Hi,

where i live I can't access tinypic imgur or any other website like imgur. So I was thinking if people could just directly upload photos from their computers. for example the "Post your mugshot" thread: all the pictures are replaced with "?". I would really appreciate this feature.

And fill our servers with crap and risk viruses and security? There is a reason that the attachments of IPB is disabled on this forum.

This is something that isn't going to happen

What does your position have to do with the image sharing sites?

I'm guessing it has to do with the government banning them (?)

Porn maybe? Or anti-government stuff?

Governments do weird things. sigh.gif

You have posted images with Imgur recently, how did you get away with it then?

You don't go to jail for it. You just see a screen telling you that this site has been blocked.

No offence, but something doesn't add up-the ONLY site known that has been blocked is LimeWire, as seen here on the official limewire site, where the official statement is written to express that:

ATTENTION

LimeWire is under a court order dated October 26, 2010 to stop distributing the LimeWire software. A copy of the injunction can be found here. LimeWire LLC, its directors and officers, are taking all steps to comply with the injunction. We have very recently become aware of unauthorized applications on the internet purporting to use the LimeWire name. We demand that all persons using the LimeWire software, name, or trademark in order to upload or download copyrighted works in any manner cease and desist from doing so. We further remind you that the unauthorized uploading and downloading of copyrighted works is illegal. If you have downloaded LimeWire software in the past, files on your personal computers containing private or sensitive information may have been inadvertently shared and you should use your best efforts to remove the software from your computers.

..

Sites like Photobucket.com and Youtube.com work just fine. So, can you please elaborate on how you come to the conclusion that the above sites are blocked in your country, along with a screenshot of the error given on those sites' home page and what country you are in, cause something's not adding up there? confused.gif

Youtube does not work! where did you get the information that Youtube works? It must be a sh*tty and uninformed/misinformed source. Search for a list of blocked sites in Iran, and you'll see that youtube doesn't work! There are thousands or millions of blocked sites in Iran, some of them I've never heard of, some of them are famous like: Facebook, twitter, youtube, photobucket BBC.co.uk etc... Iran is also listed as one of the enemies of the internet, next to Cuba, China, North Korea etc. Soon they will make a national version of the internet (Like in Cuba) that means goodbye GTAF! Goodbye information on new games! Goodbye wikipedia!

If you clicked on the two links I posted above-one for Photobucket and the other for youtube, you would see that those sites DO work....

Also, Can you please provide photo proof(or at least a legitimate government website that shows proof of the "supposed sites" that are supposed to be blocked, or we cannot believe you, as countries(to my knowledge) do not block sites on the internet(only the Administrator on the PC being used can block what sites are viewed and which are not?) confused.gif If you do not do at least one of these, it would mean you are lieing(not telling the truth)-No offence, but something's not adding up here.. Just curious confused.gif

As a Law Enforcement officer, I am not aware of any sites that are being blocked, besides the one I posted above for Limewire.com...?

Take this from a person that lives in Iran, i'm not lying. It's called internet censorship, but you probably won't believe me so I will give you a quote from this page:

As of 2006, Iran's SmartFilter is configured to filter local Persian-language sites, and block prominent English-language sites, such as the websites for the New York Times and Facebook

The software effectively blocks access to most pornographic sites, gay and lesbian sites, reformist political sites, news media, sites that provide tools to help users cloak their Internet identity, and other sites nebulously defined as immoral on various grounds. Iran has been accused by its critics of censoring more Internet sites than any other nation except China.

Iran has since developed its own hardware and software for filtering purposes. The architecture of the Iranian Internet is particularly conducive to widespread surveillance as all traffic from the dozens of ISPs serving households is routed through the state-controlled telecommunications infrastructure of the Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI).

The Kurdish version of Wikipedia was blocked for several months in 2006, according to Reporters Without Borders.

and

The ban has also targeted such popular social networking sites as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Youtube, Rapidshare, Wordpress, BBC, CNN, VOA, ign, 4shared, mega upload, media fire, rockstargames website as well as many other sites. Iran has recently blocked Tor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_Iran

Trust me, it's true. Iran is not a democracy like the US so internet censorship exists. If you still don't believe me, take a flight to Iran and visit youtube you will be greeted by a page saying:"According to the media surveillance department of the Islamic Republic of Iran, this site has been blocked. Please visit some of these sites instead: (stupid links)

Suction Testicle Man

radioman, you realise these sites are blocked in Iran, not Florida? There's a difference between a website being taken down (limewire.com), and network traffic being filtered (Iran).

Edit: Missed shayan's post - hopefully that's now clear. tounge.gif And to clear up our position, our servers also aren't in a position to handle the extra bandwidth involved with hosting a variety of different images. On top of that, it's somewhat pointless for purposes of avoiding censorship rules - if we're hosting content the Iranian government objects to instead, they're more likely to block us too. wink.gif

If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.

Thanks Suction Testicle Man for clearing my question up, you're right, I didn't think about the servers and the fact that the government might block GTAF.
