A Car Dealership?

Hello everyone,

I have an idea for GTA 5 that I've suggested twice before in this forum in other people's threads, but I would like to know what you all think of it.

This is my idea:

The game should have several car dealerships, where you can buy cars that range from domestically-produced old clunkers to brand new high-end imported luxury cars at REALISTIC prices. For example, the Infernus (modeled after the Lamborghini Murcielago) would cost around $270,000, just like in real-life. Now, I know there was a dealership in GTA CW, but it knda sucked, since you would lose your cars permanently when they were destroyed and you had to completely pay for a new one. I think that we should be able to buy these cars and then, when they are damaged, we can take them to a pay 'n spray like normal, but if they're severely damaged, like hit with a rocket launcher, then we should have the option of using the in-game cell phone to call a body shop to tow the car and repair it, charging different prices based on which parts of the car are damaged and the severity. Then, after a few in game days, you can pick it up and use it again! Also, say you abandon your car in the middle of the street and then go to another part of the city. Well, off-screen, a tow truck should take your car to a junkyard/impound lot, and you should be able to call the location in order to have the car towed back to your house.. Of course this feature would only be for cars purchased from the dealerships. This idea, coupled with the return of mod garages, would HEAVILY improve gameplay, in my opinion.

So please, give me your're opinions on this idea, and if you don't like it, tell me if there is a way it could be improved.

Having your car towed and repaired is a bit much. The system they had in Scarface would be good enough. You can buy cars and call up your driver who would drop it off.

That would be cool, but rather than just being able to steal them like in GTA VC and GTA SA you should have to buy them for a fair/realistic amount of money.

A comet in GTA IV main storyline was almost impossible for me to find, so i suppose it would be good, but only for some cars as some you find on the street all the time, even most high end car like the infernus are pretty common so it would be pretty pointless overall. unless they included like tanks and dirt cars and vehicles like that.

I suppose it would be nice if they add it for a little extra realism, and maybe have a few side-missions for it. As long as it doesn't take any focus off of the real gameplay.

Yeah, I remember when I was playing the missions in GTA 4 and I got the orange Infernus from Bernie, but then it ended up getting blown up............I was pissed. I want something like this so that we actually get permanent ownership of some cars in the game.

Haha, thats why I just leave my awesome cars in their parking space. That is until they randomly disappear confused.gif

Cool idea, would be really nice if IV had this, so we could actually have something to spend our money on dozingoff.gif

Like in Saint's Row.... I totally agree!

Yeah Saints Row 2 has this car dealer feature and it's work very well in the game. Why not in GTAV. Totally agree.. icon14.gif

Say you go spend sh*tloads on your new car and do it up.

Then you take it for a drive and mess it up...money wasted right?

You should be able to save cars to the garage, you mess them up, simply pay a small fee (say $1000) and you get your car back in mint condition.

Great way to have more things to spend on in game.

I prefer just doing the health cheat in a car, that usually sorts it

Ya but the only problem is that in gta world, 1$ is worth a lot less than reality. I do think that this would be a good idea only at more gta like prices.

There should be seperate dealerships for the seperate brands and combined dealerships for sister brands ie. Shyster and Bravado. There could be dealerships specialising in exotics or muscle cars aswell as cheap old bangers. When buying a new car we should be able to spec the exterior and interior colours and trim options, to make actually purchasing a car worthwhile as opposed to simply stealing one. If (sorry, WHEN) you trash your car you can P&S as normal and if it's destroyed you can get it back in mint condition after a day or two PLUS a similar courtesy car for use in the meantime, provided you chose to pay for (in)appropriately priced insurance when you bought it.

The system will only make sense if we are allowed to keep a Main car at all times; one that always appears on the map and could even serve as a mobile safehouse. Such a main car would have to be bought, not stolen.

FYI, there were three car dealerships in GTA4; AutoErotica, one for Turismos and a bike one. You couldn't buy anything though.

Its a nice idea, but not one practical.

Personally, I'd love a Clay in TLAD sort of friend, who drives you cars when you demand. That would be awesome. And you unlock cars through the story or through some sort Gang War sort of thing. Could be cool.

RDR had it right with horse deeds. Once you had bought the horse, you could always have it when you needed it. They could do the same in GTA, you buy a car and it keeps spawning at one of your safehouses. I hate when I find a beautiful car, either I drive it and risk messing it up or it just stays in the garage/parking spot.

I would Hate to spend that much money on a car though, think how many missions you would do to reach that amount of cash, then spend it all on 1 car suicidal.gif Then go back to being totally broke again, why not just steal it?

