type after about 3 hours. Like, from a shooter to a game to Sim City or the Sims.

By the soundsof it he was obese or I doubt this would have happened

Before you post such sh*te, please read into the articles posted and DVT in general. You'll find the DVT occurs when your legs are bent in the same position for hours at a time. People on long haul flights as susceptible to it.

Obviously thats terrible news to hear, saw this in the newspaper a couple days back.

But there is no way that its the consoles or games fault for this happening, i never remember logging into Xbox live and receiving this message:

" Play me for 12 hours today without taking a break"

Sitting down for that length of time everyday is not good news, i thought it was common knowledge now that taking regular breaks from these marathon gaming sessions is vital, to avoid incidences like this one

I always move, even when I sit. I can't sit like a normal person, I have to wiggle around. I guess I shouldn't try to fix that then.

Well can you imagine this happeningto a fit and healthy person?

Any idea what he played? I'm willing to pay good money on anything that has me hooked for half a day with todays games. Seriously, how was he able to sit in one spot for so long? That's crazy.

Thrombus at such an early age. It has next to no symptoms either a far a i know. Shame really.

I read Halo in the newspaper

I know this sounds pretty insenstive, but it does say in the manauls about health warnings

Isn't it take a 15 minute break every 1 hours of play? It could have been avoided.

I know its easier said than done, I for one spent most of my time yesterday playing New Vegas, I always sit for 3-4 hours and not relise how much time has passed. Although I do tend to go outside, stetch my legs for half an hour.

Anyway, Its a shame he passed away

I got edema in my feet when I was standing too long, back in the Wifi Hotspot days, it was like trying to hold an antenna to get a signal in a sweetspot. After a rather involved DR visit, I found I had also suffered from high salt intake.

In my case, had to elevate my feet when laying down, and take some pills. Still have those if I need them, but oddly I avoided that again (it's noticeable swelling of your entire foot)

This isn't on topic and it isn't warranted in this thread. You're getting worse.

Yes and it has happened, have you read in to DVT? If so you'll find the DVT can affect anyone at all. It doesn't matter if you're fit and healthy or not. Hell I could probably get it at work if I didn't keep moving around the office.

Sad to see anyone die that young, but let's be honest, you're asking for trouble if you're doing any sedentary activity for extended periods of time on a regular basis, hence all the H&S stuff office workers get bombarded with. Whether the ill effects are quite quick and fatal like this case, or long term negatives, no real good can come of it. That sort if lifestyle's just a ticking timebomb really.

E: Just realised that I've been extremely paranoid about stuff like this since I saw the story the other day. Haven't been able to sit at the computer for more than 15 minutes without feeling compelled to walk about the house for a bit.

Yeah, I was the same with Fallout 3 (not really got into NV yet) I could be playing for a couple of hours, look at the time and wow - eight hours had flown by...and I'd hardly even done anything!

Can't think of another game that has me lost in gaming in the same manner, certainly not online matchplay. It's made me think about Skyrim tho, I know that's going to be sucking the time out of my life.

Anyway, RIP.

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MURDER IN NORWAY!?!?!

THAT GUY PLAYED CALL OF DUTY AND MAYBE OTHER GAMES AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111

Oh sorry, I thought we were blaming random sh*t on the gaming industry.

Do you know how to read? Seriously.

The guys dad said he does not blame the gaming industry at all he was just trying to make people more aware of the fact if you want to sit on your ass for 12 hours a day playing a game you need to take breaks throughout that time period so you dont end up dying like his son did.

@Topic - I can understand the 12 hours if he really likes the game, but not getting up for long periods of time is a little disturbing to me. I cant got at least 30/40 minutes at a time without having to get up from playing to grab a drink/food go to the toilet or just generally have a break and socialize.

I've had longer sessions than 12 hours many, many times including recently, but the difference is that every once in a while I move around a little for food/drink/bathroom.

I saw this when I was working yesterday and The Sun's front page was titled DEATH BY XBOX.. sigh. It's a shame that this guy died, but this could have happened if he was reading a book for 12 hours without moving.

G The Generous

oh great !

now i'm sure that few days later this new will came up in my country and my parent will bla bla bla about this sh*t.

I could just handle about 7-8 hours if the game is way too excited (Witcher, Mass Effect, Fallout,... damn those games were real addict icon14.gif ). but usually i play about 2-3 hours, and then surfing internet about 1 hour or more, and then play some games again, and then on and on.

most of parents think that children keep playing games all days. because they have no ideas what the hell we did in the computer, back in my days even i spend most of my time for internet but they keep blame me i'm a game addiction whatsthat.gif .

then i think there isn't any different between video games and TV television since they're used for entertainment and are have same thing like sex,violence,horror,... the different in games is that you can control it and do thing that you couldn't do in normal life. but then what is the different when some dude watched violence movie and then killed someone? no one blame movies for that whatsthat.gif

seriously, people shouldn't blame games for many sh*t reason because it's contain violence material. thanks God that people still developing for us some good games anyway turn.gif . without these violence games maybe i'm just a pussy back in junior high school.

Isn't that exactly the same thing that happened in this episode of 1000 Ways to Die?

I almost lost my faith in that show for changing a lot of the facts of the deaths but they predicted a death before it happened... what?
