iPad is so stupid!

An iPad is not dumb. It is a tablet, and there are other tablets but it's still not dumb. It can be used like a pocket computer, and you're probably talking like this because all you do is play angry birds on your iPod. Well, a lot of people use the iPad for work or school or university or whatever.

Also, if you took the time to make an entire thread entitles 'iPad is so stupid!' then that means that you're affected by it somehow, it's just a product, nobody is forcing you to buy it.

He likely thinks people walking around with them looks stupid, or using them as cameras..., There was a recent shot of a guy holding one up in front of President Obama and it caused some amusement there, not sure if he was just taking pictures or video with it, but a camcorder is much smaller!

This topics name already speaks for itself.

And what comes to things like iPod and every new "smart phone", i think they're kinda stupid too.

I wouldn't waste my money on them. I only need a phone to text message and to call people.

Honestly Apple could sell a hotdog with the logo on it for $700 and people would still buy it.

Where can I get me one of these? I bet it would be delicious.

Reading this on my iPad 2. Do you own one, french tom? I love it, it's worth the 1020 $ it costs here.

And there is no way in hell this is a giant iPod.

Moved to Tech and PC chat (using my iPad 2).

Sure, Apple products may seem expensive. Specs wise, they're nothing special. Still, look at the price of all iPad competitors. Much the same price. Currently none of them offer anywhere near the user experience I get from this device. Currently there are things I do with my iPad that simply cannot be done with any Honeycomb. This alone is the reason I will not switch. This may change in future, but until the user interface is anywhere close to iOS I won't.

Over 95% of my PC activity can be done on my iPad. Combine the fact I get long battery life and lightning fast pick-up/put-down ability, a damn quick web browsing and still decent enough spec to touch up images and play fun games the £500 isn't a lot. Not when I consider that a £500 laptop won't do a lot more else for me.

So, stupid? No. In fact, it's perfect for me. Hence I own one, use one 6-7 hours a day minimum and have been happy with it since I bought it. It travels nearly everywhere with me.

Hey guys, I've got an iPad. Am I an idiot? No. Are you ignorant? Yes.

Case in point: I use my iPad mainly for work, but certainly pleasure too. I have/had a Blackberry from my job but to be honest, the amount of file editing I do and reviewing I do is difficult on a BB, and I don't want to have to also carry around a laptop that has a measly 5 hours battery life (if you get an extended £90 one).

So whats my situation now? I'm connected by e-mail, on a robust, secure device. I can do my correspondence and light/medium file editing on the same device. I can record chargable time on it as out software suppliers have made the apps available to us (I no longer have to use manual slips and record them in the office). Synchronisation is easy and it integrates everything with Exchange 2010 beautifully. Oh, and the battery life is fantastic, its compact and its instantly on when I need to tap out a quick e-mail, I don't need to boot up a whole OS for it from a mechanical drive.

And thats just the work perspective. Lets not forget the iPad is a consumer device. I'm sure someone else has covered it so I won't go into it.

If im not mistaken, they made the 1st touchscreen phone. They have the patent.

lol did you pull that outta your ass? im pretty sure you're far off with that one although they use their own technology for touchscreens but nothin less or nothing more and i agree the ipad is retarded lol, tablet computers have existed for ages and as soon as the itampon came out everyone wants one and thinks apple invented the tablet computer and its the best thing since being born.

before anyone bitches at me that im a windows fanboy.. i actually ordered an imac the other day for using logic pro.

For some decades, I'd been following Apple because the big war as anyone knows is how Apple battled Homebrew to the big leagues against ALL ODDS to be where they are now, yet people lose sight of that fact and want to knock them back down, what they have to do is step back and say, the Underdog won here, guys!

Apple fought for a user HOME technology with high ideals, it's that that made them popular, not constantly or always true, but it puts bigger corporations to shame in many respects

@Mark&bread: You list the advantages the iPad has over a phone, but it's not really competing with phones. If you could have the exact same device, but running Windows 7 instead, why wouldn't you?

I used to think the iPad had no purpose, till I realized I owned a Nano, a desktop, and didn't have a laptop that could do what my phone did. Thank you Apple for solving MY problems <3

Ronny, or anyone who has one, do you feel the stares upon you hauling them around or using them? I think they really still have novelty factor

I sometimes feel the stares yeah, but I rarely use it to show off in public (which, lets face it, a lot of people do). I use mine if I'm on a train on any journey longer than 30 mins where I might be able to do some work, or if I have to do work that is unavoidably urgent.

People look though and I just think what the big deal is - most of these guys are on their e-readers and iPhones watching or listening to sh*t and they scoff at me because I'm using something a bit bigger. Talk about hypocritical.

They're not stupid. That's the wrong word. Pointless, yes, but many things in life are pointless. They're great fun, so they don't need to have a defined purpose.

I did not do such a thing. It is not a replacement at all for a phone. The sheer size of it is testament to that. I own an iPhone as well. Under very few circumstances do to two overlap in functionality for me, despite running the same OS.