I love this idea. To address the concerns about some vehicles being readily available in the streets, what about if they weren't and were ONLY available to purchase at the dealership? That'd give players an incentive to use the dealerships. I've wanted this ever since Autoerotica turned out to be nothing more than a disappointing building & website. Great idea icon14.gif

You should definitely be able to buy cars and I believe that feature will be available in the next GTA game.

But the cars you purchase shouldn't exist on the streets. I mean, if you could steal the same cars which you can purchase... why would you purchase for a car if you can get it for free? The cars in the dealership should be EXCLUSIVE, like 20 different cars and you should be able to purchase them when you've completed half of the mainstory missions.

It could work it the cars you buy keep spawning at your safehouse, whereas cars you steal could be lost.

Hmm, maybe the game could use car registrations - similar to horse deeds. Great idea, never would have thought of it. =)

Well, well what if it was easier to earn money in GTA 5? like in San Andreas. You could earn millions by gambling. Then, you spend a few hundred thousand on a NICE car, that you could keep forever. My idea is too keep the repair feature exclusive to cars that are purchased. Stolen cars would work the same way as GTA 4. But yes, the money earning system needs an overhaul in order for this idea to work.

The high price of cars wouldn't be negative, I mean if we can buy a good car after 3 hours of playing and keep it forever, we wouldn't have tried many cars, and that's something I've always enjoyed in GTA, drive a lot of different cars so I know what car I should steal if I need a car badly and I don't have much choice.

Plus, if cars are expensive, it could act as a kind of reward when you arrive in the last third of the game (assuming we could only afford it then)

That's why I suggested realistic prices.

In Sanits Row 2 cars were too expensive. So in the next GTA they should be expensive but not too expensive.

One extreme to the other extreme, both are bad.

Some good ideas here. I have always been frustrated when I lose my nice car because a mission requires a sedan, bike, or truck, or when my nice car is destroyed. I've had some very similar thoughts in the past, some of which are hybrids of ideas I've seen here in the forums. Here are some of my thoughts.

Virtual Garages

I would like to see a virtual garage in which you can place any car/bike you're driving into one of five slots. This way, when you park/abandon a vehicle, as long as that vehicle is in one of your virtual slots it will stay in the location you parked it. If you designate a primary vehicle that could be the vehicle that always spawns in front of your safehouse.

Insurance

In another thread a poster had the idea of insurance. I think this would work well by introducing a sleezy insurance agent character. After doing a few missions for him, you could unlock the insurance ability. Once you have this perk, if you total or blow up your car and it happens to be one of the vehicles in your virtual garage, you could call your insurance agent to send a tow truck to pick up your car and your repaired car would be ready at a nearby autoshop within a couple of in-game hours for $1000 deductible. Also, if you previously customized your vehicle (which hopefully GTA V has), then your car would retain all its customized features as well.

Some others mentioned waiting a few days, and having a courtesy car but I find that too complicated. It's a game just keep it simple.

Also, I disagree with the idea of limiting any of these features to only cars legally purchased in a dealership. Since most of the vehicles you use, customize, and will want to keep will be stolen, this would not solve the frustration of losing your favorite car.

Car Dealerships

Most of the ideas here are great. It really sucks when you want to do a race and want to a fast car but can't find one. Going to a dealership and buying one is a great way to find that car, even if it costs a lot of money. Like others have said, it gives us more use for our money.

"Why would you purchase a car if you can get it for free? The cars in the dealership should be EXCLUSIVE"

I disagree with this. Maybe the exotic cars in the dealership should be rare but not exclusive. A good incentive to make you purchase the vehicle is to make it more difficult to steal it. If you steal a $250,000 car you would likely have more than a 1 star wanted level not to mention that pricey cars like that usualy have tracking devices like lojack so that the police can track it.

Other comments on dealerships.

There should be a disincentive to just buy or steal vehicles from the dealership to complete the import/export missions. Obviously one disincentive to buying could be the fact that you would lose money buying a vehicle only to sell it for less. Additionally, maybe the dealerhip wouldnt be accessible until you finish the export/import missions or maybe the vehicles you need just wouldnt be available there.

Well, for me the whole point of a dealership is to get PERMANENT ownership of nice cars. I was so upset when I destroyed Stevie's Comet and Bryce Dawkins's Infernus. With these ideas implemented in the game, there is NO WAY you will lose these cars. And we shouldn't considering how hard we would have to work to get them.

But what if you steal a really nice car earlier on in the game, (when you don't even have enough money yet to buy it), you customize it, then lose it for whatever reason?

In my opinion, a virtual garage would be a better solution to retain permanent ownership of these vehicles.