It is far more of a laptop replacement for me. Rather than booting something up that runs Windows 7, whilst it may be a lot more powerful, I prefer to just pick up and put down my iPad in the same way someone would pick up and put down a book or a magazine. Whilst I'm out and about or lounging about at home, the sheer instantaneousness of it wins me over every time. Sod having a laptop plugged in chugging away by my sofa, or having to precariously hold a laptop when on a commuter train. A tablet style device would win every time. Yes, I could do similar things with my phone, but such a tiny screen becomes tiresome.

iPads and their competitors aren't for everyone, even I know that. Still, trying to argue with someone who relies on theirs on a daily basis that the device is useless seems kinda...not retarded, just more of a redundant discussion.

For that matter, why should I try to justify it? I don't care whether you use a tablet. I do and love it.

I would not buy a pad, but for some people it has great functionality like mentioned just above.

Because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean you should dislike it so.

The only reason that matters to buy an iPad, or anything else, is because; it's your money do with it what you will.

The people that say 'give me a list of reasons to buy <insert product here>,' are the people that have thought about getting it themselves but for whatever reason don't yet they still think about.

I bought an iPad2. Why? Because I wanted it. If you need more justification that then ask yourself this; why did you buy a game console or a smartphone over a feature/basic cell phone or big ass tv or a special limited edition pair of sneaker/shoes or anything else? Why did you buy the things that when it comes right down to it that you don't really need?

I think it's good to ask, it's the premise of YouTube product reviews as well as the ePinions web site. Getting multiple REAL people feed back can lead to some debates of a products merits of course! No harm, no foul.

Heard a joke even this week where a comic asked on TV about the last time anyone saw a Walkman being used. Walkman is a Sony cassette portable, originally, but it's come to mean just about any portable listening device outside of an MP3 player or Zune, etc.

I'm not bashing the idea of using a tablet over a laptop, even though it's not something I would ever use. It's just that for me, I would rather wait that extra 60 seconds to let my device boot, and have a full version of Windows sitting right in front of me.

Sure, there IS a place tablets with phone OSes and hardware in the market. I just find it retarded that they would charge people the same amount of money for something that should be about 1/2 the price. I would have no problem with the iPad if it were $250. At that price it might be a good value compared to other devices.

I certainly wouldn't complain if someone gave me an iPad, preferably a 3G model. Unfortunately I don't have the money to spend on something that I probably wouldn't use very often when I have a desktop, laptop, BlackBerry and iPod Touch. Apple products definetely have something unique about them. Sure they can easily be beaten in spec and price, but Apple products are iconic, as well as usually having good build quality.

You're paying mainly for the miniaturization. Nobody else packs the tech of the iPad into such a nice little package.

Sure. I get it. There are many things that are so wrong with Apple's business practices. Not allowing flash? No SD card slots? Strict rules in the appstore? That's bullsh*t. But they're doing something right - now that I have disposable income, I find myself making regular purchases via iTunes. And I know I could easily jailbreak... I actually choose not to.

I recently read this story:

http://toucharcade.com/2011/07/27/ea-ceo-s...games-industry/

...which certainly leads to some raised eyebrows.

To put this out there - yes, if I had a device exactly like my iPad2 that ran windows 7, I'd prefer it. And that goes for the upcoming iPad 3 as well - that retina screen is going to be the death knell for print media. The technology alone - despite how awesome, functional, and intuitive iOS is - is f*cking incredible. You can't find comparable technology for a lower price.

Onlive certainly is exciting, especially if the CEO is telling the truth about their recent bandwidth breakthroughs. Cloud computing could, eventually, mean we're carrying around direct and fully functional access to our home computers. Wouldn't that be awesome?

@Anyone who owns an iPad -Would you use it for taking notes in class? Could it replace a laptop in that sense? I own an iPhone so I'm used to typing on a touch screen already. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that due to the difference in screen size, learning how to type on an iPhone wouldn't help a bit with typing on the iPad, it would be easier to just use a standard keyboard that you're used to. Once again, this isn't even bashing, it's just that typing on a small touchscreen is one thing, but with a larger screen, I'd rather have an actual keyboard where I can feel the keys.

For class I would much rather have a laptop than a tablet, maybe a convertible tablet. Would just seem much simpler to have your portable device and PC all-in-one, and without the worry of scratching the screen.

But some value fanciness over utility, so it's up to you.

You can get a bluetooth keyboard for the ipad should you wish.

The HP slate shows promise, but at half the battery life on the high end model, you've got to ask yourself what exactly you want this thing for. I think one of the greatest strengths of the ipad - as a portable computer - is the long-as-hell battery life.

I do think a precise pen would be a HUGE addition to the iPad, though.

Does it have USB ports? I just got a Gear Head USB mini KB with a mouse pad on it as well, so it's traditional data entry, but on a small size scale

You can get a usb attachment for cameras that useful with jailbreaking. But it sorta goes against the point, really.

As most of you know I'm a pretty big anti-apple guy ,but there is a place for the iPad I think. I'm actually typing this on one right now. That's not to say there aren't better options out there depending on what you want to do, but for what it does it works great.

How did i know you would suggest a HP? Nah don't worry, i have a bit of a love affair with Samsung myself.

The Ipad is the best pad on the market, great battery, great apps, and works great with itunes.
